Bowl Games Gameday Thread: Saturday, December 26th, 2009
Bowl games, bowl games, and more bowl games today starting early and ending late. Today we have, yes, count 'em, three bowl games. For the early game we have the Little Bowl Caesars which will feature underdog (6-6) Marshall Thundering Herd vs the (9-4) Ohio Bobcats. The second game will be the Meineke Car Care Bowl featuring # 17 ranked (9-3) Pittsburgh Panthers vs the (8-4) North Carolina Tar Heels. And for the final game of the evening we will see The Emerald Bowl which will feature the (8-4) Boston College Eagles vs the (8-4) USC Trojans. All three of these games should be good matchups. Momentum changer
for the Bobcats
Tim Tebow = 1,432,219 season tickets next year. Who wouldn't pick him in the 1st round with those projections?
Bowl games
I never understood the point of having 6-6 teams in bowl games. Clearly a playoff would be costly to such AWESOME bowl games!
Hey now
This game isn’t bad at all, and serves as a means an extra exhibition of senior talent.
That said, why can’t we have a playoff system AND bowl games (for those teams that don’t qualify).
agree
My playoff idea has been for an 8 team playoff, and then the remainder are in the bowl games. I suppose you could go with 16, but 8 is a good start. You could use the BCS rankings and just take the top 8 teams. Or at the very least go with the 6 BCS conferences and 2 at larges like they do now, only turn it into an 8 team playoff. You’d have 7 games, so you go with the BCS title game, the 4 major bowls, and then two more bowls such as the Cotton Bowl and Gator Bowl (or any other combination).
One of the arguments against a playoff is the idea of getting people to travel to all these games on relatively short notice. I say go with a playoff, but that’s one of the few arguments that makes sense.

The travel issue
Is legitimate, but I should imagine most working fans would start saving a couple of vacation days to use for playoff games if that were the case. Plus, the better teams have fans all over the country, so it may not have as much an impact for those teams anyway.
I would go top 4 playoff for #1 but not rid bowl games

I just like Marshall
because of that movie “We Are Marshall”. Always find myself rooting for that school since they’ve always kind of been an underdog… but I agree, a 6-6 team should never be in a bowl game. It used to happen in the NFL occasionally when you only had the 3 divisions in each conference but I am glad it is structured the way it is now

Marshall
When I was in college in Washington, DC Randy Moss was at Marshall. I became a fan of them their last year at 1-AA. Pennington to Moss was filthy.

dion lewis
for pitt. i watched this kid in the game against cinci and he can flat out get it on. should be fun to watch. amazing he’s only a freshman
Well
I watched the WVU game and for most of it he looked like a dud. I’m biased though… Ryan Williams should have been the #1 freshman RB this year considering he faced much tougher Ds and picked up more TDs than Lewis.
101 yards at half...not bad
he’s got some great moves

Yep
plan on it… there’s a few more prospects in that game as well. Charles Brown, Damian Williams, Anthony McCoy, Will Harris, etc…

I don’t know man . . .
Watched him get beat on a long pass and then take a poor angle of pursuit. Also watched him intentionally miss a touchdown scoring RB. He always seemed to be arriving late & then standing & watching. To be fair, he did make a nice shoestring tackle. Wanted to be impressed, but wasn’t. I wanted to see him appear horizontally on the TV screen blasting every opponent that got in his way. Guess that’s why he number is 2 and not 42.

I didn't know Taylor Mays played first base

I think he is sick
because his comments said something to the effect of consulting with doctors, family, etc. He also said he has been ignoring his health for too long now

Yates
Has to be one of the worst QBs in the ACC, let alone the nation. He looked like a true frosh out there.
he's fine
unless you put any sort of pressure on him….loves to choke
