Week 9 Prediction Games: The Resulting Results
Scene: Saturday, lunchwise: howtheyscored and that shrewd and knavish sprite, groug, standing alone. They had been talking about football like normal people, but suddenly they start talking like crazy people about Oberon knows what.
howtheyscored
About the games go swifter than a punt,
And Kyle Orton of the Bears look thou hunt:
All fancy-sick he is, and full of pep
With wins and wins, that cost the pundits' rep.
By some illusion see thou bring him here:
I'll charm his eyes against defenders who appear.
groug
I go, I go; look how I go;
Swift as the flight of a Drew Brees throw. [Exit groug]
howtheyscored
Lint fluff of this yellow towel,
Hit with accuracy foul,
Sink in apple of his eye.
When the safety he doth espy,
Lo, the games this week are mine
By which count sabotage is fine.
To let groug score once, by and by,
Is a simple charity.
[Re-Enter groug]
groug
Captain of our hairy band,
Kyle Orton is here at hand,
And the tool, was watching film,
Hoping for a winner's helm.
With that, shall this week's games we see?
[groug takes a quick look at all of your predictions]
groug
Lord, what fools these mortals be!
howtheyscored (To Himself)
Them and you, the noise you'll make
When 15 points this week I take!
Scene: Monday, nightwise: howtheyscored and groug reconvene, again alone.
groug
LOL howtheyscored.
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHHAHAH GOOD PLAN JERK.
howtheyscored
You suck.
You thankless puck.

So, ummm... I'm not sure what all that above was. Shakespeare scholars assert that howtheyscored was so confident about his predictions going into Sunday that he struck a deal with the heretofore hapless groug, such that they would sabotage the eyes of Kyle Orton and allow groug the advantage of points in the one particular game. Unbeknownst to howtheyscored, leading scholars say, groug was pulling the ol' one-two. While he was away, fetching Orton, he in fact went around the rest of the league and rigged all of the other games, before bringing Orton to howtheyscored as though nothing had happened. Then he called me a fool.
Sadly, it's true. Not the iambic babbletameter. The fool part. I was a fool. As were many of you. Not groug, though. He took full advantage. I think he probably had the best week. I'm not going to make sure I'm right about that. It just seems fairly obvious.
Then cassusriff and jpgarfunkle moved forward. The top is getting more and more interesting by the week, and I believe we actually have our first tie for first of the season (big ups to PHUT! for that).
And how about nacho49 nailing that Steelers prediction? Good for you! Puts you square in the top 20, looking to strike.
I think Ninerfromacrossthepond, RBoogy29, and danknerd49 also had good weeks.
Kudos to me and ro128487 for laying big fat eggs (his bigger than mine this week).
I'm going to hurry this up because I know Fooch will be posting the new games tonight and I don't want to be too late on this one. Congrats all! Let's finish strong over the last half of the year!
And check your darned scores.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

For some reason this thing won’t take me seriously when I tell it what words I want italicized and what words I don’t want italicized. I even know why it’s doing it. I’m just too lazy to play with the code.
Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.

Yippie, I got a zero
The only winner I even picked was MNF. I didn’t even fall back from by a single point from the leader.
I debated picking the Titans all week because I had a strong feeling the 49ers offense would screw it up. Ya, why pass when you can run just enough and the other team isn’t capable of scoring over 14 points on their own . . . that’s the last of my homer give them the benefit of the doubt picks. Shame on Sing and Raye for listening to this mob.

Sadly so did I
I only picked 2 winners and I was too far out to score any points. Oh well, I was bound to have a bad week eventually.
Don't trust this guy. He lies.

only 1 winner here but at least I got points.
by hudd07 on Nov 10, 2009 12:02 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
only picked two correctly
missed the scores by quite a bit and still managed to get points from both games. What a strange week.

Did you add the FG to your MNF winner's points this week?
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
by SpurredOn on Nov 10, 2009 12:08 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I did
Instead of the losing team adding another FG in the final two minutes the winning team added a TD after an INT. That’s the problem with the Steelers, that defense always seems to add an extra TD just at the end.

Stick with that philosophy
That added FG will happen again.

I think you may have missed points for me on the SD @ NY game…

Don't mean to burst your bubble
But you have to pick the winner correctly to qualify for points.

for some reason I just thought it was points

No worries
I have been playing on and off and just this week learned that. I have just been picking scores and if I get points, great, if not, oh well. Total trust in howtheyscored.

That was fun for me. I’m glad to see looking back that it wasn’t complete gibberish.

A hearty thank you to Rich Aurilia for all the good memories, and to the Niners for finally getting the uni's (mostly) right.

I think the jerks who picked against the Niners should be banned
They are NOT TRUE FANS.

Ha!
I picked up eight points on the #1 spot this weekend. Two more weeks like this and I’ll be golden. Golden I say!

well...
nobody could have done worse than me this week, no points and only picked one winner, but at least I’m still in first
by ro128487 on Nov 11, 2009 5:56 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
I've had...
… at least two of those kind of weeks so far this season. Up until last week, I think I had three consecutive weeks of less than 5 points scored. Not a good thing when you want to stay in the top 10.
