Golden Nuggets: Suffer with me!
Morning, folks. I'm not even supposed to be here today! Anybody who can tell me what that's from likely has a pretty good taste in movies. Still, I hadn't planned on doing the Nuggets tonight until a few hours ago when I found out I'd be available to do them, so here I am! You guys don't have to suffer without me, but as fans of a losing team you can suffer with me! I don't have very many links for you today, however, and I am in a bit of a hurry. So with that in mind I'm going to get right to them.
Here's a bit of a preview for the upcoming game against Jacksonville. (49ers.com)
The 49ers need continuity on offense.. I guess, I mean, it's not like the offense is showing anything.. (PressDemocrat.com)
I guess that's what we get, as Singletary seems to be stubborn and won't be making any major changes. (SFGate.com)
Here's a case for keeping the current coaching staff and what not how it is.. meh. (MercuryNews.com)

i agree
we should keep the coaches for at least another year .that will be alex smiths true test cause he will actually be able to focus on rayes offense for then one year call it marinating if u will.
Agreed, too.
Kawakami’s article was a slam dunk to me. Did I mention that I’ve been asking for a pass rusher the past 4-5 years? Just wondering if I haven’t made people hate me saying that yet. A first year for a head coach should be about evaluating what he has and if what he has meshes with what he wants out of the team.
One year is not enough time to prove a coach a failure. Remember that Bill Walsh went 2-14 in his first year. Patience gave us those golden years. Let’s give everybody a second year. If there’s no improvement shown, then I’ll be with you guys in wanting a clean sweep. The last thing we want is for impatience to deny us a possible future.
Basically what he's saying is true, and I think most people know it in the back of their heads
The 49ers have a lot of overlapping moves after a streak of poor seasons. If you continue with the overlapping method, could cause a much longer streak.
I will say, I did not know that Mike Johnson had played QB in the pros, I would actually be ok with him being the OC next year. In general though, they’re not going to get a magical first year QB starter, they’re not going to find a FA QB starter, they’re not going to find miracle FA offensive linemen. I actually like everyone going into 2010 knowing ( and I hope Jed tells them this before the season ), that it’s playoffs or bust. Draft like you need those players in 2010. Hit FA like you need those players in 2010.
Last off-season there seemed to be some semblance of urgency, but then they traded away their 2nd rounder, and drafted an RB in the third round. Meaning in the first 3 rounds, they didn’t attack what have been the two biggest needs the last 3 years in a row, OT and OLB. Now, OG has moved up as well.
Maybe if they know their jobs are on the line, they’ll stick to drafting need at the expense of a little value.
Maybe they won’t game-plan 80% of their pre-season for a style of play that the roster is physically unable to perform.
The worst part of all of this, is the fact that the 49ers will likely win their last two games over terrible teams, and could very well beat the Cardinals at home. Meaning a late 3-1 record, and “promise” for the next season.. again.

Screw It!
Fire Raye and then do NOT hire another OC, just like Alex run the offense… really could get any worse?
More York Losing It Will Go On Forever
As long as the idiot Yorks, John and Jed, continue to run things, this organization is doomed to more and more failure..Even Coach Singletary can’t help overcome the stupidity of the Yorks and Scott McCloughan..
Face it 49er fans, the future is doomed with the idiots running things and please don’t let these aholes get a new stadium, they don’t and never will deserve anything good from San Francisco..
Let the idiot Yorks take the team out of the bay area and lets start over with an expansion team..
Firing Raye or even Singletary won’t help this sad sack laughingstock organization, only getting rid of the York will ever give 49er fans relief..
kind of irrational
you’re lumping Jed in with John and Denise because he has the same last name.
He’s been in charge for less than a year. Give him through 2010 before you force him to blow up the entire coaching and management staffs.

THIS COMMENT IS LAME
"Pat is still just scratching the surface." - Coach Singletary on LB Patrick Willis
Personally, I've been liking what the York have been doing
As a template, that is. I feel like they’ve been getting wiser with each passing year since the Erickson days, but they’re not quite there yet. I believe they will. I do like that they give coaches time to hang themselves instead of firing themselves without giving them time to set their foundation (or in Al Davis’ case, acquire one). I understand the anger because of the need of an owner who knows what he’s doing from the get go, but instead, we have one that needs patience to learn from their mistakes. But the trick here is that even if they have learned all they need to, success is still not guaranteed. As an owner, you can only go by what looks good on paper.
Our problems have stemmed from the people in charge of personnel. As much as I don’t like the Yorks, they have allowed their management to do their jobs, which is what most successful organizations do. We just constantly get duds in the front office, which I think McCloughlan is.
I think he's hit and miss.
McCloughhan has done enough good that we could do worse, yet bad enough to where we also can do better. Fair to say that I’m indifferent on him. I don’t mind him staying, but will not defend him if axed.
" I'm not even supposed to be here today! "
Is from the movie Clerks :)…prize please lol
Front office
As I have said before. Front office and ownership has to change what they are doing. They are not on the same page.
Raye better show by year's end
that he can adapt to what we have. That was the biggest complaint about Martz was trying to run a passing attack offense when we had no one exceptional (or even real good) at WR and a QB who threw more INT’s and took more sacks than completions (JTO).
If the offense clicks, truly clicks, for at least the final two or three games…Raye might survive as OC another year. If not though I say we start there, promote Johnson (who many have earmarked for HC in the not-so-distant future), possibly fire the OL coach too.
I agree that FA and Draft have to be done right, no exceptions. And honestly guys…we can’t blow a 1st round pick on a QB. The ones we have might not be special right now, but we can’t run the ball with our star player either behind this O-Line. We have to address the line and pass defense (whether that’s pass rusher or secondary I’m not sure yet though).
Interesting quote from the Niners Team Report on Yahoo sports...
“But Singletary is not ready to instruct Raye to scrap the team’s offense and go strictly with a shotgun/spread formation for the entire game. He said the fact the 49ers were successful in the spread was merely a coincidence.” Is it considered a coincidence when they keep being successful in every game that they have went to it? One time it happens, yes, two times, maybe, over and over again? I think not.

just heard a quick quote by Singletary on KNBR
where he said, “we’ll use some form of the spread formation, we will. But we’re not going to just scrap everything we said we were in training camp…”
We don't need to scrap everything
We don’t even need to run the spread more often. Running the spread won’t mean anything if we continue throwing a bunch of screens and 5 yard checkdowns. That was the problem is Sunday’s game. That’s all we did in the 1st half. There wasn’t a single deep pass.
Yeah I understand that....
They just need to run their offense in reverse, especially with that o-line. Use the shotgun/spread, maybe get a nice lead in the 1st half, then as the opposing defense gets tired, mix in some of the old stuff, but not TOO much because we don’t want another Colts game happening, where they have the lead and just try to run out the clock for 30 mins lol
Every Kevin smith movie is pure gold (except jersey girl but we won’t talk about that failure)
