Week 15 NFL Power Rankings and the 49ers
It's been two weeks since we last posted the 49ers (and NFC West) power rankings. Apologies for skipping them, but we'll close out the season with them. And quite the week to pick them back up. While I'm not a huge Pro Football Talk fan, I do think their rumor mill can be slightly useful on occasion. In Florio's comment for the 49ers power ranking, assuming he's not being sarcastic he may have lost a certain level of respect from me:
By publicly declaring that Alex Smith is the quarterback of the future, the 49ers are now in position to nab Tim Tebow before the Jaguars can get him.
I refuse to believe the 49ers would touch Tebow in the first round. Maybe the Jaguars will be, but I pray the 49ers do not. I'm a generally positive person, but I might blow a gasket if they draft Tebow that early.
ESPN - #22 - Upcoming games against the Lions and Rams should help Alex Smith finish strong.
- Arizona - #6
- Seattle - #24
- St. Louis - #32
The Big Lead - #22 - It’s tough to win when you give up 420+ yards and commit four turnovers. Hell, under those circumstances, it’s nice when you only give up 27 points.
- Arizona -#8
- Seattle - #27
- St. Louis - #32
Fox Sports - #18 - The Niners have fight and spirit. All they need are a few more playmakers to be a playoff team. Case in point: After eliminating the 49ers last week, Philly defenders admitted their midweek choice was whether to take away Frank Gore or Vernon Davis.
- Arizona - #11
- Seattle - #27
- St. Louis - #32
CBS Sports - #21 - Alex Smith didn't help his chances of being the long-term guy with his play in Philadelphia. The next two games will decide his future with the 49ers -- I think.
- Arizona - #9
- Seattle - #24
- St. Louis - #32

The Pro Football Talk guy
Is a complete idiot. I may be out of it, but I’d never really heard of that site until today, so I’d think it’s not one of the “elite” sites for power rankings. I’m positive the Niners management is not dumb enough to draft Tebow. Does this guy honestly believe that with two “project” QB’s already in the system, that they would be stupid enough to draft a third??
Best case scenario to draft Tebow
Only if he was around in the 6th or 7th round. That way the Niners would have insurance to develop a third QB in case Alex or Nate completely fall apart.
PFT
I don’t see him as the best source for power rankings, but PFT is pretty big among football sites. I know the guys over at Stampede Blue can’t stand him because of some stuff he said about Marvin Harrison.

He is...
Florio is being facetious. It’s one of the reasons I love reading PFT. Hell, he wrote this about the Oakland Raiders at #27….
_ Some think Sunday’s game was the start of a new era for JaMarcus Russell. We prefer to think of it as a blind, overweight squirrel tripping over a pile of acorns._
I want an edit button...
That quote was supposed to be italicized.

Sadly, an edit button for individual comments would cause unheard of mayhem. It would be completely insane.
I don't know about that, to the groin.

Not if it was a timed thing
Like Digg has. 5-10 seconds to edit your post and then it’s locked in. That gives you a chance to catch the quick error but won’t let you go back and completely change something after lots of discussion has already happened.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
I think everyone knows my stance on PFT.
I would love it if the 49ers drafted Tebow.
in round 7.
You can never resist the game... nor could I... we're the same, so don't even try.
looking at some draft sites
And the majority of them have us drafting a cb. I am hoping for the best OL. Then the next pick varies. So many directions and OK qb keeps falling. Going to be a great draft for us
Merry Christmas! 49ers friends and family!

I'd say why not
But he has to be completely passed up in the draft, and somehow I don’t think his fortunes will be that bad. He just has had too much notariety to be completely blown off.
LMAO
Draft Tebow as a blocking TE.

OUCH
I can just hear the coaching staff of that team telling him, “Welcome Tim. Oh BTW, we’re converting you to a TE and you’ll be staying in to block for most plays.” The next day we’d see a story about him either having left camp or committing suicide.
Actually...
One of my friends thinks he’ll get drafted as a wildcat QB until he manages to figure out passing from the pocket. People might pay to see Tebow run in a few TD’s from up the middle, especially in Florida.
Seriously, one reason why I think the Niners would be interested
Sing’s preseason vision of hitting people in the mouth seems to fit well with Tebow. He plays like what I would call a “Kamikaze QB”. He’d run right into defenses like it’s in a QB’s job description.
I do like that about him
The guy’s fearless—of course being nearly as big as an offensive lineman helps with that.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
