10 things the 49ers should not do
As 49er fans I'm sure most of you would agree that there are many times during the game that our stomachs turn upside down because of some bone-headed move. Whether it be an Arnaz Battle fumble, a tipped pass, a blown coverage, or Josh Morgan in motion until he sits behind the tackle, I'm sure we can all come up with instances we regularly would like to have control over.
Being that this game is essentially a must win if we want a chance at a playoff spot, I'd like to make a list. This will be a list of items that absolutely must NOT happen if we expect to win here, and win enough to make the playoffs.
1. Raye continues to be Raye.
2. M Rob is on the bench more than Moran Norris.
3 Moran Norris gets a lot of PT.
4. Sims plays like Adam Snyder.
5. Adam Snyder plays like Barry Sims(did last year).
6. Use Battle on punt returns. I can barely watch.
7. Run 5 yard plays on 3rd and long, and hope to get YAC.
8. Chilo is asked to do too much.
9. We go with a QB sneak on 4th and short.
10. Beat ourselves; Penalties, clock management, turnovers, that damn play when Morgan motions to block behind the line!!!!!
So the list is meant to be a bit funny, but in a truthfully ironic sort of way. What about it Nation, What should we not do this Sunday?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

First vote!!!
Do I get a prize? lol But in all seriousness, many of the Niners problems can be resolved with improved O-line play

I'm all out of candy and stickers.
I voted for Rodgers

Nah
I want Rogers to play like himself. That’ll mean lots of sacks for us and maybe some interceptions when he tries to force it into coverage.
I voted for Chilo and Adam.

I'd rather
He not pass for 300+ and 3 TD’s
by goatfather on Nov 20, 2009 2:51 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
he doesnt throw too many INTs
Rodgers playing like himself = 300 yds 3TDs and around 35 GB pts
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

I think maybe
you meant that you want their O-line to play like themselves… Or at least how they have a majority of the season thus far

Is it a bad sign that the title of this FanPost made me think of The Taming of the Shrew?
I don't know about that, to the groin.

Umm..
Yes!!
Forgive me for not re-reading Taming of the Shrew in the last few years, but what does the title have to do with it?

10 Things I Hate About You
was the title of a remake of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew

Yup.

Agree with most of your points...
… even though I think a lot of it is easier said than done.
My question is this: did Moran Norris kick your dog/cat?
Also, isn’t it odd that a WR gets called for a false start at least once every game? False starts should NEVER come from the outside, and yet Morgan falls victim to it, it seems, once a game (at least recently).

Norris is a terrible FB
Doesn’t block all that well and has bricks for hands.
by smileyman on Nov 20, 2009 3:52 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
It's a little hard...
… to judge what he’s done this year as his definitely level of play. While I will NEVER argue that the guy doesn’t have brick for hands, I think that he’s a better blocker than you’re giving him credit for. I know it’s been two years (or whatever long it was), but he’s been a solid fullback before (so much so that Gore loves him in front of him).
Gore has definitely had a hard time running this year and that no doubt falls (mostly) on the people in front of him (including Norris). However, how much is Norris’s perceived failure in blocking because the offensive line is failing to take on their assignments? If Norris is in charge of boxing out the MLB on a run between guard and tackle but has to suddenly take on a defensive end because the OT was useless and fails because he was somewhat out of position for that assignment, is that really his fault?
I’m not saying that it’s impossible that Norris has degraded to being a below-average fullback. I’m just saying that your judgments of his performance seem kind of snappy/hasty for a part of team that fails all around in blocking.

Norris was over the other night
My cats were too agile for him
by goatfather on Nov 21, 2009 5:39 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Correct, if the offensive line could get there blocks than Morran could do his job. He’s suppose to get the key block on the 2nd level to spring Gore into the secondary, however he’s often forced to make a different block.

What's wrong with Morgan?
He’s a fantastic blocker. Have you forgotten that both the long runs against Seattle came from Morgan motioned behind the line?
by Kaizre on Nov 20, 2009 5:25 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
He's not a good pass-catching WR. He loses focus and drops passes that hit his hands.
Jason Hill needs to be used frequently (as a starter or as a slot WR) in order for the Forty Niners to win.

I agree
that Hill needs to be used more but Morgan i snot bad…just young. He will be a good WR someday soon. He shows alot of potential.
That is one of the things we have going for us….3 potentially really good (maybe even better) WR’s in Crabtree, Morgan, and Hill
by Drew K on Nov 20, 2009 10:16 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Also
part of Morgans problem is he ISN’T using his hands to catch the ball. Most of the ones he’s missing are bouncing off his chest
by Drew K on Nov 20, 2009 10:20 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Not really.
The only time I can recall where Morgan dropped a ball that hit his chest was in the preseason against the raiders. Most balls tend to be dropped after hitting his hands. My argument is that he’s not ready now. Hill is the Forty Niners’ best bet right now because he makes plays every time he touches the ball. With Morgan, you never know what you’re going to get.
Morgan i snot bad…just young. He will be a good WR someday soon. He shows alot of potential.
Potential will not win the team games right now. He needs to spend time in the slot (he’s fairly effective there) and develop, meanwhile allowing Hill and Crabtree to start, because those two can make plays now.

What about
the one that bounced off his numbers that went in to the air for Finnegan (or maybe it was Hope, don’t remember who exactly) from the Titans to pick 6… There have been others that I cannot recall off the top of my head but it seems like when he uses his hands, he does better.
I like Hill too don’t get me wrong but I think alot of the reason why Morgan is where he is, is because he can seal the edge like a veteran on run plays. He does a great job at blocking on the ouside. I have not seen enough of Hill to make that call yet (as far as blocking goes). I don’t think it would hurt to rotate them in and out of the #2 and slot positions. It probably would paint a more clear picture. Hill is faster that is for sure. He doesn’t make alot of mistakes that is also evident. When the ball is thrown his way, he takes advantage. I would not mind seeing him get more and more involved….Hill that is.
But it doesn’t change my opinion of Morgan either.
by Drew K on Nov 21, 2009 12:55 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I forgot about that pick 6 by Cortland Finnegan! Good catch there.
I agree with what you say. Morgan can indeed seal the edge on run plays. I think Hill can, too, if given the chance. This is what I think: Assuming Morgan’s the better run-blocker, he’s not better by much than Hill. Hill is the better down-field threat, has better hands and concentration, and as you said, takes advantage of all opportunities. He’s just a straight up gamer. I think Hill is more of a complete WR and is more ready now than Morgan. That’s my main argument. I love your idea of having them switch between starter and slot, in order to figure out who fits in where the best. My main thing is, I just want to see Hill involved in the offense on a regular basis (not just third downs) even though he won’t always get the ball. I want to see more of him as an all-around WR to assess his ability the same way I assess Morgan’s. I want a fair competition between the two. I just hope Bruce isn’t ahead of Hill…ugh…that would suck.

Moran Norris is a really good FB.
Not sure where this is coming from at all.
You can never resist the game... nor could I... we're the same, so don't even try.

it's not about him being a good FB
Even though he is average.
Its about every time he’s in the game the defense knows exactly what is coming.

That’s how power run games are suppose to work . . . hence the word power.

power
only applies to the fullback? I thought it was about the whole scheme?

There is one thing on this list that can not be attributed to the o-line, as said above by bignerd, Norris is a great running back he’s just forced somewhere else, so I disagree with putting robinson in. In my opinion Raye isn’t doing a bad job, the o-line isn’t getting a push on run plays and not blocking well enough for Smith. On 3rd and long the chances are pretty low actually picking up the 1st, so it’s better playing it safe than sorry. We also have one of the best punters and defenses in the league, so I really don’t mind going short when you can trust that the ST and D do their job on a regular bases. Again there is nothing wrong with the QB sneak if the line does their job.
Your only real complaint should be on the o-line because they’re the only ones not doing their job on a consistant bases

Chilo has not played as bad as he did in the beginning of the year
You just can’t tell because Snyder is playing so horribly
"Optimist Prime"
I'll say it over and over Crabtree was not the pick we NEEDED, at least until he scores with 100yds receiving.

That dude is really good, hopefully he channels his inner (insert Chicago Bears QB here) on Sunday.

What does "Raye continues to be Raye" mean?
Does it mean we run too much? Nope.
Does it mean we’re too predictable? Nope.
Does it mean … what, exactly?

Better Question?
How can Raye not be Raye?

I guess its an illusion
that everyone thinks our offense is predictable?
by goatfather on Nov 22, 2009 9:36 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
No.
People just are calling it predictable when it doesn’t work.
Our offense has tried a variety of different strategies. In the first few weeks of the season, a “predictable” meme got picked up, bceause we were running the ball a lot.
And then we became a team that passes a lot, and somehow, people keep calling us predictable.
by Ronaldinho on Nov 22, 2009 7:30 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
That was a predictable response.
Which is to say that you’re predictably well-reasoned.

To the chagrin of a number of you;
I voted for Alex. If he focuses on his primary receiver and doesn’t look off and utilize a few good pump fakes the GB defencive backs will have a field day. That group is just too good for him to have an off day.

I think Alex is a big factor. I’m just worried that that might be true.
