49ers-Titans Week 9 Announcing Crew
Since the Tennessee Titans, an AFC squad, are the visiting team in an inter-conference matchup, CBS will be broadcasting the game this week at 1:15pm pacific time. The broadcasting crew this week consists of play-by-play man Ian Eagle and color commentator Rich Gannon.
I've heard both of these announcers in the past, but it's been long enough that I can't recall very many specifics about either announcer. They do represent the #5 crew for CBS though. Nothing spectacular, but as long as I don't have to listen to Jim Nantz I'm fine. "Hello friends..."
It's been a while since hearing Gannon, but I thought I recalled he was actually a half-decent color guy. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. One plus to having a QB as the color guy, is that we'll hopefully get some solid breakdown of Alex Smith. Smith will be making his second start of the year so I'm certainly curious to hear what a solid QB like Gannon has to say. Gannon was an athletic QB in college before taking some time to find his way in the NFL. I'd imagine he'll have plenty to say about Alex Smith.

Gannon
Remeber Vince Young will be starting also, so hopefully we get at least an equal amount of talking about each QB unlike when He who shall not be named in purple is on the field (or off it for that matter).

But Gannon just rips on QB’s. You’d hope he’d spend 90% of his time talking about Vince Young cause that means Alex Smith and 49ers are beating the crap out of Titans.

Gannon
is pretty decent and pretty modest when he recounts his days as a player (a bit self-depricating in a humorous sense). I recall once someone asked him what it was like being a young QB starting in the NFL and Gannon replied “I wouldn’t know, it took me until I was 35 before I was good enough to start” (or something along those lines).
I wish we could’ve landed Gus Johnson and Steve Tasker for the game. Although Johnson tends to over exaggerate (and get over excited), I like the combo of he and Tasker.

But that’s what makes him fun to listen to, no? I love that guy. He reminds me of the football version of Jon Miller. The way he calls the games really exemplifies the kind of passion that I think all commentators need to have. Maybe Joe Buck should listen to him and tap into some’uh dat. Jesus gracious, good god, macaroni and cheese, that guy is awwwwful…

Gus Johnson may be overly exuberant, but he does have a sense of the moment.

I totally agree
That’s what makes Gus so good to listen to, his excitement for the moment.

I loved what Artie Lang did to him on his talk show. Joe Buck is a nancy boy, that should stick to doing baseball.

I agree with you
I like the CBS crews better as well, but maybe because I don’t get to listen to them as often as the boneheads on Fox.

Fox is really is awful in comparison, lead announcers and commentators.

Gannon and Aikman
and Brian Billick, I think are really good. You know who is terrible to watch? Mike Mayock, I listened to him announce a preseason game and I watched it on mute most of the time. Damn lisp!

Gannon is good
And will give good analysis about both QB play and offensive play calling.

Gannon
I haven’t heard Gannon in a while, but I remember him to be quite impartial when analyzing.
Both him and what’s his name… the dallas cowboys qb? hall of famer? crap… they’re both pretty good.
I’ve also heard Gannon on knbr a few times, and the guy is extremely knowledgable about the game. i’d put him close to steve in terms of knowledge.

Gannon is pretty decent. I was listening to him during the Bills game last week
and he does a good job of telling you what the safeties are doing. It does pay to have a QB in the booth.

I know I'm the only one but...
I like Tim Ryan. He’s super smart football-wise and has a good voice. I listen to him and Pat Kirwan on Sirius and that’s definitely the most intelligent football show going. Man I’d kill for Pat Kirwan as our GM…

Tim Ryan
I like his sound, I’ll give you that. Pat Kirwan is a good football mind, I agree.

call it devotion, call it what you will
but I’d take Kirwan’s words to the bank

Just be thankful you don't have Dick Stockton and Charles Davis
I quit after I heard Patrick Mebane from Stockton.

it took me a few minutes to figure out what you meant
then I realized Patrick Mebane is Brandon Mebane, and that Dick Stockton is a dolt.
