Reliable Adam Shefter "Crabtree Saga Ends Today"
The usually reliable Adam Shefter of ESPN was quoted saying that the Michael Crabtree saga will end today and he will be a 49er by Midnight tonight. I wasn't sure to do a fanpost or fanshot regarding this. I didn't want this new and "important" information to be caught up in a thread with 200 comments

For now I’ll just move this to the front page. Very interesting info worthy of pulling out, but maybe not as it’s own FanPost yet. Thanks for getting this posted.

No Problem
I have a lot of respect for Shefter as an NFL insider. He usually knows what he is talking about, this is why i take this new bit of information more seriously then i would have in another circumstance

ill believe it when i see it...
but is it safe to say that if nothing happens during this visit, his chances of playing this year/being a 49er are next to none?
by Rep the Bay on Oct 6, 2009 1:09 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
That Would Make Sence
But this is Crabtree’s final chance to save face and actually get a nice amount of money up front. Because if he were to re-enter the draft or be traded the up front money would be about 1/8 of what the 49ers are offering. It appears to be a move on Crabtree’s part not the 49ers.

Words can not describe my excitement!
This could mean a couple things (if true)
-That Crabtree finally came to his senses
-Crabtree saw how well we played and decided to change his mind and come to SF
-Deon finally gave him some advice to come over
-OR we are going to give him more money/ we promised to at least talk about it.
But I’m still skeptical, and who wouldnt be? How long have they been talking? Yeah…

They Apparently Haven't Had Any Conversations
since OTA’s. The meeting today will be the first in a long long long time

Congratulations Niners fans.
I hope it was Crabtree who relented and not the other way around. I wouldn’t mind you guys having more money tied into another player, but I really hate when players hold out unreasonably.

This feels pretty good
We always knew that momentum carries past possessions on the field, and it was a big reason why alot of us felt Nolan had to go.
Now that we’ve turned around our losing “fortunes”, we’re gonna start seeing alot of these types of situations start ending up in the Niners favor, which in turn will help foster an even better environment for winning, and will hopefully snowball into a winning legacy for years to come.
As far as Mr. Crabtree, if he’s ready to play, I’m ready to root for him. If he can hook up with Shaun Hill, he can tap into a great fanbase and start building a legacy for himself.
49er 'til I die! (if they don't kill me first)

Logically What Shefter Is Reporting Is True
Each side knows where the other stands and it won’t take 3 or 4 days to negotiate a contract if both sides want one done. If a deal is to get done it makes sense that it happens sooner rather then later. Later today or early tomorrow is when we should hear something. I am at work right now but i will keep my eye open for more news when it does break

not necessarily… that article written by the eagles executive pointed out a lot of details that would need to be negotiated in terms of years, dollars, escalators, etc – they haven’t had any real negotiations yet so this could take a while
A hearty thank you to Rich Aurilia for all the good memories, and to the Niners for finally getting the uni's (mostly) right.

KNBR is reporting that they all met today and the meeting “went well” !!!
Then they are now saying that just Parker and Paraag arte in a second meeting ,to iron out the details !
I hope Sheftner is correct and he is a Niner by midnight tonight and we have a lovefest of a press conference tomorrow !

Tshirt
If this works out I’d like to take credit for the reverse jinx. I bought the tshirt someone was hawking last week (We don’t have Crabs, but at least we still have VD!). It could turn into a big fat waste of money, but it’s totally worth it if Crabtree signs.

ESPN Reporting a meeting took place
By Michael Smith
ESPN
Michael Crabtree and his agent, Eugene Parker, met with San Francisco 49ers front office personnel for an hour Tuesday in the Bay area, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.
Sources said Crabtree and Parker met with VP of football operations Paraag Marathe, owner Jed York and GM Scot McCloughan.
Indications are that Crabtree wants to play football for the 49ers this season, but there was no word on what kind of progress, if any, was made on a possible contract.
The two sides had gone almost three weeks without talking.
The 49ers have until Nov. 17 to sign Crabtree and have him play this season.
Michael Smith is a reporter for ESPN.

correction
Maiocco’s Twitter said:
I know for a fact Jed York is no longer at meeting. Might be nuts-and-bolts time with Marathe and Parker.
So that doesn’t necessarily mean the meeting is still going on.

negotiations
The thing I wonder is that I don’t think anybody actually knows where this meeting is taking place. I mean I guess somebody could have leaked info that it’s still going on, but who knows. It’ll be like selecting a new pope. Where’s the white smoke?!?!?!

New Thread
Since we’ve been working with a FanShot much of today, I put up a post to take us into the night. Two days ago I wanted to cut down on this stuff. Now I’m posting about it more than ever. I feel dirty!
by Fooch on Oct 6, 2009 4:06 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Dirty? No!!!
This is huge. If we can get Crabtree signed today he can practice tomorrow and play against the Texans while making an impact in the 2nd half of the season. He would become our best and most talented WR right away
