I'm not shocked by this, but still disappointed. 2.5 sacks, 8 tackles and an INT returned for a TD not enough...BOO

I knew it

Bamm-Bamm had such an awesome game and he probably deserved it but I knew they’d give it to Sharper because of the 99 yard pick-six.

So sad

Sharper did great, but we will see just how good Willis is this Sunday. Im thinking another 2 sacks and 9 takles. Maybe just maybe another INT.

nothing against sharper, but willis was robbed. guess he’ll just have to do better next week. yeesh.

by druncan on Oct 6, 2009 5:28 PM PDT reply actions

That was a tough call

What’s more important, 2.5 sacks or another INT? That’s what it came down to really. I think I would’ve given it to Sharper also.

Willis stats: 8 tackles, INT for 6, 2.5 sacks

Sharper stats: 9 tackles, INT for 6, 2nd INT

by hudd07 on Oct 6, 2009 5:38 PM PDT reply actions

good point.

Allen’s stats: 7 Tackles, 4.5 sacks, forced fumble, and a safety.

Maybe turnovers rule the day but Allen did have one heckuva stat line.

The Rams O-line made him look good

They were horrible in last night’s game.

Actually...

Willis is really good.

I think Patrick Willis has broken thru!!

I believe he should be an early candidate for Defensive Player of the Year. He is a tackling machine, he is fast sideline to sideline, he sniffs out plays and blows them up, and he makes the players around him better. What else can you want out of a linebacker? He snuffs out the run, he can sack the QB, and he is really good at sniffing out the screens and reverses and blows them up too. IMHO he is the best inside linebacker in the NFC. Probowler from his rookie season. He is a natural. He is just born to play the position. Nolan didn’t do much right, but drafting Willis was awesome. The guy is just a machine. I watch him whenever he is on the field, because I know he is going to do something great at some point in the game, usually several times a game.

Another year, another chance to hope for the team !!

I thought Sharper would get it over Bam Bam becaues of the 99 INT return, that tends to wow voters.

But then I thought Allen would get it because he just looked so dominant, even to the casual fan, and he did it on a night where everyone was watching.

by LantermanC on Oct 6, 2009 8:33 PM PDT up reply actions

Yep, i’m surprised Jared Allen didn’t get the nod for Defensive Player. 4.5 sacks is pretty damn good, but was it that the O-line for the packers was THAT bad?

Niners get no respect

especially this week. But thats okay because i like being under the radar. I think in NFL rankings we should be ranked higher then the vikings. It took a miracle play for them to beat us in there house in there home opening.

No honorable mention of Coach Singletary OR Patrick Willis !!

This East Coast Bias thing has me Steaming MAD! It’s like the Niners dont even exist. The only team out west that is getting any love is the Broncos. This is Bullshite !!

Another year, another chance to hope for the team !!

Thank goodness no one does

Not putting Bam Bam on the list would make him a MORON. In fact not mentioning Coach Sing makes him a double moron.

Another year, another chance to hope for the team !!

I really could care less what King thinks

I care more about other niners fans and the team’s performance than how we are perceived. It would take some big wins to be veiwed as more than the class of a crappy division.

both Sharper and Allen played against better teams so i can see why Willis didn’t get DPotW

by Manic Depressive on Oct 6, 2009 6:07 PM PDT reply actions

I'm happy for you, Darren

and Ima let you finish, but Willis had the best game of all time.

Manic Is Right

Allen was playing against the Packers and Sharper against the Jets while Willis was going up against the god awful St. Louis Rams. But, and it is a huge but, Patrick Willis absolutely destroyed and dominated the Rams offense, and they are still an NFL team. He was playing like a man possessed.

But i don’t think it’s the 49ers not getting any respect. I think it is the fact that the 49ers defense as whole completely dominated the Rams. That Lawson, Franklin, Spikes, Clements and Goldson absolutely dominated the Rams offense too. It wasn’t a one man show like it was with Allen’s 4.5 sacks or Sharper’s two pics.

Wadda rip !!

First he gets totally Dis’s by Peter King earlier in the day by not even getting an honorable mention for possible Defensive Player of the Year, and now this ???

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/peter_king/10/06/mail/index.html

I am outraged !! I hope Bam Bam just destroys the entire Falcons Offense !!

Another year, another chance to hope for the team !!

We all have a right to be disappointed

It’s not that Sharper is unworthy. It’s the overall lack of respect since week one when we beat the defending conference champs in their stadium (where they went 8-2 last season). The quarter awards that I’ve read don’t include Sing as a COY candidate or Willis as DPOY candidate, now it’s like no one east of the Rockies is aware of the game Willis played and has been playing.

I’m ticked that the Ravens are receiving so much (deserved) attention for the B.S. roughing the QB calls on Brady yet no one nationally mentioned that we got ripped off with the same call one week earlier vs Favre. Why do I expect we’ll get at least one of those when we go to Indy? I know we’re not one of the leagues current golden boys but a little acknowledgment that we’re playing some good football and a top 12 team would be nice.

You gotta bring ass to get ass.

I Am Okay

with the 49ers not getting respect on the national stage. They will know about this team really really soon, especially the defense, which could be the best in the entire NFL. If the 49ers continue to do their thing the national media will have no decision but to start respecting them. Regarding Peter King not even mentioning Patrick Willis as defensive player of the year, well i have one thing to say about that. He has never given the 49ers their just dessert. If i am not mistaken he has us rated at #14 while most other national outlets have the 49ers in the top 10-12.

Reason enough for me to discount anything else the man writes

Either he is a Niner Hater, or just aloof about anything west of the Mississippi. Either way, I am very un-impressed by Mr. King at this point.

Another year, another chance to hope for the team !!

by FaStRmAn on Oct 6, 2009 8:24 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree, lack of respect is getting a bit ridiculous.

I believe ESPN had you 12th in the power rankings! 12th! Your only loss is to a miracle play against a top 3 team. You beat both of your division contending ‘rivals’, and soundly demolished the division bottom feeder. Except for a miracle play, the 9ers could not be any more impressive in my book.

Ravens Calls

The hand to helmet roughing the passer flag has been called that way all season. The Vikings fans complained when it was called on a shot to Shaun Hill.

If you ask me the Ravens defense was just being a bunch of whining {site decorum}. They blew that game more than the Pats won. I big part of it was spending the entire 2nd half arguing with the zebras instead of playing the game.

by bignerd on Oct 6, 2009 8:49 PM PDT up reply actions

When a QB turns to the ref and begs for a flag

After a rushing LB falls near his legs, that’s weak. Worse than Favre holding his knee after the Smith hit brought the flag. If it’s a penalty it should be obvious and the flag comes out without begging or dramatics from a player. Both those QBs got a bad call due to a sympathetic ref babying them. Ravens had good reason to be upset as did we two weeks ago.

You gotta bring ass to get ass.

by SpurredOn on Oct 7, 2009 1:23 AM PDT up reply actions

What's worse is the taunting penalty or should I say excessive celebrating that was called against the niners

And that dopey move Jared Allen makes afteer he gets to the QB

It boils down to Willis playing the Rams and Sharper playing the undefeated Jets.

Although Willis played a veteran and Sharper played a rookie. But I guess Rex Ryan has a lot of uproar about the J-e-t-s Jets. Now if Willis were to have a similar game against the Colts he’d be up for defensive player of the year!

Its all about the team you play

If P Willis got this against the “elite” teams. He would be all over ESPN this week. With the Rams you are suppose to get these stats lol.

Revenge is a dish best served in the playoffs!
