Sunday morning NFL game thread
Up until early yesterday, this was going to be a 49ers game thread. Mother Nature had other plans and the 49ers game has been moved back to 1:15pm pacific time. I have to say that even though it's been rather chilly here in San Francisco the last couple weeks, it certainly can't compare to the dumping they're receiving back east.
Since the 49ers now have the morning off, those of us in the Bay Area get to watch the Cardinals and the Lions in the 10am time slot. I'm not holding my breath, but maybe the Lions can pull off what would be a sizable upset. The Lions are at home and the Cardinals have generally played well on the road. Throw in the fact that Detroit just isn't good and this game could end rather poorly. But I can live with the "any given Sunday" mantra, and that'll carry me for at least a little bit of the Cardinals game. Maybe the Cowboys upset last night gives me a bit more hope....or not.
The snow forced 49ers-Eagles and Ravens-Bears to move back to 1:15 pacific starts, but that doesn't mean we don't have any other intriguing matchups. We get the Dolphins at 7-6 heading into Tennessee who is 6-7. Right now, 7-6 would get one of the two AFC wildcard spots, so this is a rather huge game for both teams. In fact, a Tennessee loss would effectively end the Titans playoff chances.
We also get another 7-6/6-7 matchup between the Jets and Atlanta. Atlanta is in a similar situation to the 49ers in terms of the wildcard and badly need a win. The Jets are in the thick of the AFC playoff race, so it should be a fairly intense game.
We'll be back with the 49ers game thread around 12:30 or 12:45.

For some reason
I felt no matter how well 49ers played tonight, we somehow had an unlikely but possible chance of sneaking into the playoffs at 8-8, with the perfect other games scenario working out,
now the Cowboys decided to turn the corner at the same time Saints wanted to get their first loss. It feels like this week could be the more intriguing one rather than it actually coming down to the final week.
Now might aswell beat Eagles and have to hope Eagles or Cowboys don’t win in week 16 (plus so Falcons and Giants don’t win out), then we are still in. I guess just as much chance of that happening as there is for Cardinals to finish with the same record as us. So it’s gonna be close.
But that Cowboys win just to down one more possible scenario of us getting in easier.
I wore my Drew Brees jersey to a bar full of Cowboy fans last night...
A little hung over. Still pissed off. I think a 49ers win would go a long way in helping me feel better.

Go Lions!
Yes, Cards are 5-2 on the road. But they’ve only played three good teams on the road: Giants, Titans and Niners. 1-2 in those games. Let’s hope their two game losing streak on the road carries into today and Detroit plays inspired ball at home.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Wow. OK, I didn't realize the game time changed
I saw the Cardinals/Kittens on and was about to fucking kill something.
They call their best player "Kung Fu Panda" and they complain that people aren’t taking them or the game seriously enough? -Nick
The Lions are boring enough to watch on a regular day...
but without Stafford in the lineup, they’re just sleep-inducing.
On a related note, I think I might have been wrong about the kid. Stafford is something special.
"It came down like a punt, Coach!" - Josh Morgan
Omg, they're so bad
I know I should be interested in this game because of the impact on the 49ers, but jeez….
next time I’m bemoaning a poor niners performance, I’m going to remember this
I suspect that you think tilting at windmills means something other than what it does.
Awful
They “Battle” a punt away and miss a wide open Johnson for a TD. What could be 7-0 Detroit is 7-0 AZ. They’re bad and better play as such next week in SF.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Wait...
You have a Joey Harrington jersey? Although, I think he’d do a better job than Culpepper is doing right now.
Yea, errr my mom bought one when i was growing up, right when he was drafted, swear i thought he would help out that franchise… but WOW, this team is FUCKED
I've always wondered about Harrington...
I thought most of his problems were caused by Matt Millen’s inability to draft to save his life. Hey, let’s not draft a RB. Hey, let’s not draft an O-Line. Hey, let’s not draft a couple of LB’s. Oooo… Lookie! A WR!.
Because of the weather delays
I’m stuck with the crappy Lions-Cardinals game.

Didn't understand
Did anyone ever bother to watch when he coached the Rams. He stunk and the players hated him.
I think it's because he wasn't Raye
And because some people really wanted to believe that Sing screwed it up and Linehan couldn’t deal with him. It couldn’t be that, I don’t know, neither guy wanted the arrangement or even that Sing decided, “thanks but you’re not what I want.” His patience in making hires leads to way too many people to assume he doesn’t know what he’s doing.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
does it look like moss has given up again???

I would’ve expected a blowout by now, but hey, lions are still competing, if they didn’t shoot themselves in the foot earlier, they’d be in it
fumble on punt return hurt em
god can we relate or what

Josh Cribbs has returned two kickoffs for touchdowns today.

I'm quite sure
That underlined on the Chiefs scouting report in 72-point bold type is DO NOT KICK TO CRIBBS! Seriously.

LMAO
That’s just the Browns scouting report in general.
A) Kick out of bounds on kickoff
B) Always go for 4th down
The rest of the Browns team is {site decorum}, don’t be stupid.
EVEN ON OFFENSE THEY HAVE TO PLAY D LOL

Any Fantasty Advice
A) Jay Cutler versus the Ravens
B) Jason Campbell versus the Giants
C) There is no eff’in C. That’s my two crappy choices
Well if I had to choose between those two
I’d go with Cutler.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
Of course I went with Brees as my QB this week and he didn't do so hot last night
so my advice might not be worth much.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
Try Campbell
He’s been playing well and the Giants defense has given up a lot of points.
"It ain't over till it's over." - Yogi Berra
Campbell
Bears only arrived in Baltimore last night and you can’t trust Cutler. Giants D is all beat up in the secondary.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Culpepper has been pulled and Drew Stanton is playing for Detroit.

Stafford hurt his shoulder and was the emergency QB today.
"It ain't over till it's over." - Yogi Berra
Staffrod really impressed me that game
especially on that last drive
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
Good Lord
It’s like the Cardinals don’t even need to try
I suspect that you think tilting at windmills means something other than what it does.
Ha!
Now that’s nice
I suspect that you think tilting at windmills means something other than what it does.
Warner should have something like 3 INTs by now
if the Lions d was any good
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
They finally came down with a pick
sure took forever for them to run that one back though.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
how big
is the fumble on the punt return now???

Stupid Jets....
They are trying to keep the Falcons in the game, missed two short field goals
Yeah..
well the first one wasn’t his fault, but still, come on Jets lol

Lions could be down only a TD
if they hadn’t of missed a field goal
he had a nice TD catch....
ball was tipped, bounced around, and he was able to haul it in and maintain control before going out of bounds

Watching the Fins-Dolphins ...
… while mourning the Cards score which kills things even for us glass-half-full types, and I have an observation. Know what one of the saddest sights in football is? The special teams tackler doing his celebratory dance and the camera not bothering to stick with him.
It kind of kills me in a way. You notice it more when you’re looking at a non-Niners game, and you spot incidental stuff because you’re not that into it. And you see someone bring down the kick receiver, and do his little dance, but the camera immediately swings to the quarterback making his way off the field. You see the celebrating tackler just as the camera angle switches. I feel for those guys, I really do.

I don’t think I’ll ever stop laughing

Agreed great all around.
This game is getting good. I’m supposed to paint one of my rooms before the niners game but don’t want to stop watching the game!

this made me laugh

I would love to see the Cardinals implode
and lose 4 straight, with those games including the Lions and Rams lol
Go Lions!!!!!!

I don’t think the Cards are going to continue to try to push the issue with Beanie Wells and run game.
I still suspect that the Lions will find a way to give the Cardinals some more points

He was so awesome @ Fresno City college. He holds all the rushing records here.

then did it again after the first call.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
Crossing my fingers and my eyes
Hoping that the Cards have to deal with losing to the Lions.

I don't know, but I'd like some more
with a side helping of some Lions not being totally awful, please
I suspect that you think tilting at windmills means something other than what it does.
Nice play
Like the announcers said they were setting that up all day long. Nice first down.
One time Lions
please dont make this a case where I hate you even more for me rooting for you and you losing! WIN!
How many times has Joe Montana thrown an interception in a super bowl?
Pretty sad...
when you see them going down the field and you’re thinking can they get close enough for a FG?

Jets fans throwing snowballs at the Falcons
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
probably be ice balls and beer bottles
Philly fans are nasty
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
Lions didn't get it
held the Cardinals to 3 and out. After the punt they’re on the 40 something yard line so they have good field position
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
he's rather good, isn't he
I suspect that you think tilting at windmills means something other than what it does.
Well they gave up a TD with under 2 mins left on a 4th a goal...
left Tony Gonzalez open for it…missed 3 field goals throughout the game, so now they were down by 3 with a chance to tie it up, and Sanchez throws his third INT

They even added padding to his helmet to make it warmer
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
3 INTs and the Falcons only win by 3 points
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
Update please?
Time remaining, possession, down, yard line?

1st and goal
Complete down at the 1 yard line. Ball came out but it was down by contact
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
Well at least with the Jets losing...
I don’t have to have the game running into OT and I don’t have to miss the Niner game
They way the announcers made it sound....
the Falcons are out of the playoff race…I think if there is a three-way tie of 9-7, we could beat out the Falcons because of conference record
