this game doesn't really change the playoff picture ...
I mean, if you were counting on us to win this game to make the playoffs, then you should have already been saying “so long playoffs.”
What a wrote last week still stands. We can afford to lose one more game, so long as it isn’t to the Cardinals.
the defense did a great job today
holding them to under 21 until this point in the game. LOLfense failed us once again and turnovers killed
A hearty thank you to Rich Aurilia for all the good memories, and to the Niners for finally getting the uni's (mostly) right.
Sad. Just plain sad.

i’m disappointed, but honestly I didn’t even expect us to be in that game. Great game by the D, Alex looked pretty good. play calling remains atrocious.

Don’t think play calling was that bad. But yeah at least we hanged with them all the way to the end without Staley and Clements so im impressed. We found out that Smith has become good and our offense looks much better with him running it

so many problem dropped passes from bruce. bad offensive line.
bad running. missed opportunities. aging secondary. lack of speed. bad special teams (brandon jones). bad clock management
3 man rush when we have 5 lineman shouldn't have resulted in a sack
and knocked us out of fg range. and a rock head unsportsman like penalty gave them good field position late in the first half
Its disappointing
Because the way we lost, at least a blow out was expected, keep losing close games and it will kill the teams morale. Hell look at the morale of this forum now.
We got the Titan's next week
Hopefully they don’t wake up
Hey, remember that one time when we were arguing and I was wrong? Yeah, me either.
Let's the Overreacting Begin...
Well, I was expecting another Atlanta game, but we held Manning to 0 TDs and 3 sacks.
Yeah yeah moral victories suck, but like the Texans game I see something to build on here. The Colts were more disciplined and won the TO battle. That’s what cost the game.
On another note, who we rooting for? Cardinals to beat the Panthers or Panthers to beat the Cards?
Is this really a moral victory?
Sure the first half was good, but doing nothing in the second. Not much victory there.
Well, if Jimmy Raye wasn’t our coordinator I would say so. Our depleted OLine did give critical sacks, but overall didn’t seem like the deer-in-the-headlights OLine like we have seen before. Befuddling that we didn’t go into the spread at all that last series. Still, I think our turnovers that killed some good drives hurt the most. Offensive playcalling in the 2nd Half and terrible KR/PR hurt as well.
Until Jimmy Raye shows he can do more than just sit on his hands and passively call the offense with the lead I will only be so much as cautiously optimistic the Niners can go .500
by Badly Browned on Nov 1, 2009 1:36 PM PST up reply actions
There goes the myth about airing the ball out
Passed twice as much as ran. Couldn’t sustain drives long enough without a mentionable run.
Field position killed them in the game. Produced 1st downs but hard to score points when every position starts at the 10 yard line.
game plan isn't...
just “pass more”…it’s when to pass…
by (Florida) Danny Tuccitto on Nov 1, 2009 1:21 PM PST up reply actions
Cannot throw 6 straight outs to Crabtree per drive to produce a touchdown. Anyone notice the difference between the Texan game? Indy’s Cover 2 defense, takes away all the seam passes down the middle of the field which accounts for most the 49ers deep passes. The 49ers had to run the ball cause available passing routes were limited.
Didn't we run the ball?
Did we win?
And there’s no need to be patronizing. I never advocated:
…6 straight outs to Crabtree per drive…
I was just pointing out that the Crabtree out route was the only pass play that worked.
Not an attack on you. The team didn’t really run the ball. Beginning the 4th Qtr the offense had run the ball 18 times and passed 27 times. The 4th Qtr was mostly passing, so you can imagine that final stat is going to look.
Mmm . . . for 49ers standard the run wasn’t getting stuffed. It was a mixed bag of results. There were a few drives where the run didn’t work but also a few were the run was working. They needed both run and pass to score points. The team passed the ball the entire 4th Qtr and nothing happened.
Yes
But you know they were expecting us to pass in the 4th because we were behind.
We put together a string of passes at the end of the 1st half that resulted in a touchdown. We should have come out throwing in the second half, IMHO.
Exactly...
…pointing to the fact that we passed twice as many times as we ran is a little misleading.
Yeah right we threw waaaaay tooo much
It created two turnovers
"Optimist Prime"
"Child Please" -Ochocinco
Except for one great run by Gore
Same old 2 yrd running game… nothing up the middle and no bounce to the outside…
Right
We couldn’t run the ball today. The pass was working and opening up the run.
We should have passed more.
He had a few 5 yd runs and not all were two yards
We should have ran gore 7-10 more times
"Optimist Prime"
"Child Please" -Ochocinco
We started the second half "balanced"...
…and weren’t particularly successful. We didn’t get pass happy until the fourth quarter after the Colts went ahead. That last quarter is why we had so many more passes than runs.
3rd quarter...
6 runs, 5 passes. The main reason we had more passes than runs in the first half was because of that six-play scoring drive — all them passes — to end the 2nd quarter. I really think you’re drawing the wrong conclusion from these stats. When we passed, we had success. When we strove for balance, we stalled.
Like I already said...
…“We didn’t get pass happy until the fourth quarter after the Colts went ahead.” And even then, we drove from our own 21 all the way to the Colts’ 30 — primarily through passing — on our first possession of the fourth.
I really think the problem isn’t our ratio of passes to runs, which can mislead for the reasons we’ve just discussed. It’s the timing and allocation. We should be passing more at the start of the game, when high-risk high-reward play calling makes sense, then running at the end when low-risk calls that eat up time are optimal. To use an analogy from Advanced NFL Stats, it’s like portfolio investing.
Great Game Niner Fans
that was VERY close….You kept Manning from throwing a TD. Thanks to Addai we won that one. Good game!
Bob Sanders does not play Hide-and-Seek, He plays HIDE and PRAY-HE-DOES-NOT FIND-YOU!
Was it the defense that let us down?
Or Jimmy Raye’s gameplan?
I think it was the defense that let us down late, allowing the Colts to easily march down the field and kill the clock. Fuck Dallas Clark, by the way. Overall though, I can’t blame the game on the defense, they held Petyon Manning to 0 TD passes and the Colts to just 18 points (and he was sacked 3 times). The defense had to come up big at the end, but couldn’t.
Overall, the offense partially stunk and the O-Line let Smith get sacked when it mattered most. However, Barry Sims did a fantastic job against Dwight Freeney despite allowing a sack. I just think it came down to the Colts being the better team.
+1
Fuck Dallas Clark with a splintery 2 × 4

I think the defense just fine
Cannot be blamed for only giving up 18 points to the Colts, giving them four 3 and outs, sacking Manning better than most teams in the league.
If you want to blame a unit, blame the punt return . . . again. Constantly that unit gave up good field position. When the Colts punter kicks the ball 65 yards and the 49ers get a measly 8 yard return is an epic fucking fail.
I agree
the defense did a fine job, I’m just saying they couldn’t come up big at the end because the Colts are the better team, and know how to finish off an opponent.
Brandon Jones making a catch at the 5-yard line on a punt return is ridiculous, so I think I tend to agree that the punt return unit can go straight to hell.

I'd like to see the braintrust logic
in cutting Rossum. Who suggested what, who pulled the trigger. It’s one thing if you’ve got a plan, but the one guy who’s a real returner still on the roster, Spurlock, doesn’t see the field as a returner. Battle was a fail. Robinson tries but he’s running in slo mo, you don’t want to put a precious d-back to return where he could get hurt, especially in a game against the Colts. Jones, let’s face it, doesn’t know what he’s doing back there.
Either put Spurlock back there to return, or cut him and get someone who can return.

you wanted more running?
or did you want Alex Smith to be in the shotgun every time 49ers wanted to pass?

More real passes
Less horizontal passes vs one of the fastest D’s in the NFL. I would have rather seen Gore get more runs up the middle than those little dump passes that were being called.

Bad calls again as well
Missed holding on Willis, phantom hold on Baas
Hey, remember that one time when we were arguing and I was wrong? Yeah, me either.
Under normal circumstances I’d call this a moral victory. But to be honest, I don’t expect Jimmy Raye or anyone on this team to realize the obvious and make changes to their gameplan. I have a sickening feeling that it’s gonna be run-run-pass for the rest of the season. As great as Singletary seems to be, the coaching looks like it will keep this team out of the playoffs

To keep the division close. Arizona’s should be favored in the majority of the rest of their games this year.
Took a trick play
flea flicker for them to beat us. painful loss. Defense held up their end of the bargain. Can we get allen rossum back from the boys? QB play was good. O-line did a great job absent Staley. There’s always next week/month/year/decade

was cutting Allen Rossum.
To illustrate that point, recall Brandon Jones fielding a punt inside the 5-yard line.

Easily the dumbest move
Marvel Smith signing is now a distant second. Potentially the punt return has cost the 49ers two wins.
you are entitled to your opinion
but thinking that drafting Michael Crabtree (who has lead our WRs in receiving in the 2 games he’s been in) is a worse transaction than cutting Allen Rossum is worth of a “wtf”

Overall, not too upset
The 49ers played well but just couldn’t beat a very good Indy team at home. It looked like 49ers football again, like the 1st month of the season. If they continue to play like that the team will win the next 4 out of 5 games.
Rossum getting cut continues to kill the the team.
It doesn't really, we need to at least be consitent with whom our punt returner is.
We also made some dumb ass play calling on defense, but ti was overshadowed by the defense playing great and Manning being off a tad

the dumb thing at the end of the half
was excessively celebrating in the end zone after VD’s TD.
that was dumb, Josh Morgan (and the rest of the team showboating) should’ve realized that the Colts and field position equals points allowed.
by Andrew Davidson on Nov 1, 2009 1:45 PM PST up reply actions
Yep
Morgan continues to make a bonehead play each game.
ATL – slowing up on a TD run.
HOU – was the 12 man on the field which Alex converted to a delay penalty.
IND – the celebration penalty was atrocious. Basically gave the Colts a cheap 3 points before half. I was yelling at my TV the second he joined VD.
in Morgan's defense
Chilo Rachal could’ve just as easily been flagged instead of Morgan. He was doing the same thing, “snapping photos” of VD.
but yeah, Morgan has been rather boneheaded as of late.

by FiveAlarmFreddy on Nov 1, 2009 2:13 PM PST up reply actions
whatever...
excessive celebration is a BS call no matter what, this is a game of emotion and skill, i mean seriously i scream at the TV in my home… i couldnt imagine the emotion i had if i was really on the field, the No-Fun-League is wrong on their stance
wrong or not
rules are rules and players know the rules. when you break a rule, regardless of how dumb it is, you still get penalized. the fact that excessive celebration is 15-yards is dumb, considering holding penalties are only 10-yards. however, players need to realize committing those penalties hurt their teams and shouldn’t excessively celebrate.
Have you watched any CFL games? They are allowed to have team celebrations in the end zone, and it does not make the game any better. In fact, it’s quite ridiculous to watch.
by Andrew Davidson on Nov 1, 2009 2:02 PM PST up reply actions
Andrew
I love watching the CFL, I think I told you this before even though you do not like the CFL. Anyways… I agree rules are rules; I just dislike how the NFL is becoming more and more pansy, anyone who makes eye contact with Tom Brady gets a flag.
while the CFL isn't terrible
the excessive celebrations in the end zones don’t make the sport any more enjoyable. wasn’t trying to knock the CFL, just the dumb team celebrations in the end zone.
but the refs do need more consistency, that’s for sure. you are totally right about the Tom Brady flag.

The Worst Call of the Game
Was when the Colts ran that hurry up play and got a cheap 1st down. Addai came out of the game so the officials by rule are suppose to give the 49ers time to substitute their own players. The 49ers defense got screwed over on that play.

So who here thinks that maybe
we won’t make the playoffs again…. and we should start looking at other coaches? mike may be here for a while, but really after another 7-9 season and all these great coaches that aren’t coaching (cowher, shannahan, gruden) do you really need to have the mike singletary experiment last another year at the risk of wasting away the franchise? he is a great interview and the whole nutcracker drill is really nice and all that, but if they don’t produce wins, and lets face it, they aren’t, then maybe it’s time to go in another direction. Just saying
Possibly
Shannahan or Fisher (if the Titans will allow him to leave) I think would best match with the offense weaps we have, and yes we have them cept they aint being used right
Other coaches yes, but not a head coach.
We need a new OL coach and a new OC (That pains me to say that because I think that some of Alex’s issues are due to just that, as the Skins QB’s problems have been as well). I think that Mike can fire the guys up and is a perfect guy to lead this young team.
by ChesapeakeBay9er on Nov 1, 2009 1:53 PM PST up reply actions
Would Mike Shanahan bring an offensive line that could run block? Because that would be nice.
GROUGTHINK ALERT
The first Chester Arthur fanboy ever.
Wherever Mike Shannahan go's he brings a rushing game
His zone blocking schemes are unequalled in the NFL. Look at his Denver teams. Hes made nobodys into 1,000 yard rushers. Gore would be unstoppable in a Shannahan offense. But i dont see it happening.
Mike Holmgren on the otherhand has expressed interest in joining the 49ers maybe in the frost office after hes done coaching in Seattle. I would be ecstatic about having Holmgren being the HC or GM or anything between. I dont see any of this happening though.
Norv Turner might get fired if SD doesnt get far in the playoffs too. The 49ers would be stupid to not make him the OC again if hes available. This i see as a possiblity.
I forgot about
Holmgren.
Any decision making spot on the team he had would help the 49ers tremendously. Plus he is part of the Walsh era, so that would be cool to bring back full circle.
Shanny was OC under Seifert right?
So indirectly a Walsh bloodline.
by ChesapeakeBay9er on Nov 1, 2009 2:12 PM PST up reply actions
the Modern NFL on today
owes everything to the Walsh bloodline imho
Is it just me watching the stats or did we do ok rushing?
I mean we had Gore with an AVG or @7 and Coffee with an AVG @8 or maybe that’s backwards.
by ChesapeakeBay9er on Nov 1, 2009 2:16 PM PST up reply actions
Gore had a 64 yard TD run
and Coffee only had 1 rush I believe.
so the ypc is a bit misleading.
by Andrew Davidson on Nov 1, 2009 2:17 PM PST up reply actions
I don't disagree completely
just saying the ypc were misleading. Gore should’ve had a few more runs up the gut, but the run-calls that Raye make don’t give Gore a great chance at going anywhere, because they are all essentially the same play.
by Andrew Davidson on Nov 1, 2009 2:20 PM PST up reply actions
True but it should have been lower or more realistic (ypc outcome)
We should have ran on that down that Smith threw that pick. The colsts were backing off.

Why Cant Jimmy Raye Conceed?
That we need to transition to a more shotgun/spreed offense with A Smith under center? Pride should be checked in at the door at kickoff… get over yourself and your fundamental strategy and call the plays that help make us win the best!
Pats realized that with Brady and actually if I remember the Colts realized that with Manning.
At least 50% (or close to it I believe) of their throws are from the shot. That gives them a better read of the D. I would agree that Raye needs to learn to be flexible. Someone sign him up for some yoga classes LOL
by ChesapeakeBay9er on Nov 1, 2009 2:02 PM PST up reply actions
Raye seemed to give up a bit on the running game by the 4th quarter
The thing i didnt like about it, was he called lots of passing plays out of running formations, with alex under center, and only 2 recievers. I suppose it keeps the defense guessing about run or pass….but it obvious that Alex is best out of the shotgun, and if youve decided to just pass the ball heavily then why not just put Alex in his best position to make something happen?
The offensive line just isnt going to make the run heavy offense that Raye originally wanted possible, and its obvious hes making adjustments. I just dont get what hes trying to do sometimes…hes so predictable, and stubborn with his playcalling. I dont see him being replaced in the offseason either, so it worries me that he might be the OC for a while .
Mathis was eating the offensive play calling alive when the 49ers switched to shotgun. Smith looked like he was getting happy feet in that formation too.
happy feet?
he looked like he was trying to keep each play alive to me, no matter what it took. he didnt make any horrible mental mistakes to me (some yes, but not horrible, the INT was not his fault completely, the ball isn’t round for a reason as they say)
That INT pass was a complete overthrow
If not his fault then who? don’t go blaming Crabs for that.n I am not the Crabtree supporter if you haven’t noticed
"Optimist Prime"
"Child Please" -Ochocinco
if it touches your hand
you need to catch it, sorry this is the pros right?
It was a bad pass
Crabtree was almost quadruple covered on that pattern. If the QB is going to dare throw it than the pass better be damn low. Crabtree got a deflection but he had no chance of catching that ball.
Yeah..
i see your point… but my point is that a game is never lost by one play or a bad penalty call, because if a team was that good it would never come down to that.
to blame Smith for that throw completely is being blind the fact what a team is.
wha the hell are you talking about? That pass had nothing ot do with the team.
He had protection to make a throw that wasn’t rushed and he missed his target. Crabtreee was lucky ot get a hand on it.

On one sack he completing got flustered, watched the defense line and didn’t bother to look down field. I think that’s the play he tried to scramble and Freeney got him from behind. He looked panicked on that one play so I think that is why the play calling went back to the drop back passes cause Alex wouldn’t look at the pass rush.
I saw
Peyton do the same thing too… I guess Peyton = Smith… awesome!
The Mathis sack was out of shotgun
And he just used his speed to beat Snyder to get the sack in 2 seconds. That is not Alex’s fault. Thats SNyder getting beat on a play and mathis being a good passrusher.
The Freeney sack wasnt on a shotgun play if i remember right. But either way it was a coverage sack. Alex was in the pocket and got jumpy after he didnt find anyone open. The Colts earned that sack.
Alex was NOT jumpy like people say he was today. Alex can run and he knows that. Just because hes moving out of the pocket trying to extent plays doesnt mean hes getting happy feet. Ive always thought Alex plays best when in open space. Its when hes throwing in the pocket that he makes overthrows.
It almost seemed like he panicked once the team got down 4 points.

Honestly we did better than I though we would.
I didn’t watch the game nor follow it here or anywhere having a huge work deadline to meet., so I quite possibly have a misguided viewpoint. Despite what we want and wanted to say before we are a young team. I mean look at it. We have a young team that needs some seasoning. Our D is good, darn good, but it is young. We have a guy (Crabtree) that’s in his second game, not second year, not second half of the season, second game. We have a QB that is playing in his second game this year with only spurious work with bad coaches in prior years, but he is showing some seasoning I feel (again maybe false hope and misguided). I think you get the idea without me running thru a litany of things. Yes we would have loved to have won but we didn’t and this was against the Colts. I mean look at the smackdown that the Colts have been giving to other teams (including and of note, in our division): 31-10 Cards, 34-17 Hawks, 42-6 Rams, 31-9 Titans. And we lost to them by 4 points. Did I want a loss? Did the 9ers want a loss? Did any of you want a loss? Heck no! But we can see some valuable things in this game I feel.
Now you guys tell me how stupid I am for feeling that way. :-)

I feel you. Just as long as this doesn’t turn in the Golden State Warriors verbatim of “We’re a Young team” I’ll be satisfied.

I hear that!
We’re a young team but we gotta grow up dang quick.
by ChesapeakeBay9er on Nov 1, 2009 2:10 PM PST up reply actions
Absolutely...
I did noit watch the game either, but honestly, all Niners flans should be pleased. We finally have all the offense weapons we have lacked in the past 7 years and the O-Line will be much improved over the off season. The D is really young and still solid. There is no way we are going to win the super bowl this year anyway and if we make it to the playoffs we might make it out of the first round if we are lucky. If we are 9 – 7 or 8 – 8 this year that has to be a good sign. Alex Smith is for real and we has a an O-Line next year he will light it up. Patience is virtue. GO NINERS!
Morgan was a non-factor today
I think being replaced by Crabtree affected his moral a bit….but i could just be making this up.
I dont know why they dont just decide to make Bruce the slot reciever and Morgan the #2.
Took some nice pictures in the end zone
Why couldn't McCovey have hit the ball just three feet higher??
Yeah, well put.
Do you think he has a Bro-mance for VD a little bit?

so apparently accoring to Colts fans
Sing’s a bum and we are cheaters. Never seen a team bitch so much after a win, sore winners wtf?
"Pat is still just scratching the surface." - Coach Singletary on LB Patrick Willis
Whatever they won. Let them enjoy it.
by FiveAlarmFreddy on Nov 1, 2009 2:19 PM PST up reply actions
thats my point
there not enjoying it, they are bitching about our players faking injuries and cheating
"Pat is still just scratching the surface." - Coach Singletary on LB Patrick Willis
So. Who cares?
I would be more concerned about our own team, than a bunch of Colts fans.

Yeah I completely lost respect for that blog.
by mountaindew77 on Nov 1, 2009 2:19 PM PST up reply actions
seriously I ha a high level of respect for Colts fans before I went over there
I went over there to congratulate them and wish them luck the rest of the season too! Kinda hurt my feelings :(
"Pat is still just scratching the surface." - Coach Singletary on LB Patrick Willis
you dont know how it feels
to be meeee
"Pat is still just scratching the surface." - Coach Singletary on LB Patrick Willis
Cheaters? Are they mad about our fake cramp injuries?
Why is Singletary a bum? If he hadn’t cut our kick returner the Colts probably don’t win this game, they should be thanking him.
yeah apparently the radio announcer said he saw Sing signal for Parys Haralson to fake inury
any coach who does that is a bum.
"Pat is still just scratching the surface." - Coach Singletary on LB Patrick Willis
our friendly neighborhood Colts bloggers believe so
"Pat is still just scratching the surface." - Coach Singletary on LB Patrick Willis
well I mean I wouldn't take it that far
sore winners is more like it
"Pat is still just scratching the surface." - Coach Singletary on LB Patrick Willis
The announcers are idiots.
They have radio’s in their helmets. You really think the team has a “Roll on the ground and fake a cramp” signal?
by FiveAlarmFreddy on Nov 1, 2009 2:26 PM PST up reply actions
lol no I don't think that
that’s what the Colts guy said. I couldn’t even begin to argue how ridiculous it is.
"Pat is still just scratching the surface." - Coach Singletary on LB Patrick Willis
Plummer was saying this is standard practice in the NFL
Every single team does it.
Why couldn't McCovey have hit the ball just three feet higher??
Fake or overemphasized?
Let’s face it if you’re out there and playing that hard you’re gonna feel cramps. And yes it is overemphasized and used but that’s the way the game is played. It’s called gamesmanship. They have been around Manning too long they are too used to whinning even when they’re winning.

Why is it our fastest WR is not in the damn game
Whether it’s Hill or Jones neither of them were on the damn field. TO hell with Bruce
"Optimist Prime"
"Child Please" -Ochocinco
All guys that are out of the league now
Including Galloway who was let go by the Pats. it’s not so much speed as it is hands and routes.
by ChesapeakeBay9er on Nov 1, 2009 2:37 PM PST up reply actions
Yea because footballs all about whos fastest
Just ask Al Davis.
I didn't see the game but I read play-by-play.
We lost but it seemed close.
I can’t believe in the attitude of so many 49ers fans here, first of all many of you expected the Colts to win, and the rest of the NFL expected a blowout. But look what we got.
Now look at the remaining games, I’m sure you would predict even better performance against the rest of the teams. After this game I feel better how the team is overall than before this game.
Plus we played in Indianapolis so it doesn’t completely mean that we couldn’t hang with them in this game. Atleast some of the mistakes in the game based on what I am reading here are avoidable like some stupid penalties.
Let’s raise our heads up
I love this team
Been a 49er fan for 30+ years. Mike is doing a phenomenal job. They aren’t quite there yet, but damn are they in the game. It’s a long season, anything can happen, and they are headed in the right direction.
And it’s great to see Alex growing into being a real leader and excellent quarterback.
Just looked at the schedule..
and we could easily go 7-1 or 6-2. And based on our past 7 seasons I will take 10-6 or 9-7 as a huge step forward.
Someone should have warned us not about Manning's arm but Addai's :-)
Looks like that’s what beat us. Well at least on their side. We need to work on 4th Q, close it out.

Great young players,49ers are in a rebuilding year
Several points:
1) The 49ers have great young players: I would not trade PWilly, Vernon Davis, or Crabtree for any other linebacker, tight end or reciever in the NFL. That is just scratching the surface. There are many others, all young. The pass rush and secondary (and linebackers) were all great today, and that was without Clements, who is too far along in his career to be key to figure in our future pass defense plans.
2) Alex Smith looked excellent again. He was constantly pressured. There are many plays (play action) that he is very good at that they cannot even call against a team like the colts because their pass rush is too dangerous.
3) Considering the injury to Staley the Oline did better than expected, but
4) we are in the last year of a rebuilding cycle due to the profound weakness of the Oline, which is not adequate to protect an NFL quarterback or run a normal offense
5) with 2 1st round draft peaks next year, outstanding young skill players (Smith, VD, Crabtree, Gore, maybe Josh Morgan), and a very well-defined weakness (the offensive line) the 49ers are well positioned to finish their rebuilding and become real contenders next year.
6) considering the protection he gets, Alex Smith looks like an excellent QB !
Good points overall
The thing that worries me about VD is he’s going out soon on his contract. we’ve only got him signed thru 2011 but that may just be me being pessimistic. If Staley comes back I think things could bode well for us going forward. I think that Sando from ESPN sums it up well: http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/8084/wrap-up-colts-18-49ers-14
