We're back with just a monster game for the 49ers.  A win puts them right in the thick of the wildcard race and of course keeps them in shouting distance of the Cardinals in the West.  The 49ers face a tall task in a Packers team that has quite a few playmakers on defense, and of course a solid arm in Aaron Rodgers.  This battle of the top two defenses in the NFL will go a long way for one team's playoff chances.

Dietrich-Smith is Questionable

If he does not play that will be a big advantage. A big advantage.

I think Dashon is a pretty big factor. If he can prevent GB from getting over the top, and pursue on screens , we will be good on D.

by goatfather on Nov 22, 2009 9:06 AM PST reply actions

Well

it’s cliche, bu the Niners have to win in the trenches to win this game. Green Bay’s O-Line is in terrible shape, and the 49ers have to take advantage of that. This game seems more “winnable” as kick-off inches closer and closer.

I’m still riding high from Cal’s win yesterday. Here’s to the 49ers not disappointing me.

I’m concerned I’ve blown my karma for the weekend. Cal won, my UNLV Runnin Rebels won, Andre Ward pulled off the huge upset.

Oregon won (I hate Oregon), ND lost, I gave $1 to a homeless person, and I recycle.

http://blog.pressdemocrat.com/49ers/2009/11/tundra-is-not-frozen-at-lambeau.html

(UPDATED 9:05 a.m.): Battle is on the practice field returning punts. Reggie Smith is also catching some punts, too. The 49ers have struggled with punt returns since the release of Allen Rossum was released when the 49ers had to create a roster spot for Michael Crabtree. Rossum was released because he couldn’t stay healthy, he had a couple bobbles in the first couple games, and his only value to the team was in the return game.

by goatfather on Nov 22, 2009 9:50 AM PST up reply actions

What's that saying about road wins?

Defense and special teams. Sack Rodgers, stuff the run (as always), force a few turnovers and play perfect red zone defense. As for our ST, no turnovers, continued great coverage, make all kicks and please, for once, a 10+ yard return on a few punts.

You gotta bring ass to get ass.

reasonable

When you need one inch, it’s a smart call to go with the upback. You give it to Gore he has that extra yard or two to make up, which is why most teams go to the fullback. And Gore has had big runs, but he’s had just as many stuffs in the middle for a loss.

Just hopping into the thread after that horrifyingly stupid series of events.

I was being cautiously sarcastic when I said before that third down play, “at least we won’t hand it to Moran Norris again.”

Jimmy Raye is so stupid. It’s like he has a “third and one” play, a “second and five play” and a “fourth and inches on the road in the first quarter while down by three” playcall. I honest to god think that he just has a computer simulation that calls one of thirty total plays based on the league’s mean call in such a situation.

Zero creativity.

The Packers offensive line has been a joke all year and we get absolutely no pressure on Rodgers. But, Manusky doesn’t understand this concept. The bend but don’t break attitude is a failure!

Well, hello everyone.

I am unfortunately in New Jersey for a family illness and am not watching the game. My mother doesn’t have internet so I am in the town library. From the less than complete descriptions of the action and the angst and the bilious comments being posted I can only guess that things aren’t going well. The team sounds flat, the game sounds fixed, and there’s a lot of Alex Smith hate although the NFL site has him as only having attempted two passes. Kind of hard to believe.

Anyway, my heart is with everyone but I’m probably going back to watch the Giants. At least Mom has cable.

Slow down a bit..

For the first time in years the o-line is one of the weaker positions in this draft. This looks to be one of the most talented drafts in YEARS but o-line isn’t where it’s strong. I want one o-lineman and one defensive player, with a good guard in the second or third round.

No Singletary's offensive line

is garbage! It’s time to stop using oh this guy is hurt another guy is hurt! They need to go out there and play instead of acting like they don’t belong out on the field to begin with!

by Rocky63215 on Nov 22, 2009 11:01 AM PST up reply actions

This is embarrassing

So far, can we really blame the O-line? It seems like Smith isn’t being decisive and/or or receivers are not getting open. Regardless, its time to start switching up the playcalling and ADAPT TO THE DAMN GAME

by Rdubya on Nov 22, 2009 11:00 AM PST reply actions

The o line may not be up to par....

but I agree with what you’re saying. Smith seems very indecisive.. I get the feeling he’s 2nd guessing himself..

by ThermoElectro on Nov 22, 2009 11:01 AM PST up reply actions

Smith is making bad decisions.

But he panics, that’s Smith. If the o-line was better, he’d panic less.

Are you watching the game?

Smith is moving from the pocket and that’s when he’s running into trouble. Obviously, our O line is bad, but Smith needs to know that and work with what he has

The only reason it sounds appealing is because you haven’t seen him suck yet. Putting him on the field would change that.

But we aren’t getting pressure on the weakest o-line in the league. It’d be worth putting in a guy the Packers didn’t study one bit.

The 49ers should have gotten that stop on 3rd and 5

But they didn’t very next play a 64 yard touchdown! This is why the 49ers do not have a good defense.
