49ers drop tampering charge - MNF Open Thread

According to Maiocco, the 49ers have dropped their tampering charge surrounding Michael Crabtree and the Jets.  According to Maiocco's source, the 49ers have their guy and are fine moving on from it.  Sounds a bit like "being the bigger man."  I wonder if the team would be so big about it if Crabtree was struggling right now?  I would have liked a draft choice or some kind of compensation, but in the end, the 49ers did get their guy and their guy looks gooooood.

As for tonight, the Titans head to Houston with the hope of continuing their resurgence on the back of Chris Johnson.  Given how Tennessee has played lately, I think this could be a fun game to watch.  Feel free to discuss the game here.

Young has been 3-0 since he was put back in the lineup

they’re playing now like the 13-3 team they were last year.

Chicago

should really take a look at how classy the 49ers were now that they have their guy under contract. The Bears signed Briggs, but still wanted to screw us. That’s telling a girl she’s ugly, and still expecting to have sex with her.

Speaking of classy

Rex Ryan is upset because the Patriots tried to run up the score on him. Maybe he ought to keep his players from bad mouthing his opponents if he doesn’t want that to happen.

by smileyman on Nov 23, 2009 5:21 PM PST up reply actions

Seriously. The Patriots are never going to make it to the BCS title game if they’re not willing to run up the score on a few scrubs.

I don't know about that, to the groin.

by howtheyscored on Nov 23, 2009 5:23 PM PST up reply actions

Seriously, though, I hate the “code” mentality of sports. It’s stupid. Stop whining. If you don’t want them to run up the score, just stop them.

Furthermore, they did stop them! The Pats didn’t even complete the pass! Somebody call the whaaaambulance. There’s a whaaaamergency situation!

I don't know about that, to the groin.

by Zoltan from Budapest on Nov 23, 2009 5:24 PM PST reply actions

It's Classy

But if there was evidence of tampering don’t the 49ers owe it to the league to stay strong on this front? I mean if true it was a precedent i don’t believe the NFL wants set. It isn’t like “tampering” with soon to be free agents. This sets into motion the “perceived” ability of teams to contact drafted players and all that does it make a mockery of the draft process.

           Am i wrong here?

Not wrong

And if not for the punishment we received due to the Briggs charge I wouldn’t care. After that, the league owes SF to pursue this and provide at least an equal piece of punishment to the Jets. It shows Goodell really doesn’t care. This creates the perception (again) of east coast bias and he truly does not care. Becoming more Stern like everyday.

You gotta bring ass to get ass.

by SpurredOn on Nov 23, 2009 8:10 PM PST up reply actions

My guess

If this were going to go any further, it probably would have implicated Crabtree’s agent, Eugene Parker.

They might’ve agreed with him to keep his name out of the tampering case (as their concession in getting Crabtree signed…when Parker pretty much conceded on everything else).

Maybe the “bigger man” situation is related more to Parker, than it is to the Jets.

Probably extends to his

I’m guessing that the evidence was probably tenuous at best, so rather than push it and generate antagonism from the Jets we drop it so that they’ll be more amenable to helping with the new stadium.
