Singletary admits run, run, run was a bad idea ...
This is why Shaun Hill started losing..
Why did the 49ers win and Alex Smith look so good all of a sudden ? Real simple ! Just put him in the Shotgun position and stop running the ball every down with a crappy Offensive line. The Shotgun formation gave Alex Smith more time to look around and pass. Shaun Hill was winning when he was in the Shotgun formation also. But then he was forced to come up to center and hurry every play. And they was running on 1st and second down also, leaving Shaun Hill in a stressful situation, to try and make up for the loss of yards. So now Alex Smith gets Shaun Hills job because of poor play calling. Sounds very unfair to me.... SHAUN HILL ROCKS !!

so lemme get this straight
Alex Smith has his best game of the season and you’re calling for Shaun Hill? Not the best pan post.
wanna hear a funny joke? the Buccaneers picked Gaines Adams over Patrick Willis
no, you were right the first time
pan post sums this up nicely, because it belongs in a pan, a bed pan.

Shaun Hill would have done just as good or better with the same play calling.
What most of you dont realize is their success is mostly because of play calling, and what keeps you safe and gives you time to be successful as a QB, ( Offensive Line ). Shaun Hill was kicking major ass when he was in the Shotgun position and when they let him pass more. But then the play calling changed and Shaun Hill was put up on the line instead of being placed in the Shotgun just like Alex Smith last game. And they used the run as a last resort instead of running on first and second downs, then trying to pass when the defense is set up for pass because it is 3rd down. Very stupid play calling, just like you brain dead fans.

Shaun Hill can't throw a 15 yard out route
Crabtree runs a lot of those routes…

"What most of you don't realize"
I love when people act like they have some major insight that no one else does. Yes, the 49ers offensive play calling has really blown this year. That’s hardly a major revelation. And I don’t actually remember Shaun Hill playing out of the shotgun that much, even early on. What Hill benefited from was playing against weaker teams.
Don't trust this guy. He lies.
Yeah, I get that a lot
Yes, I'm sure Jerry Rice never dropped a single pass in his entire football career.
There’s really no doubt in my mind that it’s a joke.

2009 Stats:
Smith: 62.2 comp%, 6.5 y/a, 11 TD/7 INT, 42 DYAR, -6.7% DVOA
Hill: 56.1 comp%, 6.1 y/a, 5 TD/2 INT, -190 DYAR, -29.4 DVOA
A hearty thank you to Rich Aurilia for all the good memories, and to the Niners for finally getting the uni's (mostly) right.
Now Compare Hill's win loss % to Smith's
and don’t give that weaker team BS. Hill led the winning drive against Cardinals in September and what should have been the winning drive against the Vikings. Both in late 4th quarter come from behind fashion. What is it about you-all who always toe the company line here, ridiculing anyone who dissents?

My recreational activities is taking mini-vacations!
When I have the money, I take random weekend trips as often as possible in my free time. My most recent was a trip to Chicago a few weekends ago to see the city and watch the Sharks play the Blackhawks. But in the past two years I’ve also done weekends in Philly, New Orleans, Las Vegas, San Diego, Central Oregon, Seattle, Tampa, Grand Canyon, Lake Tahoe, camping on the Sonoma Coast…oh, yeah, and I spent a week in Mexico in Cozumel. So, yeah, when I save up a little money, I tend to spend my weekends elsewhere in the country (Mexico trip aside). It’s fun, and it keeps me entertained!

Strange but true,
Too much water can kill you.
Not strange at all. Your body relies on things like sodium, sugar, and potassium in the bloodstream because these molecules and electrolytes play critical roles in the nervous system, triggering receptors and allowing nerve messages to travel electrically from the source to the muscle.
When you drink too much water, you dilute the store of essential minerals and electrolytes in your bloodstream, and if you dilute it too much, then you remove the elements that allow the receptors in the nervous system to fire. This causes muscle and organ failure, and you die.
I don't know about that, to the groin.

I absolutely love camping over on the coast in the summer months
Absolutely the best kind of places to camp, especially if you live in a place where the temperatures are always in the 90s during the summer.
Where I live:
We sometimes get several days over 110 in the summer. One year we had a solid week of 110+.
I know exactly what you mean.
90s are considered cool days for at least a week every summer. I try to spend as many weekends as I can along the coast during the summer, especially during those weeks.
Same here
I’m from Bakersfield and last summer I came to the east bay for a family reunion. It got to about 90 degrees and all the bay area people were really complaining about the heat. I just laughed and enjoyed the nice weather.

Here in the UK ...

“here comes the sun” by the Beatles. I don’t think I could make it in the U.K. based on the weather alone. Here in CA’s central valley the sun shines all day 95% of the time. During the dog days of summer our overnight lows are usually in the low 80’s.

The last thing we need is yet another change at QB
I too am a Shaun Hill fan, but he’s been set up to fail from the beginning. Even after he had a good end of 2007 season, he was still passed over in 2008 for JTO and Jamie Martin. The organization has never told him that he’s “the guy,” but have always made him fight for his job as starter. Let’s not forget that Vernon Davis’ first TD ever was from a Shaun Hill pass. I agree that the playcalling and inconsistency at positions is what’s been holding the Niners back. That being said, let’s let Alex Smith ride this season out and hope the protection for him gets better.
What we really need is a kick returner. I hope Brit Miller can be that guy for us the rest of the season.
Shaun Hill was never behind Jamie Martin on the depth chart.
In the time that Shaun Hill has had to fight to be the starter, Alex Smith has also had to fight to be the starter.
GROUGTHINK ALERT
The first Chester Arthur fanboy ever.
Until you’re a top level quarterback, along the lines of a Montana, Young, Manning, Brady, or Elway, you should never go into the season with the expectation that you’re the starter. And even then, you’d best be looking over your shoulder so as not to get complacent.

context
When I say context I just mean looking at the opponents, the players, etc…
And I have never once said that Alex Smith is clearly the answer, or that he will be great, or whatever. I think he has potential, but obviously hasn’t proven that yet. I just think the arguments people make about the record of one QB versus another doesn’t help determine the situation.
While it’s true that most great QBs have great records, it’s usually because they were part of a great team. A quarterback can’t win a game on his own, just as a running back or a wide receiver or anybody else. It’s so context specific, unlike any of the other major sports.
Sure Brett Favre threw a great pass to beat the 49ers earlier this season, but Greg Lewis had to make a great catch.
Sure Steve Young made a great throw to Terrell Owens in The Catch II, but TO had Steve Young wasn’t the one getting popped in the end zone after making a tough catch.

Shaun Hill in 2010
Howdy KSWOF. You are obviously the most aware, logical, and football savvy fellow commenting here. And, like thoughtful folks throughout time, you are ostracized and ridiculed for speaking truth to kowtowing bandwagon jumpers. When Hill was yanked after 1.5 bad games his record was still 10 wins 5.5 losses. You and I may have been the only commenters here to note that Singletary’s mistake in replacing Hill cost the Niners their chance at the playoffs.
OK. Let Nate Davis start one of the final games. Let Hill take on one, only this time with the same offense now in place. Shop Smith in the off season for a great back up QB. And let that guy, Hill, and Davis compete fairly next August.
Then too, how about a coach with a sense of humor who can relate without platitudes in every sentence.
KSWOF,,,, continue to bug the dominant mentality here at Niner Nation.

Really? Alex Smith may not be the long term answer, but Shaun Hill isn’t a better option, even remotely.

Fooch, You Fall for Bandwagon Effect
Neither you nor I have time to check it out, but if we go back to review all of Niner history
with the good to great QB’s being Y.A. Tittle, Billy Kilmer, John Brodie, Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Jeff Garcia …. My guess is that only Steve Young went 10 & 5 in his first fifteen starts with this once great franchise.
And if you come back with the weak arm argument, I’ll have to retire from 9 to 5 job to review the game films to show the clips to prove you wrong; Vernon Davis and Josh Morgan were doing very well, thank you, with Shaun at QB. Speed burner Vernon led all tight ends at the point Hill was yanked.
But it DOES seem you are on board with York, MCL, and Singletary on this issue. Now that’s quite a group to want to be seen associating with.

As far as Hill is concerned, I really don’t think the offense was operating anywhere near the level it could with Hill back there. He certainly could make some plays, but I jut don’t think he is anywhere close to being a long term answer. And if you think I’m on board with the front office because of that, so be it.

Great Research, Thanks Man.
And no I don’t think SH is our long term future. I do hold, however, that we would have made it into the playoffs this year with him at the helm. Maybe it was you who suggested we try to trade Smith for one of the best current back-ups and draft a QB in
the second or third round. Let the two new guys duke it out in August with Davis and Hill.
Hill could be a one or two year 9 & 7, 10 & 6 “manager” until Davis or new draftee is ready.
Again, thanks for the rapid research. I stand corrected, that’s then Tittle and Young who are up there with Hill to start the career.
Thanks for the chat.
