Seahawks 20, Niners 17 play-by-play

Well that game stunk to high heaven. A heartbreaking loss that just about eliminates us from any kind of playoff hopes. Arizona would have to go into a complete tailspin and we'd have to have a couple of miracles to be able to make it to the playoffs. Lots of things to talk about during the game, so without further adieu here is the play-by-play.

Rec this up so it can stay up until next week's play-by-play so people don't miss out on seeing this.

Join me after the jump.

1st Drive
1st play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. UC. Davis down rightWalker down left, Morgan inside left, Crabtree far left. Walker in motion to far right. Quick slant to Crabtree, incomplete. Bad pass--thrown behind Crabtree.

2nd play (2nd and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. Morgan on rigth side. Davis insde left, then Walker. Crabtree far left. Incomplete to Crabtree. Overthrown.

3rd play (3rd and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. Crabtree far right. Davis inside left, Walker, Morgan. Checkdown pass to Gore for 6 yards

2nd Drive
1st play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. MOrgan far right, Walker inside right, Davis off RT. Crabtree far left. Davis in motion to center and back to RT. Run to right for 4 yards.

2nd play (2nd and 6)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. UC. Crabtree far left, Morgan inside left. Davis down off RT, Walker down next to Davis. Gore off RT for 1 yard. Walker makes a poor choice here for blocking. He goes after the outside CB, whom he doesn't even touch, allowing the SS to come up and make the tackle. If he goes to the next level after the SS Gore might end up with 4 or 5 (or more) instead of 1. This even with the poor blocking of Rachal.

3rd play (3rd and 5)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. Crabtree far left. Davis, Walker, Morgan on right side in "bunch" formation.Davis in motion to center and back. 6 yard pass to Morgan on crossing route

4th play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. Davis, Walker, Crabtree right in "bunch" formation. Morgan far left. Incomplete TD pass to VD.

5th play (2nd and goal)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. Davis down on right side, Morgan far right. Walker inside left, Crabtree far left. Morgan in motion to left, Walker in motion to right. Pass to Morgan for 8 yards.

6th play (3rd and goal)--2 TE, 1 WR, 1 RB, 1 FB. UC. Davis down off RT, Walker down next to him. Norris whifs on his block, forcing Alex to throw it before Gore is turned around. I don't like this call. I would've loved to have seen a toss left on this play. Regardless had Norris made his block, it's probably complete for a TD.

Coach Sing decides to go for it here (I like going for it on 4th and 1), but Alex has to call a time out.

7th play (4th and goal)--2 TE, 1 RB, 1 FB, 1 Tackle eligible. UC. Incomplete pass to Walker who was held by the LB and still had a chance to catch the ball.

3rd drive
1st play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 1 RB, 1 FB. UC. Davis down on right side, Walker next to him. Walker goes in motion to center and back out. Incomplete pass to VD--who let it in and out of his hands.

2nd play (2nd and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB, SG. Davis down on left side. Walker inside right, then Morgan, then Crabtree. Walker in motion to center and back. Complete to Morgan for 8 yards.

3rd play (3rd and 2)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. Crabtree far right. Davis inside left, Walker slot, Morgan far left. Davis in motion to center and back. Complete to Walker for about 6 yards but called back for PI on Davis.

4th play (3rd and 12)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB. SG. Davis down on left. Morgan inside right, Crabtree far right, Hill far left. Complete to Crabtree for 11 yards. This was a really bad spot by the officials. Crabtree was clearly behond the 1st down marker when he caught the ball. Sing burns a timeout here to discuss the play. He should've thrown a challenge flag on this one instead--that still gives them time to look at the play again and if it's successful they preserve a time out. Bad tactics.

5th play (4th and 1)--2 TE, 1 RB, 1 FB, 1WR. UC. Walker down on left, Crabtree far left. Davis down on right. Walker in motion to right side. I really like this call. Fake the hand off, leave everyoen there to block, send Davis out on a route. Crabtree comes across the middle as well so everybody is on the right side of the line. Pass to Davis for 33 yards and a TD. At this point we should be up 14-0 instead of 7-0.

4th Drive
1st play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 1 RB, 2 WR. UC. Walker down on left, Davis down on right. Morgan far right, Crabtree far left. Complete to Davis for 7 yards.

2nd play (2nd and 3)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. UC. Davis down off LT, Walker down next to him. Morgan far left, Crabtree far right. Morgan in motion to inside right. Pass to Crabtree for 9 yards.

3rd play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 B. UC. Davis down on left. Walker down next to him. Crabtree far left, Morgan far right. Pass complete to Walker for 18 yards, who did a great job with YAC.

4th play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. Crabtree far right. Davis down on left, Walker inside left, Morgan far left. Davis in motion to center and back. Run to right for 6 yards.

5th play (2nd and 4)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. UC. Davis inside left. Morgan slot, Crabtree far left. Walker right. Davis in motion to right side. Incomplete to Morgan--who should have caught it.

6th play (3rd and 4)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB. SG. Davis inside right, Hill far right, Morgan inside left, Crabtree far left. Incomplete to Crabtree--ball thrown too high.

5th Drive
1st play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. Davis inside left, Walker slot, Morgan far left. Crabtree far right. Screen to Gore for 7 yards.

2nd play (2nd and 3)-2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. Same formation as above. Pass to Walker for 6 yards.

3rd play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. Walker inside right, Davis slot, Morgan far right. Crabtree far left. Beautiful 42 yard pass to Vernon Davis

4th play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 1 WR, 1 RB, 1 FB. UC. Davis inside left, Walker slot, Gore far left. Morgan far right. Smith pumpfakes left and throws a 22 yardTD pass. Really good route by Morgan too.

7th Drive
1st play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 1 WR, 1 FB. UC. Walker inside right, Davis far right, Morgan far left. Davis in motion to inside left. Run to the right for 3 yards.

2nd play (2nd and 7)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. Gore inside left, Morgan far left. Crabtree inside left, Davis slot, Walker far left. Seattle blitz, quick throw to Walker for 4 yards.

3rd play (3rd and 3)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB. SG. Morgan far right. Davis, Crabtree, Jones on left in "bunch" formation. Incomplete to Crabtree. Lots of pressure--had to throw early.

8th Drive
1st play (1st and 10)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1RB. SG. Crabtree far right. Davis inside left. Morgan slot, Jones far left. Incomplete pass to Gore

2nd play (2nd and 10)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB. SG. Crabtree far left, Morgan inside left. Davis inside right. Jones far right. Pass incomplete to Gore who bobbled it--would have been for no gain anyway.

3rd play (3rd and 10)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB. SG. Crabtree far left. Davis inside right, Morgan slot. Jones far right. Quick pass to Morgan for 6 yards.

9th Drive
1st play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG Walker far left, Morgan insde left, Davis next to tackle. Crabtree far right. Morgan in motion to center then back behind Davis. Complete to Davis for 5 yards.

2nd play (2nd and 5)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG Crabtree far right. Morgan far left. Walker off LOS next to LT, Davis slot. Alex sacked. Snyder's guy blew past him putting pressure on Alex who steps up into the pocket, only there was no pocket because Rachal was being pushed right into him. Loss of 7 yards.

3rd play (3rd and 12)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. UC Hill far left. Davis inside left. Walker down off RT. Morgan far right. Fake hand off to Gore, Attempted screen to Gore, incomplete. The timing on this one was blown up from the start. Snyder couldn't hold off his man who put almost immediate pressure on Alex forcing him to scramble. By the time he got to where he could dump it off, the screen was busted.

10th Drive
1st play (1st and10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. UC Crabtree far left. Walker and Davis down off LT. Morgan far right. False start on Sims

2nd play (1st and 12)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. UC Crabtree far right. Davis down off RT. Walker down off LT. Morgan far left. This is why we need a speedy cutback RB. There was room on the outside if Gore could reach it, also a lane on the left. Gore had already picked where he was going and was headed straight for it. Loss of 1 yard.

3rd play (2nd and 13)--2 TE, 1 WR, 1 RB, 1FB. UC. Morgan far left. Davis and Walker down on right side. Obviosly a run situation--Sehawks have 9 players lined up in the box on this one. Hand off to Gore for 1yard. There's already a mismatch here when we've got 8 offensive players trying to block 9 defensive players.

4th play (3rd and 12)--Same formation as above only reversed. Again the Seahawks read this as a run. More successful this time for 4 yard gain.

11th Drive
1st play (1st and 10)--1 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB, 1 FB. UC. Crabtree far left, Morgan inside left. Davis down on right side. Pass to Crabtree for 20 yards. Incredible blocking by the line, especially Heitman who ends up blocking 2 players by himself while Baas is looking at a ghost and Rachal is on the ground.

17heitman_medium

2nd play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. Crabtree far right, Davis inside right. Morgan inside left, Walker far left. Pressure comes. Alex scrambles and Rachal lets his guy get the first hit, then jogs out like he's going to try and hit a CB. 1 yd gain

3rd play (2nd and 9)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. Morgan far right, Walker slot, Davis inside right. Crabtree far left. Davis in motion to center and back out. End around to Walker who is hit a yard behind the LOS but still manages to get 7 yards out of it. Ticky tack call on Crabtree costs us 10 yards in penalties.

4th play (2nd and 12)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. Crabtree far right, Walker inside right. Davis inside left, Morgan far left. Quick out to Crabtree for -3 yards.

5th play (3rd and 15)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB. SG. Crabtree far right, Davis down on left. Morgan inside left, Jones far left. Decent protection, nobody open, so Alex had to throw it away.

12th Drive
1st play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. UC. Crabtree far right. Davis and Walker down on left, Morgan far left. Gore for 3 yards off left.

2nd play (2nd and 7)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG. Davis, Walker, Morgan on left side. Gore and Crabtree on right side. Incomplete to Crabtree who was being tackled before the ball even got to him.

3rd play (3rd and 7)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB. SG. Quick pass to Morgan for 6 yards. Pass was underthrown so Morgan had to comeback for it.

13th Drive
1st play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 1 WR, 1 RB, 1 FB. UC Morgan far right, Walker inside right. Davis far left. Walker in motion to left side. Pass to Davis for 7 yards. Alex is hurried as Norris whiffs on a block.

2nd play (2nd and 3)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG Morgan far right, Walker slot, Crabtree inside right. Davis out left. Complete to Davis for 22 yards. Gore makes a beautiful block on the blitz pick-up.

3rd play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG Crabtree far right, Morgan slot, Walker inside right, Davis down on left. Walker in motion to tackle and back out. Pass to Crabtree for 17 yards.

4th play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG Crabtree far left, Walker inside left. Davis down on right, Morgan far right. Reverse to Morgan for 20 yards. We were lucky that didn't get busted up as it developed slowly.

5th play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. SG Davis down on right side, Morgan slot, Crabtree far right. Walker inside left, Gore far left. Blitz comes, Alex dumps it to Gore who runs for 11 yards. Beautiful looking drive so far. We're moving at will on a drive that started at our own 2 yard line.

6th play (1st and 10)--2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB. UC Davis and Walker down on right side, Hill far right, Crabtree far left. Gore goes for 4 yards and then the ball is knocked loose and run back for 43 yards.

14th Drive
1st play (1st and 10)--1 TE, 3 wR, 1 RB. SG Davis inside right, Morgan far right. Crabtree inside left, Hill far left. Complete to Crabtree for 6 yards.

2nd play (2nd and 4)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB. SG. Jones far left, Davis inside left, Morgan inside right, Crabtree far right. Complete to Jones for 6 yards. Jones was called for PI on a really bad call. He barely touched the defender, and the contact was within 5 yards so it shouldn't have mattered anyway. Horrible call.

3rd play (2nd and 14)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB. SG. Jones far right, Morgan slot, Davis next to tackle. Crabtree far left. Complete to Jones for 18 yards.

5th play (1st and 10)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB. SG. Crabtree far right. Hill far left, Davis slot, Morgan inside left. Morgan in motion to center and back. Incomplete to Crabtree. PI for 28 yards.

6th play (1st and 10)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB. SG. Jones far right, Morgan slot, Davis inside right. Crabtree inside left, Gore far left. Complete to Gore for 6 yards.

7th play (2nd and 4)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB SG. Jones far right, Morgan slot, Davis inside right. Crabtree far left. Pass incomplete to Davis who drops a sure-fire TD. Davis would be around 15 TDs right now if he hung to every one that came his way.

19davistddrop_medium

8th play (3rd and 4)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB SG. Davis down on left, Morgan far left, Crabtree inside right, Jones far right. Morgan in motion to right side. Incomplete to Crabtree.

15th Drive
1st play (1st and 10)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB SG. Crabtree far left, Davis inside right, Morgan slot, Hill far right. Screen to Gore for 7 yards.

2nd play (2nd and 3)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB SG. Crabtree far right, Morgan inside right. Davis inside left, Hill far left. Incomplete to Hill.

3rd play (3rd and 3)--1 TE, 3 WR, 1 RB SG. Crabtree far left, Davis inside right, Morgan slot, Hill far right. Incomplete pass to Morgan. Bad decision on Alex's part. Morgan was covered tightly, and there was a defender up top, so even if Morgan can get to the ball the defender is there first. Also a lousy call by Raye. In fact this is the only call that I have reall issues with this entire game. On 3rd and 3 with the game and the season riding on getting a first down it's ok to be a little conservative. You do have time outs to use, so run for it or throw a quick checkdown to Gore.

Some thoughts

1. Because it can't be said enough--this officiating stunk. Lots of non-calls on the Seahawks. Their O-line was holding throughout the game, their defense was holding on to our receivers. That non-call on Walker was the worst of the bunch. The PI on Brandon Jones was also pathetic.

2. Special Teams suck. Fooch already talked about this, but it bears repeating. I would not be opposed to sending 10 men to block a punt and just leaving one man back to field it and tell him to catch it and call fair catch. We'd certainly do better than we're doing now. The punt reverse was beign set up from the first punt. Jones took the blame on this one but it was Battle who stumbled, throwing off the timing and bobbling the handoff a bit.

3. Josh Morgan is turning into a really reliable player for us. He's developing as a WR and I love him on KR. That being said he still needs to work on route running.

4. Dropsies again. I actually don't think it was as bad this game as it was last week, except for VD who let a sure-fire TD slip through his hands. We get that and we win the game instead of losing and maybe still have a shot at the playoffs.

5. Gore. I love Frank, I really do but he needs some help. He looks worn out by the end of the game and I have to think it's because we're using him as a receiver so much. He's missing cuts and his legs just don't look as powerful as they do. That fumble cost us 3 points for sure, because the Hawks scored on it. If he keeps it we get a FG at the minimum.

However, Gore is still having a decent year. He has 668 yards rushing on the year in 9 games. Average that out for a full 16 game season and he's at 1184 yards on the year, his second best total.

6. Both teams had horrible 3rd quarters

7. Delanie Walker got hurt at the end of the 3rd and was out for the 4th. I think that had a big impact on our offense.

8. Alex can throw from under center. Both TD catches came from under center. He was 6/13 from under center, so only slightly worse than from the SG. Keep in mind that most of the dropped balls came when he was under center so that affects the rating. I have to think he throws it differently based on if he's UC or in SG

9. This team is still a much better team than last year's. At this point last year we were 3-9. This year we're 5-7. Last year we were outscored 350 to 262. This year we've actually outscored our opponents 245 to 230. This year 6 of our 7 losses have come by one TD or less. Last year at this point only one of our losses was within a TD.
