Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Jeckyll and Hyde

I really don´t know what´s happening to this team, it seems that there are two different teams on the field and each one plays one half of the game. What´s wrong with our coaching staff? Why can´t they make up their minds on how should this team play? It shouldn´t be so hard, If you keep on giving away one half in every game, we are neither making the play-offs nor having a winning record this season. If you stubbornly insists on playing as we did during the first half, that will make us lose a lot of games, so come on Mike OPEN YOUR EYES, this is not  Chicago 1985, this team can´t impose its will, not with this offensive line. A good coach has to be able to get the best from his players, if you put Alex Smith on the field because he is better passing the ball than Shaun Hill, then why don´t you let him pass until we are 21 points under the opponent, I can´t understand how we play so differently during the same game. If you are so afraid of turnovers let me ask you something, do you really think the risk of a turnover is much worse than ending every drive with a punt?, wasting our offense opportunities and giving the ball to the opponent´s offense over and over.

I know that from the start of this season you said you wanted to run the ball and play physical football, but we have already played 10 games, and by now you should have realized that we are not tougher than any other NFL team. It´s good to have a clear concept of what you want, but stick to a system that has proven itself wrong for this team is a MISTAKE (with capital letters).

You have got the weapons: Alex Smith, Frank Gore, Vernon Davis, Michael Crabtree, Josh Morgan, etc, so why do you insist on keeping them in the holsters during the whole first half of every game?

Please stop doing that, let´s play an offense our players can fit in, we can´t afford any more mistakes,  because we are running out of time, so you better change quickly or it will be too late to keep your word " this is the last year…"

Agreed.

I have to agree at a certain point in time earlier this season I started to become greatly aware that Mike Singletary is not an X&O guy but rather a motivator.

SF has some weapons and talented young players that can do some things but they can only do whatever their coaches tell them to. As for the much maligned Jimmy Raye….. much has to be said that his hands are tied bc from the jump Singletary said they were going to punch people in the mouth. Not wise to give away the game plan but it’s even less wise not to change it up when they stick 8 or 9 people in the box and stop you dead short or Gore breaks a long TD run.

Shotgun plays would create more opportunities but so would play action passes, slants, dump offs and a more creative approach offensively against the defensive formations.

BRING BACK SHAUN HILL IN THE SHOTGUN FORMATION

What most of you dont realize is their success is mostly because of play calling, and what keeps you safe and gives you time to be successful as a QB, ( Offensive Line ). Shaun Hill was kicking major ass when he was in the Shotgun position and when they let him pass more. But then the play calling changed and Shaun Hill was put up on the line instead of being placed in the Shotgun just like Alex Smith last game. And they used the run as a last resort instead of running on first and second downs, then trying to pass when the defense is set up for pass because it is 3rd down. Very stupid play calling, just like you brain dead fans.
