...And now for something completely different
To be quite honest, all the playcalling debates, the scheduling predictions and the discussion about "what we should do" or "who we should get" is tiring me out. I just want to sit back and relax, and not think about the 49ers for a few hours (well, let's not get crazy). Anyway, I'm starting this thread up to get suggestions from Niners Nation on what movies to watch, what books to read, or what video games to play. I was browsing through my TV listings, and noticed the movie "Daylight" is on at 9 PM EST, and another "Kitchen Party" is also airing at the same time.
Daylight stars Silvester Stallone, and I've never seen it. However, I must say, outside of the Rocky films, I'm not a very big Stallone fan. I suppose I didn't hate Cliffhanger, but for the most part, I don't like his stuff. This other flick "Kitchen Party" stars Scott Speedman, and I've never heard of it. I read the description and it interests me as much as watching a debate between two feminists concerning the state of lesbianism.
Ok, moving on, my point is, I'm not sure what to watch and I'd rather it not be either of the movies mentioned above. The World Series is not on, and I don't have an NBA or NHL package so if there's any "must-see" games in those sports, chances are I don't get them. Since it's not the playoffs and the Blues and Spurs have the night off, I wouldn't be interested anyway. So Niners Nation, I come to you on the day of your daughter's wedding and ask you commit murder. I mean, I come to you and ask for your suggestions. I'll start it off with a few examples of my own:
Movie - Theatre
Zombieland - I'm a sucker for zombie flicks and I like comedies, so this movie was a perfect combination for me. For those that haven't seen the movie, there's an awesome cameo appearance that is worth the price of admission alone. The movie stars Woody from Cheers, the kid from Adventureland, the hot chick from Super Bad and the young girl from Signs. There is plenty of gore and laughs to fill up the movie's 1 hour 28 minute running length, and a great outtake after the credits roll, so stick around after the movie. Also, for the benefit of people who haven't seen the movie, please do not post the cameo appearance in the comments, because that spoiler would be a jerk face move.
Movie - DVD/Blu Ray
The Watchmen - This movie is a long bastard of a movie, but it has a killer soundtrack and a riveting plot. Ok, maybe the plot isn't that riveting, but the action sequences are superb and the "realistic" approach of the lives of super heros came off quite nice. There are parts the movie drags, and there's plenty of blue penis, but overall it's a pretty solid movie. Yes, it has a 2 hour, 43 minute time limit, but if you've got a cute chick to get blowies from spend quality time snuggling with during the movie, I suggest it. Chances are, since it's a pretty popular movie, you've already seen it. In that case, I've been bust, because I just wanted to post "blue penis" at least once here at Niners Nation (now I've done it twice - muwahaha).
Book - That you read, not the audio version
Intensity (Dean Koontz) - Seriously one of the best books I've ever read. It's intense like the title suggests, and it's pretty damn thrilling. The plot line goes like this: Girl gets kidnapped and tries to escape the clutches of a sadistica murderer. It's a little more detailed than that, but I'm just giving you the heads up of what type of book it is. While the plot is a bit cliche in terms of "survival horror", it's unrivaled in excellence. I tip my cap to Dean Koontz for this gem, and apparently writing the book took a lot of out him. The fast-paced nature of the book illustrates why.
Video Game
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 (X360, PS3, Sega Dreamcast) - I recently got my hands on a Sega Dreamcast, and immediately got my hands on a copy (literally) of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. My fingers are still aching from trying to pull off combos and smash my opponent's head in. You can be a wide variety of characters, whether it be Jill Valentine from Resident Evil, Venom from the Marvel Universe or Ryu from Street Fighter. The game is available as a download on XBox Live and the Playstation Network, and the online play will likely cause you to scream as you get your ass kicked over and over again. Regardless this is probably the best 2D sprite fighter ever made, and if you like that sort of thing, check it out.
Ok, so you get the picture. Suggest something you enjoy that you think others may, and hopefully they won't be so god-awfully obvious as the ones I've mentioned above. While this fanpost is completely off-topic in relation to 49ers news, it is not unrelated to Niners Nation, because we are human beings after all and need to be entertained. I could've just googled, but the members here usually come up with interesting thoughts, and at the very least, humorous slander towards topic creators that make stupid threads (I'm looking at YOU, me).
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

Memento and The Road
As my avatar suggests, I love the movie “Memento”. If you haven’t seen it, go out and rent it today. If you’ld rather read a book, go and get Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road”. It’s not very long and it’s creepy as hell. There’s a movie version of “The Road” starring Viggo Mortensen coming soon, but everyone knows the books are always better.
Don't trust this guy. He lies.

Memento
I’ve seen it, quite good indeed.
I also really want to see the Road and also the Crazies (a Romero remake, but this time with a budget).

Wait for Ninja Assassin
Who doesn’t love a kick ass ninja movie? Really you should add a poll to this post.
Do you like Ninjas? Yes or No?
I bet it gets a higher approval rating than Singletary backed by a double Joe Nedney factor.

In all honesty
That movie looks to be pure dribble. I won’t even “rent” it when it comes out on “video”. And by that I mean watch it when someone broadcasts it on JTV.

Watchmen was horrendous
![]()
Cannot even give it a rating from 1 to 10. It’s was more like a rating of 3 out 100.

+1
That was so terrible, even the softcore scene that broke out in the middle of the flick is ashamed to be associated with Watchmen.
Re: Marvel and I’m a DC vs. Capcom, I wouldn’t know… I’ve started checking out the new Dungeons and Dragons online game… It’s okay so far. Otherwise I still rock Madden 07. What can I say, I’m a sucker for my franchise, and EA stopped making Madden for the PC.
I'm thinking but nothing's happening.

I liked it
Although I have to give you the LOL for that picture of Simon.
I loved the soundtrack in the movie, and I also liked the casting choices for the most part. The movie would’ve been a lot better with official super hero characters, but it was based on a comic that wasn’t allowed to have official super heros in the first place.
I thought the movie had excellent emotion and great fight scenes.

Go get Borderlands, for whatever system you own. I traded in my madden for it this morning and it is fantastic, by far one of the best games ive ever played. (Until the new call of duty comes out next week of course)

I was considering Borderlands
but I feel that I won’t like it because of my love affair I had with Fallout 3. Borderlands looks great, but I think I’m just going to wait for Fallout New Vegas.

NBA2k10
Has a new awesome ‘My Player’ career mode. Start from the bottom in the D-League, play well, earn point, your skill goes up and eventually a NBA team will pick you up and you go from there. One of the most comprehensive single player career modes available in a sports game thus far.

1984
by George Orwell
Pure genius, and one of the most interesting books I’ve ever read. Much of it applies to the world that we currently live in today…

I've heard many of goods things
about 1984, I’m putting on my list. I’ll read, it just may take me 7 years to get around to it.

I’d finished reading that not too long ago. There was a lot in there that seemed very applicable to modern society. I enjoyed it.

Boondock Saints
If you have never seen this movie I would suggest going out and rent it.
I have als heard that Boondock Saints 2 “All saints day” had a limited release here in the U.S. Unfortunately, it was not released near me. I guess they don’t think anyone in North Dakota likes a good Irish renegade movie!

DVD Movie: “The Orphanage”. Spanish-language “foreign” film produced (or directed, I can’t remember) by the same guy who did “Pan’s Labyrinth.”
Game: NBA 2K10. The end.

I don't think I can take another
series of nightmares like the ones Pan’s Labyrinth gave me (kidding of course). The Orphanage, based on the title alone, sounds quite creepy.
As for NBA 2k10, I have no choice but to give it a try.

The Orphanage.
I don’t generally like “scary” movies because they generally don’t scare me and just seem to usually just be slash-fests or POP-OUT-AT-YOU-BOO! fests. The cool thing about “The Orphanage” was that it’s more of a throwback “scary” film, using sounds and suspense to keep you glued to the screen.
by sfgfan on Nov 4, 2009 10:38 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
You know, I have to admit that I really, really hated The Orphanage.
I thought I liked it when I watched it, but then I kept thinking about it… and I kept hating it more and more… until it became what it is today.
Why would anybody give mouth-to-mouth to a woman whose FACE WAS SPLIT IN HALF BY A BUS????
Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.

My other problem was just that it works so hard to tie everything up in a nice little package. By the end, there’s really nothing for me to feel creeped out about because they’ve pretty much explained every last minute detail with painstaking care. I want loose-ends, darnit. The entire nexus of any unease I felt came from the feeling that something was going on that defied explanation. When they went and explained it, it undermined so much of the rest of the movie for me…
Also: “Let me quaintly wipe this face-blood off my chin.”

anything named Slaughterhouse-Five
sounds like it’s worth reading. I take it’s not a sequel or anything?

No it is about the fire bombings during WWII

The reason it is called Slaughterhouse-five is because that is where the POWs are held and take shelter during the fire bombings of Dresden.

Rent all 6 seasons of "The Wire"...
It’s like reading a novel on TV. Plus, it may become a course at your University (it already has at one).
Well, we're waiting....

another reason why HBO should be available in Canada. Sounds like a pretty damn good show, based on the Wikipedia page I just read on it. Ok, I may have too many things to do after all these suggestions, but hey, that’s much better than nothing.

It's known as ...
One of the greatest achievements in Television, and David Simon (the creator of the series who was a Baltimore beat writer) deftly illustrates the decay on not only Baltimore, but of the American ideal and culture. I’ve heard Simon speak on the decline of modern Journalism and it’s effect on society, and it’s scary. Season 6 illustrates that a bit.
Omar, one of the main characters of the series, is perhaps the single greatest character ever created on television.

You definitely saved the best for last
Married With Children is my favourite Television Show ever. I attribute 90% of my personality to Al Bundy, without him I would know no saracasm or slander towards red-headed women!

LOL
It’s on overnight on TBS or something so i DVR every episode, even though i have seen them all. It has to be the best show ever created. No Maam, Jiggly Room etc… C’mon that is some funny funny stuff. My favorite episodes are when they camped out in the grocery store when their air conditioner broke down and the Psycho Dad episode too.

has 3 or 4 episodes a row on in the morning, another sweet stash for the DVR.
Al Bundy vs. Hightower for the City Championship Trophy was a classic too. There’s no topping Bundy, he did score 4 TDs in a single game you know! LOL
