49ers-Cardinals Game Thread #2.5
This is the third thread for tonight's 49ers-Cardinals game. This is the fourth-quarter edition. I wouldn't mind getting some insurance points here. How about you?
Especially since the Cardinals just scored.
(YES! BLOCK EXTRA POINT! TAKE THAT, ONE POSSESSION GAME!)

A hearty thank you to Rich Aurilia for all the good memories, and to the Niners for finally getting the uni's (mostly) right.
running it on 1st and 2nd down
has really been serving them well this half…definitely

LOL ME
I didn’t realize Fooch had the gamethreads scheduled tonight. His gamethread # 3 just went live.

Take your pick, I guess. I can delete mine. I can’t delete his. So it’s probably better to use his.

So why were they passing in the last two drives?

Same reason they were passing all first half.

But that wasn’t going particularly well either.

Smith wasn’t an accuracy king, but wasn’t going all that poorly either.
I don't know about that, to the groin.
by howtheyscored on Dec 14, 2009 8:24 PM PST up reply actions
He was missing every pass, and when turning the ball over is the worst case scenario you don’t want a quarterback who misses every pass throwing at a very aggressive defense when the running back is playing so well.
Bruce Bochy would like you to look at the career numbers and stop complaining.

The Merkin Valdez of McCovey Chronicles!!!!!!
He was missing on a lot of passes, but except for one throw he really was keeping it out of traffic.
I don't know about that, to the groin.
by howtheyscored on Dec 14, 2009 8:27 PM PST up reply actions
I mean, I’m not arguing that he was making poor throws. But his decisions were pretty solid all around. I don’t think that with the decisions he’s been making that he’s that much of a risk for another turnover.
I don't know about that, to the groin.
by howtheyscored on Dec 14, 2009 8:28 PM PST up reply actions
But there was a dropped interception of the drive right after that. This is what happens with Smith.

Smith, who hadn’t thrown an INT in two games, even though he threw the ball 86 times?
I don't know about that, to the groin.

You’re going to value those two games over all the other games in his career?
Bruce Bochy would like you to look at the career numbers and stop complaining.
Bob Howry's #1 (and only) fan!!!
The Merkin Valdez of McCovey Chronicles!!!!!!
Not specifically. But I also don’t think it’s fair to value his entire career over his whole season thusfar (which has been very good in terms of turnovers) considering the circumstances of that career.
I don't know about that, to the groin.
by howtheyscored on Dec 14, 2009 8:34 PM PST up reply actions
I just think when the defense has no answer for your running back and your QB has been off all day, you don’t risk it.
Bruce Bochy would like you to look at the career numbers and stop complaining.

The Merkin Valdez of McCovey Chronicles!!!!!!
I don’t think that’s necessarily wrong. I’m against putting the pass away entirely. I just don’t think that the “This is what Smith does” argument is a particularly good one. The “he’s been off all day” argument is much better, at least.
I don't know about that, to the groin.

because
running on every down worked sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo well in the Ind game.

Just keep reversing until you get in the end zone. If it takes five or more reverses, do it.

Gore's run was much better than

cornerback that can return punts should be taken somewhere round 1-4

So he's going to wait for Oakland to take him next offseason? That's smart.
"It came down like a punt, Coach!" - Josh Morgan
Probably too many QBs coming out
even though I think he’d be the first taken, there is no guarantee
Gimme 1 round!
by ItBurnzWhenIP on Dec 14, 2009 8:34 PM PST up reply actions
Quite the opposite, actually.
Very thin QB class this year, and he is without doubt #1 or #2 QB taken.
"It came down like a punt, Coach!" - Josh Morgan
With Clausen and Bradford?
He could slip to the 3rd taken very easily. And what if somebody values Pike higher? He falls to the end of the 1st round.
Gimme 1 round!
by ItBurnzWhenIP on Dec 14, 2009 8:37 PM PST up reply actions
Clausen is the only challenge for the throne. No one will take Bradford ahead of those other two guys coming off of his shoulder injury, and Tony Pike is a couple years (and a couple hundred cheeseburgers) away from being NFL-ready.
"It came down like a punt, Coach!" - Josh Morgan
Well I'd take him first
But you never know. Its pretty much guaranteed he goes #1 next year.
Gimme 1 round!

I guess he thinks he needs more work to be the number one QP in the draft. And if it doesn’t work out, he still has that baseball contract to fall back on.

by howtheyscored on Dec 14, 2009 8:38 PM PST up reply actions
I know his team sucks, but his completion% is really low and he only has one full year playing at anything near a competitive level. He played well against a couple of good teams, but he’s looked like crap a lot, too.
To my mind, he’s overrated.
I don't know about that, to the groin.

the two names in that statement are pretty much interchangable.

I do
But the guy i’m playing against scored over 200 points. And I didn’t check back to take Harvin off my roster and place Bush in his place. So I got scorched anyways

I'm sorry to break it to everybody:
But I’m pretty sure we lost this game. I mean, Alex Smith is a loser. Therefore, we lost. Don’t shoot me, though. I’m just the messenger.
