Isaac Sopoaga's debut
I don't know your opinions of Michael Lombardi, but he just said Sopoaga's having a pro bowl season. At first he said there's a d-lineman on the niners people don't know about and i thought he meant aubrayo franklin. i like isaac, but i don't think he's having a pro bowl season

I don't either
He’s been decent, nothing more.Franklin and Smith have both been much better than Soap.

yeah I agree.
I have seen Smith get pressure while being double teamed. I haven’t been watching Soap that much, but maybe because he isn’t being as effective as Franklin and Smith
Go 49ers
I think Franklin and Smith are benefitting from Sopoaga's strength
The guards actually helps the RT double team Isaac because he so damn strong… that leaves Franklin room to make a play and if they double team Franklin, Smith is open to make a play. I believe if DL in 3-4 are making plays most of the time the other two DL are eating up OL… Sopoaga is pushing RT and RG to the quaterback making it easier for the other guys to make a play. His play is related.
Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.
Our 3 down linemen
are all having respectively good seasons. If it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t have such a good run defense. We really badly need an edge-rusher in order to make the D-Line look better on passing downs, but generally 3-4 linemen don’t get a lot of sacks unless they are named Bruce Smith.
In other words, Manny Lawson needs to step up, as does Haralson (although he’s not playing as poorly as his sack numbers indicate). Patrick Willis leads our team in sacks from one game (2.5 against STL), that’s not acceptable.

I fine with
having our 3 Dlineman do what they are doing and be the main reason for having a great run defense. Plus J.Smith will get a sack here and there.
So aside from that I don’t care if the defensive line won’t finish the season with mroe than 10 sacks combined.
Our blitzing LB’s should be getting the sacks and thats what a couple of them are in there for, but we need to blitz a bit more often and somehow not be lacking in coverage.
Then if Manny and Parys end up with 10 sacks a piece, that will be great and make’s up for the Dline stopping the run, not the QB.
The front 3 is one of the best in football
and Sopoaga is way underrated. He frequently commands a double team and makes it easier for Smith and Franklin to win their one on one battles. This guy is one tough street fighter and all three deserve recognition.

Yesterday
Sopoaga was the one getting the pressure. He ran down Rogers and should have received credit for a sack. I’m beginning to think that we would be better off with a 4-3 and Sopoaga and Franklin at the tackles. If you notice, the big runs are almost always to Justin Smith’s side of the field, not over Sopoaga.
