Manusky and Raye should be shown the exit.....

49ers lose again because of piss poor playcalling by Raye and the most overrated defensive coordinator in football in Greg Manusky! Hello, just because the 49ers are good at stopping the run doesn’t mean they come close to doing anything else right.

Like, oh I know tackling, getting after the quarterback, forcing turnovers, etc…..Time to get rid of Manusky!

Hmmmmm could it be because Raye absolutely sucks at playcalling

How about the fact in the red zone here’s a little draw play to Michael Fucken Robinson, here’s a little dink pass to robinson again for four yards, finally making a good play on third down except Smith couldn’t deliver the ball to a wide open Gore.

Fourth down field goal time.

Play with a lead and run the ball. Let Andy Lee dominate the punt game. Let the other team try to score against your dominate defense. It’s not time to go 3/4 WR and throw the ball on 1st down and 2nd and long.

I’d say the Titans won due to Alex Smith turning the ball over four times. None of those turnovers exhibited an incredibly impressive defense by the Titans as much as poor timing and lack of football instincts by Smith.

And I would hardly call the Titans offense “conservative” today. Young gunned it down the field multiple times with success. He averaged over 8 yards per pass attempt, which is not conservative in any sense.

Sounds like

Some people are making excuses for Alex Smith. 4 turnovers. 3 int. and 1 fumble. 24 points off turnovers. Wow! Smith literally gave this game away.

And all this “Josh-Morgan-didn’t-come-back-for-the-ball” talk is horrible. Alex needs to get the ball out to his receivers quicker. Get it? I can’t elaborate here being that this thread is restricted to a few sentences only. I’ll have to come back another day and give my perspective on the whole matter. In short. Smith sucks, and his performance at Houston was exactly as I had it originally, a fluke…

Smith is an average QB who will stick around for a long time as a back up. Not a starter. The staff needs to take a good long look at college QBs entering the draft next year. He had good protection from the line today; he just waits to make his throws, and that is all the defense needs to make a play.

Manusky wouldn’t know what to do with them. Wasn’t Justin Smith supposed to be that? Wasn’t Paryls Harralson supposed to be that? How about Kentwan Balmer? How are those players working out? Manny Lawson was also supposed to be a pass rusher too.

Manusky doesn’t have pass rusher in his vocabulary.

pass rush

Do you know how a 3-4 operates? Justin Smith and Kentwan Balmer are not brought in to be pass rushers. In the 3-4 defensive ends are supposed to open up holes for the pass rushers. actually since the regular season runs into January this year he was technicly right. Look at the last game against the rams.

I am refering to his remarks last year about the last season going home in December. So his statement actually gave us two years to get into the playoffs.

Simple truth

You can’t win with that many turnovers, no matter who calls plays. It’s also two weeks in a row where we did not force a TO after forcing at leas on one in each game.

You gotta bring ass to get ass.

by SpurredOn on Nov 8, 2009 4:39 PM PST reply actions

He's not going to change

I don’t know why they keep giving him chances. He’s improved slightly but I just don’t see him ever being a winning QB

by MrHorrible on Nov 8, 2009 4:42 PM PST up reply actions

This is also why you can't give away the ones you had won (MIN, Indy)

Cause there’s no guarantee you’ll win the “easy” ones.

History lesson

Remember why Alex Smith was benched? Too many turnovers.

What was Shaun Hills big virtue? Doesn’t turn the ball over.

We lost our best offensive lineman and started a quarterback who is highly prone to turnovers and let him cost us not just a game but the season. It’s over… we won’t win the division and won’t get in the playoffs as a wildcard, so thanks a lot.

Hill's problem was.......

He couldn’t move in the pocket, the touchdown that Smith threw to Jason Hill would have never happened with Hill in the game.

Jimmy Raye

Man I have been silent for the past few years and I am sick and tired of Jimmy Raye. I understand we are rebuilding but man I think Jimmy raye has to be the worst ever. Man how an the hell can we keep giving up the win at the half? we always start good and screw it up…. Im sure everyone will blame Alex but lets look at the play calling and his interceptions…. not intirely his fault. I could go on and on but I think Jimmy Raye has to go.

by Quiet Fan on Nov 8, 2009 4:43 PM PST reply actions

This loss was more Alex Smith than Jimmy Raye.

Smith threw the ball to late too many times.. but also Morgan doesn’t catch the ball twice.

by Eastbayjim on Nov 8, 2009 4:47 PM PST up reply actions

Nope

It’s on raye for not utilizing his best players. How about replacing Jason Hill in for Morgan. How about going to Crabtree? He had three catches in the first half and none in the second. How about running the ball on first down instead of passing the ball.

by Rocky63215 on Nov 8, 2009 4:55 PM PST up reply actions

How is it Raye's fault?

Giving up what wins at the half?

You gotta bring ass to get ass.

by SpurredOn on Nov 8, 2009 4:44 PM PST up reply actions

How is it Raye's fault

Let me count the ways? How about the fact that the 49ers had a nine minute drive and could only come up with three points? It’s his fault by putting the scrub Michael Robinson in, I don’t even know why he’s still occupying a roster spot. He sucks! He can’t return kicks, he’s never going to be a quarterback, and he’s not strong enough to be a fullback, so why the hell on first and goal would you call for a inside carry with Robinson?

by Rocky63215 on Nov 8, 2009 4:51 PM PST up reply actions

Crossing up the defense. You know, the variety that fans have complained about

And it didn’t work. So what. It was a first down play. Two more plays to score. If one running play in first and goal costs the team a TD and the game then the team is not that good. That has nothing to do with the coordinator.

You gotta bring ass to get ass.

by SpurredOn on Nov 8, 2009 4:53 PM PST up reply actions

It doesnt' help when you go backwards

And Robinson? You’re better off just letting Smith try to gain a few yards.

Wins at the half

Last i checked we were winning at the half against the vikes, colts, and now the titans…. we are not good enough to play conservative. We need to keep playing at full potential to keep the lead.

by Quiet Fan on Nov 8, 2009 5:00 PM PST up reply actions

Here we go:

We led at the half against the Vikes due to a ST TD. The offense then had an excellent run drive for a FG then a pass heavy drive for a TD. How did Raye give it away?

Against the Colts we had four possessions the entire second half. One ended with a fumble. Two with sacks. How is that Raye’s fault?

Today we had one drive shortened due to a sack. Another due to a FS penalty. Then a great drive that came up short for a FG. Then the INTs started. How is that on Raye?

You gotta bring ass to get ass.

Smith has a good arm

and poor decision making skills. I’d rather have that then a QB with a poor arm and and good decision making skills.

You can fix the decision making—you can’t fix the arm.

by smileyman on Nov 8, 2009 4:45 PM PST up reply actions

Yep

And Smith still has only played 10 quarters in two years. In a new system. With a rookie WR who still lines up incorrectly. The offense is young and searching for an identity that is completely different from the one developed in training camp. I can be patient with Smith.

You gotta bring ass to get ass.

by SpurredOn on Nov 8, 2009 4:48 PM PST up reply actions

Nope. When a young quarterback has a bad game in his second start in two years, it’s pretty clear that he can’t improve. Sorry. He will always wait a second too long and have two passes bounce off receivers for interceptions. Every game. It’s science. Stop being a Smithpologist.

by Grant Brisbee on Nov 8, 2009 4:49 PM PST up reply actions

The interceptions were his fault.

Even more bad news today: Arizona has proven that they play great away and horrible at home. This takes a lot of the air out of our win against them earlier, and a poor chance of beating them in the next game.

Are you delusional in thinking this team has any promise? Have you watched the last couple games, as it has been pretty pitiful. Check the team stats tomorrow for the whole league and it will not be pretty for our team. Owners have to face reality right now that the team is bad – from management to coaching to players.

As a fan, I want the team to get better and not just be ho hum with yeah team for giving a good effort. Stick to watching WNBA because you obviously have never played footbal to recognize the problems with the current play of the team. I will always root for the team but as a devoted fan I will be critical when the organization is not going in a positive direction…again.

by 9erfan4vr on Nov 8, 2009 4:56 PM PST up reply actions

Youre so right.

This team is undefeated within the division. They took two potential super bowl teams right down to the wire in close games. They have 2 first round picks in one of the most talent heavy drafts in years coming up….wow….the state of this franchise is terrible.

Youre comment is about ohhhhh….4 years too late.

by Beatclash on Nov 8, 2009 4:50 PM PST up reply actions

This is a bit off I think...

Football starts with the lines, both offensive and defensive and both of ours are hodge-podge. We can’t protect a quarterback; We can’t open up holes for Frank Gore; We can’t get pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

All of the problems in secondary or with the wide-receivers start on the lines and ours suck.

The biggest mistake this organization has made in last decade was drafting Smith… drafting a QB is always a bad idea when you don’t have a line that can protect him. We should have traded the pick and built up our O-line which is the foundation of any good team.

by Delmuir on Nov 8, 2009 4:52 PM PST up reply actions

15 carries for 83 yards......

The 49ers passed too much if you look at 15 carries for 83 yards thats 5.5 yards per carry so what are you talking about the offensive line couldn’t create holes? This is the same team that just allowed Maurice Jones-Drew to run for 178 yards, and Raye rarely looked to run the ball.

I'll take the risk with Smith over Hill.

Gore arguably had his best game of the season and that’s due to the fact Smith keeps the defense on their heels with the threat of a pass. With Hill in, although we have no turnovers, the ball barely moves and Gore is stuffed every time.

by we want foyle on Nov 8, 2009 4:48 PM PST reply actions

I'll be the first to argue that.

What do you mean this was the best game of Gore’s season? He had 15 carries for 83 yards today. Against Seattle he had 16 carries for 207 yards.
