Mike Singletary Monday lunchtime press conference
Coach Singletary will be addressing the media right about now (11:45), so I thought it was worth opening up a front page post for folks to discuss the press conference. I'd imagine he'll address the Nate Clements injury, the Joe Staley injury, and Alex Smith's performance, among other things. We'll see if he addresses the cramps that slowed down the Colts hurry-up as well.
Head on over to 49ers.com's video section to view the press conference and feel free to discuss it here.

I am always impressed...
by sing’s confidence. He really seems to think like we are so close. He keeps saying it over and over that it is the little things that hurt us yesterday. The more I think about it, the more I know he is right. It isn’t a lack of hustle or a lack of talent, but we shot ourselves in the foot with a crappy turnover and some dumb penalties that put us in some bad situations (delay of game in the 4th and unsportsmanlike conduct penalty at the end of the 2nd).
He certainly is a great speaker and motivates me even as a fan. I can only imagine what his players think by listening to him.

OY. YOU THERE. THE LIMEY.
I told my buddy about Frankie Bunn.
He didn’t know who that was.

What?
He’s an Oldham Athletic fan and he didn’t know who Frankie Bunn was? WTF? He should be ashamed of his Lancashire ass. That’s like a Niner fan not knowing who Joe Montana is. Frankie Bunn scored six goals for Oldham in one game once, which is like scoring about 18 touchdowns inone NFL game.

clements NOT going on IR
Nate is not being put on IR Sing said.
Staley sounds like he’s out for an undetermined but not-so-short period of time…I’d expect a few games at least based on Singletary’s tone.
He was impressed and seems to have a lot of confidence in Alex Smith. Sounds too like the offense will evolve to take advantage of what our players do best and to NOT do what we don’t do well.
He was not impressed however with Morgan’s penalty for excessive celebration.

Hopefully it’s ONLY for a few games with Staley, but i’m pleased with how Sims played yesterday, let’s just hope that continues

Sounds like...
Morgan will be running up and down Mt. Sing a lot this week for his celebration in the end zone. I hope he got some good shots of Vernon at least. I wonder if he might post those on the Niner home page?

Staley's is NOT ACL
that’s good, still no word on how long he’s out though.

I think there are a lot of positives to be taken out of this game.
The first half was well played by the Niners. The defensive effort against Manning was nothing short of HEROIC. Holding Manning to nothing but field goals is a victory for the defense. Alex Smith had a decent game going. He wasn’t perfect, but he was getting the job done. There was no need to change offensive philosophies at the half when what you are doing is WORKING!! Too bad Jimmy Raye decided at the half to go back to his “Run and Done” offense that has just KILLED the Niners momentum in every game they have tried it. That is why the Niners lost yesterday.
Raye should be S T R I P P E D of his play calling duties. He wont be of coarse, but there are certainly legitimate reasons for taking away the play calling from Raye. Plays are coming in so late it causes delay of game penalties, Plays that even the offensive players know wont work. Changing the philosophy at halftime away from what is working to a run oriented attack that hasn’t worked all YEAR!. I think Singletary is going to have to address this problem in his staff that is costing the Niners games. If the Niners had just kept their foot on the pedal and kept throwing from the shotgun yesterday, they would have scored more points and maybe won that game. Instead, Raye reverted back to his “Run and Done” offense with it’s predictable 1st down run, no gain. 2nd down run, no gain, 3rd and long and the defense is playing pass. Incomplete. PUNT! Is the idea to burn clock? Because the “Run and Done” offense doesn’t score points. It doesn’t fool the other team at all. It is easy to defend for the opposite team. It’s too predictable. And most importantly, the Niners do not have the personnel to force a power running game. The Offensive line just isnt good enough even when they are all healthy. Raye needs to stop going to the “Run and Done” offense with a slim lead and little chance of success.
Another year, another chance to hope for the team !!

Matt Maiocco's tweets rolling in regarding Presser

for whatever reason
i like Maiocco. He posts very frequently, travels with the team, etc.

yea, he posts more often than Barrows, a ton more

Raye, is...
just slow period. Watch his press conferences, he takes forever to finish a thought. I am convinced he can’t think quickly at all and that is why the plays are coming in late. I would love to see him walk and I am willing to bet that he walks as slow as he talks. Sing today said he needs to adapt, we’ll see if it happens next Sunday. I don’t have a problem with the “Run and Done” but we need to be ahead in a game in the forth quarter by at least three TDs before we use it.

East Coast Fan...kinda sucks
by the time 9ers news starts rolling in…i’m logging off and starting to bathe my sons, dinner, etc. I do get tweets from MM via SMS but nice to read full articles…oh well. maybe I’ll move to SF when I win the lottery…cause that’s the only way I can afford a Cali lifestyle.

Fooch
Any chance you could do a quick rundown of available FA OLs (and maybe CBs). I don’t know if the team is considering adding anything to the line but we’re so thin at tackle and Boone isn’t ready it might be worth investing a proven vet who might last the rest of the season given that they’ve missed training camp and the first half.
Thoughts anyone?
