49ers-Eagles game time changed to 1:15pm pacific
The NFL announced they're switching the time for the 49ers-Eagles game to 1:15pm pacific time because of the weather. According to the league, because of the threat of a major snowstorm:
In anticipation of the storm and as a public safety concern, the change was made to accommodate fans and allow more time for city and stadium personnel to clear streets and walkways in and around the stadium.
The game will be televised on FOX as originally scheduled.
Plan accordingly.

Raiders game is at 1 pm pacific as well
(here in the bay) will they show both games at the same time? Because that never happens at all. Niners game better not be changed…
It's actually not allowed by NFL rules...
Here’s the relevant section from Wikipedia
The 49ers and Raiders are usually not scheduled at the same time, though this can mean one of those teams will play a road game at 10:00 a.m. PT. To alleviate the conflicts, the 49ers and/or Raiders will typically be scheduled for additional primetime game(s), regardless of their records during the previous season.16
- The 49ers or Raiders must have at least one primetime game under current television rules, in order to circumvent the television blackout schedule.
-The Raiders’ two interconference home games (i.e., with a visiting NFC team) are televised by Fox (unless they are primetime). These games must be 4 p.m. ET (“late”) games, as they are played on the west coast. By rule, the 49ers can not play a 4 p.m. ET (“late”) game at the same time on CBS or Fox. Nor can they play a 1 p.m. ET (“early”) game on Fox when the
Raiders are at home on Fox when Fox has the singleheader game.
-The only window that would be available for the 49ers in that situation would be a 1 p.m. (“early”) game on CBS. However, the only two games which the 49ers are on CBS are interconference home games. All home games in San Francisco must be 4 p.m. ET (“late”) games. Therefore, a conflict is found in both cases.
-One conflict can be cured by scheduling the Raiders’ home game during the 49ers’ bye week. The second conflict would have to be cured by scheduling the 49ers in primetime (or on Thanksgiving).
-The 49ers’ two interconference home games also create conflicts in the opposite direction.
-This above requirement does not exist for the Giants and Jets. Both of those teams can play home games in either time slot: 1 p.m. (“early”) or 4 p.m. (“late”), because they are in the Eastern time zone. However, the same conflict presented by the interconference home games still exists as both teams will have to play at home during the same day. Since they play in the same stadium, it is impossible for one team to play a home game in the early time slot and for the other to play their home game in the late time slot.
-The often complicated television package is a significant factor in why the NFL schedule for a particular season takes several weeks to develop.
It'll be shown
It’s a one week adjustment due to weather and they aren’t on the same network. You’ll note that the Niners and Raiders are never on the same network, thus to avoid the first game running long and preventing the network from showing the second game from the start. This happened in ‘95 when the Raiders left LA and the schedules had already been released. The Raider game at KC went to overtime and us locals didn’t join the Niners home game vs the Pats until well into the first quarter.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
I'm aware of that...
I was just trying to point out that generally the NFL attempts to avoid scheduling the Raiders and 49ers on top of each other.
anybody in the Los Angeles area
know if Fox is going to show the game?

well according to the twitter page of the dude that has the distribution maps… http://twitter.com/the506/status/6836327396 it will be only in NorCal and Philly area… nothing official yet
Not to mention...
The Cowboys (provided they lose tonight, which they will because no one can beat the ’Aints at the Dome) and Giants playoffs hopes hang in the balance of this game. There will be much more interest (at least in Texas) in the 49ers – Eagles game than in the PIT-GB game. I can guarantee it.
They care about ratings...
So they’ll try and pick the game they think will attract the attention of the most viewers. After the PIT implosion of this year (that’s basically knocked them out of the playoffs), I would think that the playoff implications of PHL-SF would make it a bigger attraction to viewers.
Anyone know where we can find an updated TV listing for the country? I think they moved the Baltimore-Chicago game so I’d be stoked to get the niners game here in DC

What Local Channel?
What local channel are the niners games on in SF? I’m heading over there to visit some family for Chirstmas later this week and I need to know what channel they’re on. I’ll be in Daly City if that makes a difference…
Fox
According to the NFL’s press release:
The game will be televised on FOX as originally scheduled.
Not sure what that means outside the Bay Area.
How about nationally?
I know many of the NFC East markets were carrying the game (like Dallas/Houston/Austin/San Antonio) because this has huge implications for the Cowboys making the playoffs, plus the fact that the 49ers and Eagles are arch enemies of Cowboy Nation doesn’t hurt at all…
not sure
I emailed my contact at the NFL. I’ll post something once I hear from him.

smart move by the NFL
we are getting hammered here in Virginia..some areas up to a foot of snow and its moving up north. It is safe to say that the 49ers(a warm weather team) will be playing in the snow on sunday. Does that bold well for them? I’d like to say yes because that will slow down Desean Jackson but…..who knows
"Of all the things in the world losing isn't so bad; it just starts to feel like it does when you do it for so long"
this is actually a good thing
it gets rid of the slow start they usually have in early games. hmmm
Snow might help Niners?
Ironically, if the snow is coming down during the game, that might work to the Niners advantage. It could favor more of a ground game and Philly is a little thin in that area.
49ers are more physical
The effect of the passing attack depends on if it’s actually snowing during the game. If snowing it favors the defense cause it limits deep passes. If there is snow but not snowing it favors the offense because defenders have trouble staying on their feet.
Thanks for the info Fooch...
I just made a post a few hours ago wondering what was going to happen….it is CRAZY out here, it will probably be between 1-2 feet when all is said and done!
Agreed
It’s been awhile since I’ve seen this much snow. I live in Philly and posted a FanShot of the parking lot at my job. It’s gotten worse since I took that pic. I also agree with the weather and the time update playing to the 9ers advantage. Instead of a 10am PST game they will play at 1 PST as usual, plus Philly’s run defense is around 20th in the league and their run offense isn’t much better. GO 49ERS!

So what does this mean for viewing in the East Coast?
I was actually excited to be able to watch the game in my own home (because usually i have to go to a friends and watch it on NFL sunday ticket) and the game was scheduled to be on, but now that it is on at 4, it conflicts with the Steelers/Packers game, which is on the same channel, that is supposed to be shown…does anyone know how that will work?
niners eagles game should be on Sunday Night Football
as much as i can recall…niners haven’t been on NBC
I mentioned it earlier in the season
However, NBC had the Eagles on last week thus there was no chance the 49ers vs Eagles game was going to be prime time.
NBC should've flexed this game in
And I think they would’ve had the Niners beaten Seattle. I am a bit surprised they kept the Vikings going against the 5-8 Panthers. I’m pretty sure that team can play back to back SNF games since the Cowboys did a few seasons ago.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
And it seems like every other week....
the Vikings are either on MNF or SNF lol
by sanfranfanmdk on Dec 19, 2009 12:36 PM PST up reply actions
Apparently NBC tried to lift a few other games for SNF but both networks blocked their choices for the week so they settled for the Vikings vs Panthers game.
Someone their should've chosen this game
Two major markets and both teams in the playoff hunt. Tells me that they expected the Niners to lose to AZ. Which would still give us the same record as Carolina. Too bad for NBC. Their loss.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
I found the rules. I knew the rule for the flex game was different in Week 17
NFL Flexible Scheduling 101
- Begins Sunday of Week 11
-In effect during Weeks 11-17
-Only Sunday afternoon games are subject to being moved into the Sunday night window.
-The game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night during flex weeks will be listed at 8:15 p.m. ET.
- The majority of games on Sundays will be listed at 1:00 p.m. ET during flex weeks except for games played in Pacific or Mountain Time zones which will be listed at 4:05 or 4:15 p.m. ET.
- No impact on Thursday, Saturday or Monday night games.
- The NFL will decide (after consultation with CBS, FOX, NBC) and announce as early as possible the game being played at 8:15 p.m. ET. The announcement will come no later than 12 days prior to the game. The NFL may also announce games moving to 4:05 p.m. ET and 4:15 p.m. ET.
- Week 17 start time changes could be decided on 6 days notice to ensure a game with playoff implications.
- The NBC Sunday night time slot in “flex” weeks will list the game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night.
- Fans and ticket holders must be aware that NFL games in flex weeks are subject to change 12 days in advance (6 days in Week 17) and should plan accordingly.
- NFL schedules all games.
- Teams will be informed as soon as they are no longer under consideration or eligible for a move to Sunday night.
Yep. I think the week 17 rule started last season
Which is why we got the Denver-SD game, as it was the one game where both teams were guaranteed to have their playoff fate still alive. I also recall Peter King writing that there is a maximum number of times one team can appear on SNF and last season Dallas had hit their max, thus their game at Philly could not be chosen.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
When you think about it...
It would make sense from an audience perspective, I would think, for NBC to flex in SF @ PHL if they thought it was going to be a good game.
San Francisco has a huge base in both LA and San Francisco (that’s DMA’s 2 and 6). The outcome of the game affects the playoff chances of the NYGiants and Dallas Cowboys meaning you’d get solid viewership in NYC and in Texas (DMA’s 7, 11, 17, 35). Not to mention the Cowboys fans hate both teams and the Giants fans hate the Eagles. I would think there would be lots of interest… provided they thought it was going to be a good game.
Come on 49ers, prove NBC wrong.
just to make sure..
is this gonna be shown locally through the bay area on channel 2 still at 1:15?
There hasn't been an announcement to that effect yet...
FOX could switch their national game. Hell, they haven’t even updated their schedule on their website yet.
like i said, i was looking at http://twitter.com/the506/status/6836327396 BUT nothing official yet… the dude has distribution maps weekly
Yeah...
KTVU-FOX (San Francisco, Oakland) doesn’t even have the SF-Philly game on its schedule anymore. So… I hope FOX figures out what they are doing in sort order.
And as soon as I post that...
They put up a viewer alert on their website saying they will carry the game will be televised.
Possible unintended consequence
Would be if both the Niners and Raiders games both receive the expected viewing audience locally. That may provide an opening for the Niners to request an altering of the rule and perhaps allow the Niners and Raiders to have two weeks per season where they both play at 1:00 Pacific. At the very least, their annual divisional trips (SF-STL, OAK-KC) should be held at 1:00 Pacific for consistency with other West division games. AZ’s game in STL was at 1:00 Pac. Perhaps this weather related scheduling change will give an example that would otherwise have never been allowed.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
