Thursday Night: Season on the Line
Thursday night Football. Primetime. The only NFL game on. Chicago Bears at San Francisco 49ers. 4-4 at 3-5. This might be our last opportunity to make the playoffs and stay within the division. Seattle plays at Arizona, and if we lose, it's all bad for whoever wins that game between those two. Without a doubt, we HAVE to, no wait NEED to win this game at home in primetime. This is where Singletary will be tested, just like Coughlin is being tested after 4 straight losses. Gather the troops, make them work hard, play hard, and prepare like you never have before. 4-5 is what I need to see to start off my weekend Friday morning. 3-6 and say hello to another January(after the 3rd) Niner-less. Chicago won't be easy, as they'll be hungry after being thwarted by the Cardinals. Niners, time to shine and get our season back on track. Let's do this
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

Definitely a must win
This loss today wipes out Arizona loss to Carolina last week. Back to where we were two weeks ago. We still have a chance, but there isn’t much breathing room anymore.

Exactly
This loss hurts (although notice that Tenn has been a different team in the last two weeks than they were early in the season) but it’s not the end of the world. We just gave the Cards back their breathing room.

As Singletary would say
They’re all “must-win-games”

Yup. They're all "must-wins."
But I would definitely like to see him get a win against the bears. :D

Feeds
I emailed a contact I have with the NFL to see what other options will be available. However, folks can’t use FanPosts to find illegal streams of the games.

I'm pretty sure that it will be broadcast over the intenet.
I cannot remember where I read this, but I think that it will be shown online much like the NBC primetime games. I’m going to look into it some more.

You guys have my vote of confidence
I, admittedly, hate the Chicago Bears mostly because I love the Minnesota Vikings. However, I really do think you guys are going to win this game and win it big. Their defense is insert strong negative word of choice here. I mean that — they cannot stop anybody. Also, Patrick Willis and the 49ers defense should have a hay day against this O-line, Forte and Cutler.
Good luck to you guys – I really hope you guys pull this one out!

Bottom Line: There are eight games to go and we are two games back
We play AZ once. That’s a real must win.
Assuming we win that one, we have to win one more game out of the next eight than AZ.
AZ faces STL twice and DET once. I can’t see them losing those games. AZ also faces SEA, TEN, MIN, and GB. Realistically, you have to assume AZ wins at least one of those games.
So, if AZ goes 4-4, we need to go 6-2, with one of the wins coming against AZ. Let assume we can beat STL and DET in our final two games. That means we need to go 4-2 in the next six at a minimum. Note that we play @PHI and @GB in the next few weeks, which will be very tough games to win.
In short we have almost no margin for error. AZ has a bunch of cupcakes in front of them and a two game division lead. If we don’t win Thursday our chances of making the playoffs are almost nil. At that point we would need to go 6-1 in our next seven games just to have a chance, which strikes me as really unlikely from a 3-5 team.

A very big assumption at this point.
The future ain't what it used to be.

I’d say at least two is most likely and they’ve got a decent shot at winning 3. I’m going to assume they go at least 5-3 the rest of the way, meaning the Niners must win every game but 1. If they go 4-4 that’s a huge help though. But basically the Niners need to win out, they’ve probably only got 1 loss to play with.

If Detroit can put together two consecutive halves of football
they can beat AZ.
Problem is they only play one half of football a game.
by smileyman on Nov 9, 2009 4:58 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
They're not any more likely to beat the Cards than the Niners
So I don’t see how that would help anyway.

6-2 seems unlikely from a 3-5 team
Without some major (positive) changes in either play-calling or execution. As I have thought all season…. we are still re-building.

This is going to end up just like last year.
If the 9ers can finally put up a few wins, then it will all come down to Monday Night Football against the Cards.

there are no "must win" games in a rebuilding year
This is a rebuilding year.
Young players.
Offense that has never played together.
Rebuilding year.

So youre saying...
that they need to be older players who have played together for a long time? Every game is a must win no matter what state your franchise is in.

It's not like we suck or anything
We’re doing everything right, we just have to FINISH. I don’t care we should have won against Indy because we took control of that game and should have won against Tennesse. 4 quarters of football, not 3. And once we get a win, we’re going to roll. Next 2 games are tough. Need to win at home vs the Bears and a big win needed at Green Bay.

I agree
That is how we beat the cardinals week 1. We finished the game. We made them go into 2 minute offense and we stopped them.
Go 49ers
