More Deion WR Shenanigans: Top Prospect Dez Bryant Declared Ineligible

Well, signing Michael Crabtree looks really good right now! For those of you who were hoping to select Oklahoma State WR Dez Bryant in the draft this year to fill the Niners need at WR (before Crabtree signed obviously), his stock just took a big hit.

Appparently Bryant visited Deion's house and worked out with him during the offseason and then lied to the NCAA about any of it happening. Bryant will now make an appeal to the NCAA and tell them the true story in hopes that they will reinstate him. From the story:

The NCAA interviewed Bryant before the season and also on Sept. 11, the day before a game against Houston, asking if he had visited Sanders' home, if he had worked out with Sanders and also if he had had any interaction with agents.

Bryant told them no to all questions. Bryant is expected to say that he wasn't sure if it was a violation to visit with Sanders. Bryant has been told he has been suspended because he lied about the answers to the first two questions.

In a prepared statement, the school released the following comment from Bryant: "I made a mistake by not being entirely truthful when meeting with the NCAA. I sincerely regret my mistake and apologize to my teammates, coaches, OSU fans and the NCAA.

I'll just say I'm extremely happy that we finally got Crabtree on the team. Now we can look forward to seeing this at Candlestick:

So what rule was he breaking? Ineligible from playing college football or entering the draft?

Deion cares about Deion. He was so fast because he didn’t have to carry around the weight of a conscience. Hopefully this will help people to become wise and shun him.

BLING BLING

Question, what does Deion have to do with decisions that players make?

Absolutlely nothing, his parents needed to raise him to be more responsible is all I can take from it. If he thought he could sneak and talk with an agent than he’s dumb. Wait until the season is over and plenty of agents will be on his nats like gnats!

This is stupid, why can't college players be around pro athletes?

That’s dumb. I can understand agents but Deion is not an agent, as a matter of fact he isn’t a pro football player. Won’t hurt his draft stock the Cowboys will be picking top 15!

He is allowed to be around Deion

The problem is that Dez lied about seeing Deion, and the NCAA doesn’t take too keenly to being lied to. And why would they ask? Well, they don’t want Deion providing him any improper benefits. Apparently, they had lunch, but Dez paid for his meal, so that’s on the up and up.

But if Dez had just said he met with him, it’d had been all cool. But he lied, so now he’s in trouble.

If it was on the up and up

Why would he lie?

Not 19 year olds with a potential multi-million dollar contract

He told the truth about some of the stuff, but withheld some info. Either he’s a pathological liar (and there are a multitude of other reasons not to draft him) or he lied about it for a reason (and he was really doing something he thought was wrong and didn’t want to be caught).

You have been DFiBrillated.

Yes even 19 year olds with a potential multi-million dollar contract lie about dumber stuff that than

Just because they’re skilled at football and have potential for a huge pay day doesn’t make them any smarter than your average 19 year old. If anything there’s more pressure on them not to mess up which could make them nervous and lie about little stuff.

Don't sweat it. I'm illiterate.

That's the thing the NCAA is always out of line. I understand not wanting players to accept financial assistance

Go after the agents for a change, I know that wouldn’t be the NCAA, but how much money do these guys make off of the players just to screw their teams over if they aren’t BCS appreciated. The NC-double (site decorum) is full of (site decorum).

Who made the NCAA the lie police? Seriously, they can’t punish USC one iota when freaking Yahoo Sports conducted the entire investigation, bagged the evidence and got signed confusions but they are going to suspend a kid for lying about a chat with Deion Sanders. What was their first clue, the hot dog cooker sitting in is his dorm room?

I can't stand the NCAA and their ridiculous actions.

What happened to the coach in Michigan

I’ve lost all respect for them. They used to police the college game, now they just work to protect various interests.

Well...

If he lied about being at Deion’s house whose to say he isn’t going to lie about meeting with agents. Whose to say Parker wasn’t over there kicking it at Deion’s house watching their “workout”.

Don't sweat it. I'm illiterate.

This.

A lie opens up the door to a whole new world of potential lies.

Also...

Maybe this will knock him into the second round, where I wouldn’t mind drafting him ;)

by RobbieS on Oct 7, 2009 7:06 PM PDT reply actions

That's fine...

And the Boys won’t take him if they’re drafting too early…

You think they could possibly be worse than

Browns, Rams, Chiefs, Panthers, Redskins, Raiders, Buccs, Lions, Seahawks and Cardinals? I think they’ll be 10-15 in the draft next season and are in desperate need of a wideout.

They'll take Eric Berry instead ;-)

There’ll be plenty of talented guys coming out next season because of the cap issues. There’ll be other options. And we’re allowed to hope, no?

NCAA football is BIG business

The fact that college players get nothing more than a free scholarship is a joke. The top coaches make millions of dollars every year and the top players can’t even except a free pair of shoes. The hypocrisy of it all makes me sick.

Don't trust this guy. He lies.

I still wish him the best, though.

What's Deion up to ??

Deion knew better. Now the kid may not have a bright future. He’ll have to work very hard to restore what Deion screwed up ! Mind your own Business, DUDE !!!

by LASVEGASNINER on Oct 8, 2009 5:14 AM PDT reply actions

Deion knew better.

Deion’s never followed the rules. Look where it’s got him. I wouldn’t be surprised if Deion is the source of the tampering charges with Crabby.

You have been DFiBrillated.

by Dubs fan in Boston on Oct 8, 2009 2:52 PM PDT up reply actions

Deion is not at fault here.

The kid should have told the truth and the NCAA maybe shouldn’t have grilled him as if it were a trial. That coach in Michigan didn’t have anything happen and he told a lie publicly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
