4th
quarter is not our friend the Minn game, last week and this week we are leading and then……
Sam Fuld is the more accomplished Major League Hitter- Gordon Wittenmeyer
Manusky and Raye should be shown the exit.....
49ers lose again because of piss poor playcalling by Raye and the most overrated defensive coordinator in football in Greg Manusky! Hello, just because the 49ers are good at stopping the run doesn’t mean they come close to doing anything else right.
Like, oh I know tackling, getting after the quarterback, forcing turnovers, etc…..Time to get rid of Manusky!
I agree. No turn overs, No pass rush, nothing from this defense except Willis.

Smith has all the talent but he makes bad choices... again and again
"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, either way, YOU'RE RIGHT !"
QB Coach and OC have to work with him on starting after the snap and looking off the safety initially.
"Optimist Prime"
"Child Please" -Ochocinco
Hmmmmm could it be because Raye absolutely sucks at playcalling
How about the fact in the red zone here’s a little draw play to Michael Fucken Robinson, here’s a little dink pass to robinson again for four yards, finally making a good play on third down except Smith couldn’t deliver the ball to a wide open Gore.
Fourth down field goal time.
Smith has had his moments this year
but wow. I know this is only his second start, but I’m less than encouraged. Has looked really really good, and really pretty awful too.

What did I miss?
Just landed at airport. I see Smith has 2 INTs, his fault? Is Smith from two years ago back?
one was tipped
by a defender – it was his fault because the pass was late. The last one was just totally his fault. telegraphed his pass
A hearty thank you to Rich Aurilia for all the good memories, and to the Niners for finally getting the uni's (mostly) right.
he also has a fumble
but that was kind of a fluke – his arm came up to throw and hit a defenders helmet

Game Over
That is why you run the ball when you have the lead. Passing the ball when they didn’t need to lost the game, go back to the drawing board all you OC’s.
Not scoring more is what lost the game.

They call their best player "Kung Fu Panda" and they complain that people aren’t taking them or the game seriously enough? -Nick
It's time to play to your strength
Play with a lead and run the ball. Let Andy Lee dominate the punt game. Let the other team try to score against your dominate defense. It’s not time to go 3/4 WR and throw the ball on 1st down and 2nd and long.

That pass to Gage was totally conservative.
They call their best player "Kung Fu Panda" and they complain that people aren’t taking them or the game seriously enough? -Nick
I’d say the Titans won due to Alex Smith turning the ball over four times. None of those turnovers exhibited an incredibly impressive defense by the Titans as much as poor timing and lack of football instincts by Smith.
And I would hardly call the Titans offense “conservative” today. Young gunned it down the field multiple times with success. He averaged over 8 yards per pass attempt, which is not conservative in any sense.
This was a tough loss
I’d rather lose with Hill putting up no points than Smith throwing picks all over the place.
Like my diamonds? The Devil himself gave them to me...
Sounds like
Some people are making excuses for Alex Smith. 4 turnovers. 3 int. and 1 fumble. 24 points off turnovers. Wow! Smith literally gave this game away.
And all this “Josh-Morgan-didn’t-come-back-for-the-ball” talk is horrible. Alex needs to get the ball out to his receivers quicker. Get it? I can’t elaborate here being that this thread is restricted to a few sentences only. I’ll have to come back another day and give my perspective on the whole matter. In short. Smith sucks, and his performance at Houston was exactly as I had it originally, a fluke…

Big picture...yes youre right.
But Smith still has the rest of the season to make the best of his last chance
I beg to differ
This season is more than lost, and I’m losing faith in singletary with each game that passes. Smith is a goner… fans should just deal with it. I’d really give this Nate Davis kid a shot (and please don’t bring up his learning disability because all of that is just crap).
I really appreciate your optimistic approach though.

I say let Smith finish the season. We know what we have with Hill, assume what we have with Smith, and likely have to draft a QB.
Let's bring the...
I think we have to finish with Smith
and hope he fixes the interceptions. If he doesn’t then we draft a QB
Not always. You don’t use a number one pick on a stop gap. He’s been a complete bust.

I concur.
This is why we ditched Smith for Hill. I was really hoping things would change, he looked good the last two games (overall). I really thought the playcalling was our downfall the last two games. But 3 INTs and a fumble by Smith. That is the Smith I remember.
This
Smith is an average QB who will stick around for a long time as a back up. Not a starter. The staff needs to take a good long look at college QBs entering the draft next year. He had good protection from the line today; he just waits to make his throws, and that is all the defense needs to make a play.
I'm a Smith fanboy...
…and I’ll agree, this was a crappy performance. The difference is that I’m not going to look only at this game when evaluating his viability as a starting NFL QB.

Good catch by Crabtree
"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, either way, YOU'RE RIGHT !"
This is why we can't run the no huddle all game
Sacks, turnovers, and now Crabtree isn’t lined up properly. But today, everyone who wanted to exclusively run the spread and throw it around got what they wanted.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
What D?????
If coaching staff (Singletary, etc.) is just going to care about D and not even care about the obviously poorly prepared and assembled 2009 O unit…then can D at least play so we can routinley lose games like 14 to 3. So at least we can then just laugh at O and our QB’s, but have something to hold onto for next year in a promising D!!!!

Yes
Need more help at safety. I don’t believe that Eric Berry will be around and Taylor Mays’ MO is to massacre the ball carrier instead of playing fundamently. Defenently, all those spots need addressing.
Even if we got a pass rusher
Manusky wouldn’t know what to do with them. Wasn’t Justin Smith supposed to be that? Wasn’t Paryls Harralson supposed to be that? How about Kentwan Balmer? How are those players working out? Manny Lawson was also supposed to be a pass rusher too.
Manusky doesn’t have pass rusher in his vocabulary.
pass rush
Do you know how a 3-4 operates? Justin Smith and Kentwan Balmer are not brought in to be pass rushers. In the 3-4 defensive ends are supposed to open up holes for the pass rushers. Haralson and Lawson were supposed to be pass rushers, but not Smith and Balmer. At least double-check your facts to maintain some credibility.

This is also why you can't give away the ones you had won (MIN, Indy)
Cause there’s no guarantee you’ll win the “easy” ones.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
History lesson
Remember why Alex Smith was benched? Too many turnovers.
What was Shaun Hills big virtue? Doesn’t turn the ball over.
We lost our best offensive lineman and started a quarterback who is highly prone to turnovers and let him cost us not just a game but the season. It’s over… we won’t win the division and won’t get in the playoffs as a wildcard, so thanks a lot.

Hill's problem was.......
He couldn’t move in the pocket, the touchdown that Smith threw to Jason Hill would have never happened with Hill in the game.
Jimmy Raye
Man I have been silent for the past few years and I am sick and tired of Jimmy Raye. I understand we are rebuilding but man I think Jimmy raye has to be the worst ever. Man how an the hell can we keep giving up the win at the half? we always start good and screw it up…. Im sure everyone will blame Alex but lets look at the play calling and his interceptions…. not intirely his fault. I could go on and on but I think Jimmy Raye has to go.
This loss was more Alex Smith than Jimmy Raye.
Smith threw the ball to late too many times.. but also Morgan doesn’t catch the ball twice.

Those passes should have been delivered low so if it is dropped it's not tipped up high

Nope
It’s on raye for not utilizing his best players. How about replacing Jason Hill in for Morgan. How about going to Crabtree? He had three catches in the first half and none in the second. How about running the ball on first down instead of passing the ball.
How is it Raye's fault
Let me count the ways? How about the fact that the 49ers had a nine minute drive and could only come up with three points? It’s his fault by putting the scrub Michael Robinson in, I don’t even know why he’s still occupying a roster spot. He sucks! He can’t return kicks, he’s never going to be a quarterback, and he’s not strong enough to be a fullback, so why the hell on first and goal would you call for a inside carry with Robinson?
Crossing up the defense. You know, the variety that fans have complained about
And it didn’t work. So what. It was a first down play. Two more plays to score. If one running play in first and goal costs the team a TD and the game then the team is not that good. That has nothing to do with the coordinator.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
It doesnt' help when you go backwards
And Robinson? You’re better off just letting Smith try to gain a few yards.
Wins at the half
Last i checked we were winning at the half against the vikes, colts, and now the titans…. we are not good enough to play conservative. We need to keep playing at full potential to keep the lead.
Here we go:
We led at the half against the Vikes due to a ST TD. The offense then had an excellent run drive for a FG then a pass heavy drive for a TD. How did Raye give it away?
Against the Colts we had four possessions the entire second half. One ended with a fumble. Two with sacks. How is that Raye’s fault?
Today we had one drive shortened due to a sack. Another due to a FS penalty. Then a great drive that came up short for a FG. Then the INTs started. How is that on Raye?
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Playing calling wasn’t that bad. Teams not there yet. I want Berry or the FS from the rams in the offseason.

I'd still rather have Smith then Hill
Hills too gunshy.
Smith is too confident in his arm.
And he thinks too much.
Pick your poison.

Smith has a good arm
and poor decision making skills. I’d rather have that then a QB with a poor arm and and good decision making skills.
You can fix the decision making—you can’t fix the arm.
Yep
And Smith still has only played 10 quarters in two years. In a new system. With a rookie WR who still lines up incorrectly. The offense is young and searching for an identity that is completely different from the one developed in training camp. I can be patient with Smith.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Nope. When a young quarterback has a bad game in his second start in two years, it’s pretty clear that he can’t improve. Sorry. He will always wait a second too long and have two passes bounce off receivers for interceptions. Every game. It’s science. Stop being a Smithpologist.
by Grant Brisbee on Nov 8, 2009 4:49 PM PST up reply actions
The interceptions were his fault.
Bruce Bochy would like you to look at the career numbers and stop complaining.
Bob Howry's #1 (and only) fan!!!
The Merkin Valdez of McCovey Chronicles!!!!!!
Because he waited a second too long. I agree. And he’ll never fix that poor timing, so we should just see what we have in Nate Davis before the draft.

Even more bad news today: Arizona has proven that they play great away and horrible at home. This takes a lot of the air out of our win against them earlier, and a poor chance of beating them in the next game.
fuck!!!!
Smith is still a B**ch were our pass D!?! We need a damn saftey who can play run n pass damn! Let nate davis play shit man n let J. Hill play more too bench jones he nevers calls a fair catch man!!!!

The first two thingies had some punctuation, but then the last grouping was a word orgy. So hawt.
But, yeah, it needs more caps.

missssteryash ??
Are you delusional in thinking this team has any promise? Have you watched the last couple games, as it has been pretty pitiful. Check the team stats tomorrow for the whole league and it will not be pretty for our team. Owners have to face reality right now that the team is bad – from management to coaching to players.
calm down. im a fan of the 49ers. i stay a fan of the 49ers. unlike you.

Fan??
As a fan, I want the team to get better and not just be ho hum with yeah team for giving a good effort. Stick to watching WNBA because you obviously have never played footbal to recognize the problems with the current play of the team. I will always root for the team but as a devoted fan I will be critical when the organization is not going in a positive direction…again.
Youre so right.
This team is undefeated within the division. They took two potential super bowl teams right down to the wire in close games. They have 2 first round picks in one of the most talent heavy drafts in years coming up….wow….the state of this franchise is terrible.
Youre comment is about ohhhhh….4 years too late.
This is a bit off I think...
Football starts with the lines, both offensive and defensive and both of ours are hodge-podge. We can’t protect a quarterback; We can’t open up holes for Frank Gore; We can’t get pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
All of the problems in secondary or with the wide-receivers start on the lines and ours suck.
The biggest mistake this organization has made in last decade was drafting Smith… drafting a QB is always a bad idea when you don’t have a line that can protect him. We should have traded the pick and built up our O-line which is the foundation of any good team.
15 carries for 83 yards......
The 49ers passed too much if you look at 15 carries for 83 yards thats 5.5 yards per carry so what are you talking about the offensive line couldn’t create holes? This is the same team that just allowed Maurice Jones-Drew to run for 178 yards, and Raye rarely looked to run the ball.
Well put...
How many years is it going to take to realize…wish we could get Holmgen to assume a Parcells in Miami type roll
Holmgren sucked at being a GM in Seattle
And his GB teams were built by Ron Wolf not him.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Didn't he get Seahawks..let me repeat..Seahawks to a SB
Someone from the Walsh lineage would be nice…
He was no longer the GM then. I think that stopped three or four years earlier
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Every year
The Niners show promise to start off, then reel out a big losing streak. I’m so tired of this.
like the NFL version of Cal :D
They call their best player "Kung Fu Panda" and they complain that people aren’t taking them or the game seriously enough? -Nick
I'll take the risk with Smith over Hill.
Gore arguably had his best game of the season and that’s due to the fact Smith keeps the defense on their heels with the threat of a pass. With Hill in, although we have no turnovers, the ball barely moves and Gore is stuffed every time.
I'll be the first to argue that.
What do you mean this was the best game of Gore’s season? He had 15 carries for 83 yards today. Against Seattle he had 16 carries for 207 yards.
Does Mike Singletary have the balls to make drastic changes in the offseason?
That means getting rid of the pitiful Raye and the equally pathetic Manusky!
Raye's playcalling wasn't the problem today.
It was execution and Smith’s turnovers.

The fact that he called for a hand off to Coffee on that 3rd and 23 or whatever it was is pretty concerning though.
As opposed to dropping back and getting sacked
So that it’s 4th and 30?
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Manusky?
The guy whose defense has not allowed any points on the opponents opening drive? That frustrated Manning? That held Favre down? That is a top-5 run D? What exactly are you looking for?
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Stop feeding the troll guys.
Rockys just kickin rocks seeing who looks his way
