49ers 10 - Bears 6: Overflow Thread
Andrew Davidson will have a recap thread coming soon enough after the game. In the meantime I think an overflow thread is in order to carry us through the end of the game and into the post-game until the recap is up.

I’m blame our WR’s except Crabtree and our defensive coordinator in calling a prevent too early at the end.
Except favre had about 5 minutes to throw the ball cutler didn’t. Almost any Qb could succeed with the vikings line and I doubt favre would do any better than cutler were he playing for the bears.

I've never been so confused over a win
The team played alright in parts, but were at there worst when it counted the most.
I think that they only had two offensive drives all game that were even a little worthwhile, and the defense… it’s hard to say they played poorly when they got five turnovers… but there were long stretches of the game where they looked really bad.

Zero passing game
The only WR who could get off man coverage was Crabtree and as soon as Chicago figured that out they rolled coverage his way.
ok seriously though
That last Niner drive was pathetic. It’s nothing short of inexcusable to not score points AND PUT THE FUCKING GAME AWAY when you get the ball with 9 minutes left in the game.
They call their best player "Kung Fu Panda" and they complain that people aren’t taking them or the game seriously enough? -Nick
STFU
They burned like 7 mins off the clock.
It was a great drive.
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.
by SportsChicken on Nov 12, 2009 8:37 PM PST up reply actions
At that point in the game it's not enough to burn time
You’ve got to put it away. Otherwise you end up with 80 yard drives in 2 min
And yet they still couldn't... wait, what is it, let me think...
oh yeah… SCORE POINTS.
I don’t care how much time they burned off the clock. In case you missed it, Chicago drove down the field because they got the ball back with almost 3 minutes left in the game, and ended up having to stop Chicago at the 12 yard line to keep from losing.
The offense can’t put the game away. Same as the last 2 weeks, and they were lucky to get out of this one with a win. If Cutler didn’t suck so much ass, this would probably have been a 13-10 loss.
They call their best player "Kung Fu Panda" and they complain that people aren’t taking them or the game seriously enough? -Nick

bottom line
it was a damn good drive, taking all that time off, but you have to FINISH. they were lucky enough to stop chicago
No, it really seems like you’re saying that the 49ers entire long drive wasn’t any good because they didn’t score any points, and then say that Chicago had a great drive that was capped by one stupid play.
Shouldn’t that Chicago drive not be a good drive because they didn’t score, by the same criteria which says that the 49ers not scoring on their drive made it a bad one?
Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.
by howtheyscored on Nov 12, 2009 8:47 PM PST up reply actions
Would you care to copy and paste where I said Chicago had a great drive?
I didn’t. We won because Cutler sucks and is really good at throwing to the wrong team.
That said, since we couldn’t score on that fantastic, magical, wonderful clock chewing drive and managed to give the ball back to Chicago with 3 minutes left, the Bears were able to get themselves into position to win the game on their last drive, instead of needing a touchdown to tie it and force overtime.
They call their best player "Kung Fu Panda" and they complain that people aren’t taking them or the game seriously enough? -Nick
I said it seems like that’s what you were saying. If I was misinterpreting things, that’s my fault.
I actually never personally commented on the quality of that drive. I was happy with the drive itself but frustrated with the result. It was a mixed bag for me. On the one hand, it did a lot to help finish the Bears off, but on the other hand, it did leave them with an opportunity to turn things around.
Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.
by howtheyscored on Nov 12, 2009 8:55 PM PST up reply actions
That's part of our problem
We put together a beautiful drive and come up empty. When you’re clicking you’ve got to finish, and I think that blame can be laid at the feet of the OC
Which is pretty much what I said.
It’s inexcusable to not score on that drive. Even a FG means Chicago needs a TD just to tie the game.
They call their best player "Kung Fu Panda" and they complain that people aren’t taking them or the game seriously enough? -Nick
For a Jimmy Raye offense
That’s amazing.
I would have liked some points, but at least the team didn’t throw 3 straight in-completions and give the ball back to the Bears with 8 mins left.
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

Now I have. Although “unbelievably terrible” is a bit of an overstatement.

I think a little blame can be put on VD
Seriously. Why say that crap, knowing your own offensive line? The O-line was probably PISSED off at VD since they know they suck already. haha
I think if you’re going to blame VD for anything, it should be for completely disappearing.

Who cares?
If someone told you before the season started that at the midway point of the season Vernon Davis would be tied for the league high in receiving TDs but still had penalty issues, you would be ecstatic

I'm always pissed at VD
but nothing a trip to the free clinic can’t fix
Theyre just so young as a network
They still dont have everything down when it comes to broadcasting games. Hell the commentating didnt even show up till halfway through the 1st. Theyre just not very good at it yet. No decent commentators wanna be on there. Except ofcourse Matt “fuck yea” Millen.
Smith is overrated?
Cutler is very much overrated, but Smith has been talked down for a long time. I believe he is underrated, if anything. Not saying he is good, just better than he is generally said to be.
Yeah, nobody thinks Smith is any good.
But oh man, was watching Cutler crumble exciting. What a fraud!

i have not seen such crumbling..since the season opener for the bears vs the packers
they did a little trivia pop-up for cutler in the 4th quarter saying something like he was the only bears QB to have 2 4-INT (+) games in one season. it was great!
Speaking of Battle, just let him take some snaps behind center

Biggest complaint about Smith last week: turnovers. He protected the ball much better this week. Biggest complaint about Smith this week? He didn’t take enough chances.
If Bochy coached the Warriors Bengie Molina would start every game at PG.
49ers
Wow, this is a bad football team! The 49ers have 4 things going for them… Gore, Davis, Crabtree, & Singletary. Everything else is a an absolute mess!
yards?
How many yards did you give up to a terrible offense tonight? If anything, they showed how vulnerable they are. If you give up that many yards to the bears, what will happen next time you play AZ?
Our defense does seem to give up a lot of yards
A better pass rush would help. Than again they gave up 80 yards on the last drive playing a prevent after the 4th Down penalty. Dumb decision, but they got away with it.
D Line is not a good pass rushing unit but they shut down the run. We know about the O Line, we call them the LOLine.
somewhat similar to the O line
they are OK enough to get the run going with Gore, but not good at pass blocking.
Isn’t run blocking the easier of the two? Simply cause you don’t have to block nearly as long.
Boy, they are terrible.

Nope
Run blocking is harder. You have to have technique and strength to blow the D-line back. You also have to be smart enough to read the secondary and pick up on the LBs. Pass blocking you don’t have to worry about it so much. You’re defending rather than attacking, so theoretically it should be easier.
We're susceptible to the big play
How often do we see teams go to 3 and long only to bust a 15 yard or 20 or 30 yard play on us?
Well, it sucked. He should have been.
They call their best player "Kung Fu Panda" and they complain that people aren’t taking them or the game seriously enough? -Nick

Yards given up and gained
Is probably the worst stat to measure a team’s success in football. I’d point to the 5 INTs as showing how good we were, or the multiple 3 and outs, and to the final score before I start calling them awful.
answer the question...
it is fine to dissagree, but answer the question…
… you can’t allow that many yards if you want to win games, against teams who at least have an average offense, let alone top ranked offenses!
Those yards would have lost the us the game if not for the turnovers.

Last time we played AZ...
We allowed a lot of yards to Tim Hightower…we still won.
The 49ers also allowed a ton of yards to Peyton Manning, but held them to only 18 pts.
This isn’t fantasy football.

Haha someone who doesn’t realize that Willis needs to be included in " something going for them", has no credibility anywhere on this planet.

Mark Roman, Michael Lewis, and Aubrayo Franklin.
One who hadn’t had a regular season INT in 2 years, a guy who’s just gotten back after 3 concussions in a month, and a nose tackle.
Spectacular, Jay Cutler.

I loved seeing Jay Cutler throw for 5 INTs.
And savor the fact that Chicago doesn’t have a first or second round pick next draft.

No offense but why is Willie Brown on Postgame Live? I’ve heard him make so many ridiculous statements and ask so many stupid questions this season. At least take his mic away and just prop him up there as a gimmick.
He doesn’t know football and he doesn’t know this team. He doesn’t know that Favre’s first name is Brett. As I type this, he’s referring to Nedney as “um…your kicker” during the Singletary interview.
He’s kind of an embarrassment to humankind.
