Golden Nuggets: The rare non-49ers game day Sunday
James is out of commission for today so I'm handling the Nuggets for the day. Given that the 49ers have today off, the links are a bit light today. Even with the 49ers being done for the week, it's been a pretty entertaining sports weekend. We've got some big games today, but that's only part of it. College basketball has begun in earnest with most teams getting into action this weekend (Go UNLV!). College football is starting to wind down as we head into rivalry weekend next week. And of course, last night saw the mega-matchup of Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto (in case anybody DVR'd it, I don't want to give it away - If you already saw it, make sure and check out our boxing blog's recap).

Come on Fooch!
Boxing? Everybody knows it’s all about MMA, boxing is past its prime and MMA is much more enjoyable these days! Not to mention just about everyone in MMA would whoop a boxers ass!
You can never resist the game... nor could I... we're the same, so don't even try.
boxing
I’m old school! I’ve tried watching MMA and just can’t get into it.

Nah, I know how it is.
I don’t have a problem with boxing or its fans, the only fans I have a problem with are those who say “MMA is just a bunch of gay guys rolling around” or things like that. I’m sure I missed a pretty good boxing event to watch a pretty crappy MMA event. UFC 105 really sucked this week.

Good to know
The NFL Network reported that the game was watched in an average of 2.75 million homes — topping last year’s opener by 29 percent and ranking as the most-watched season opener in the four seasons of “Thursday Night Football.”

Adam Schefter reported that Thursday's game
was the highest rated show in all of cable tv for Thursday night. This despite the fact that many cable companies still don’t carry the NFL Network.
Bay Area and Chicago markets help
Plus, both teams, despite what so many said about the game afterwards, are not awful and have some star power. Plus both were/are in the playoff hunt.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
