49ers LB Patrick Willis, TE Vernon Davis, P Andy Lee named to Pro Bowl
I have to say I'm really excited to be able to announce that Patrick Willis, Vernon Davis and Andy Lee will be representing the 49ers at the 2010 Pro Bowl in Miami. Bamm Bamm, The Disease and arguably my favorite 49er (if you've been at the site for a while you shouldn't be surprised by that) are all exceedingly deserving of these selections. The Cardinals punter Ben Graham was solid, but I'm psyched Lee was given the nod.
In addition, RB Frank Gore is a first alternate, DE Justin Smith is a second alternate, and Michael Robinson (special teams) is a second alternate. It's a shame Aubrayo Franklin didn't make the alternate list, but maybe that'll be extra motivation next season for him. I'll add a link in a bit to the entire NFC roster, but for now head over to NFL.com/ProBowl.
The following info was provided by the 49ers.
Willis becomes the first 49ers player to make it to the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons since Ronnie Lott kicked off his career with four straight appearances starting in 1981. He currently leads the team with 166 tackles to go along with four sacks and career-highs of three interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), three forced fumbles and 12 passes defensed. According to NFL statistics, Willis leads the league in tackles with 147. He has led the team in each of his three seasons with the 49ers, starting all 47 games played since being drafted in the first round (11th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Mississippi.
Davis is having a career-year, leading the team with career-highs of 72 catches, 876 yards and 12 touchdowns. His 12 touchdown catches and 876 are the most by a tight end in franchise history, and he trails only TE Antonio Gates (2004) for the most touchdown receptions by an NFL tight end in a single season. Davis has played in 55 games (53 starts) since being drafted in the first round (6th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft out of Maryland.
Lee leads the NFC and ranks second in the NFL with a 47.7 gross punting average and 41.4 net punting average. A 2007 Pro Bowler and All-Pro, Lee has a chance to break his own single season franchise record in both gross (47.8 in 2008) and net average (41.0 in 2007) in this weekend's season finale. He has played in all 95 games since being drafted in the sixth round of the 2004 NFL Draft out of Pittsburgh.

True.
Some writers even had him on their All-Pro list by midseason. But it’s hard to get recognition as a 3-4 DL.
For positions that don't generate a lot of stats (particularly o-line and d-line) ...
… pro bowl invites are usually trailing indicators. Guys have to play at a pro-bowl level for extra year or two before they get the recognition, and they often keep getting recognized for a couple of years after their play no longer justifies it.
Yes he should've
But playing his position, he needed to have either ben discussed as a possibility last season and/or the Niners needed more nationally televised games. Not enough people hear anything about him. Hopefully this season’s rep of being slighted plus a winning Niners team next season will put him there.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
winning didn't do much for the bengals

They're not the Niners
Name still has value. Thus why the Cowboys always lead in voting.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
And the Colts
I think if the voting were held today there would be fewer Vikings going too
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
Congrats
(starters) Patrick Willis, Vernon Davis, Andy Lee, (reserves) Frank Gore, Justin Smith, Michael Robinson. It’s with great pleasure to see our Niners flying at the pro bowl :) woohoo! Go Niners!!!
awwww
Maybe next year Dashon G. Might be our SS next year. Congrats to our Pro Bowlers.
Merry Christmas! 49ers friends and family!

True knowledge is knowing you know nothing!
Trade up for Berry Scot it's the move to make. "Who is Berry?"..............Here we go again!!
I hate the Pro-Bowl voting
I especially hate that it starts mid-way through the season before half the players even hit their stride. It’s really just a popularity contest and that’s it.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
I actually think there should be an asterisk if you get to play as an alternate.
If a player is selected twice as a starter or reserve, and once as an alternate during his career, he is a two-time Pro Bowler. But if a guy ahead of him is injured that year and he gets to go a third time, he’s a three-time Pro Bowler.
But on the other hand, if a player is selected three times as a starter or reserve, and in one of those years he can’t go because of an injury, he’s still a three-time Pro Bowler.
So, you’re giving something to one guy without taking it away from the other guy. Don’t you think that’s a bit inconsistent – especially considering that different years might produce different numbers of Pro Bowlers?
I don’t mean to diminish Gore’s accomplishments (or those of other alternates). But if you look at contracts that contain clauses referring to Pro Bowl selections (Crabtree’s comes to mind), I find it odd that one player’s contract would depend on a player on another team getting injured or not playing in the Pro Bowl because his team made it to the Super Bowl.
how awesome
way to go boys. especially andy for beating out graham. ha
Deangello Out with Injury
Frank is In
"Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are"
He shouldn't play anymore this season.
Carolina really wore him down this season and he’s been “injured” since like week 4 (he’s on my Fantasy Football season and I had to deal with Questionable tags almost all season long).
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

funny thing
depending on who is going to play in the superbowl will have an impact on this probowl since the game is played 1 week before the SB. like if the vikes make it there’s going to be 8 spots right away that will need alternates. no head coach or owner in their right mind will let any player play in the probowl if the big games on the line.
Quite proud of our Pro Bowlers
Especially the great Andy Lee. The man punts in Candlestick plus games in GB and Seattle after mid-November and for an offense that way too often was 3 and out. He also had to punt in close games all season. Very much deserved.
P-Willy was obvious. VD may be joining him as the most recognized and respected Niners nationally. I’m also happy that Justin Smith and Robinson received some recognition for their work.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Great job Pro Bowlers
Is there a list out there that actually includes the full voting to see who the alternates are and where other players are in terms of voting?
I wonder where Goldson and some of the other players are. Also, whenever the Superbowl happens they are going to take some players out so I would like to see who is close of getting in as additional alternates…
