Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Joining the fray

Hey all-

Is it me or do we hold our breath watching the games these days? I want to have faith in our QB but he needs to earn it. I can say that he's looking more comfortable but so do my favorite chonies....seriously though...I recall the grand days of knowing we could hand out some beatings and certainly being amped for the previous regular games vs. the Saints (no matter how the Saints were doing-this was always an unknown!). Now I have to peek out between my fingers when I see Alex take a step back and start to throw. He's doing better no doubt - but better is not what we are about. We are the Niners and we know the taste of victory...I want that back. Gooooood News....Singletary wants it too. Love the training camp "boot camp" that he put on and you gotta love "the hill". Discipline is the key. Since the first sit down of Veron Davis...he has set the tone.

Watching Alex pull it together the first week when Singletary made the change (if I recall-at halftime?) it was great to see him come out and make an effort and get close to making it happen....So bottom line-I'm keeping my hands away from my eyes for this weeks game and I just hope that it comes together so I can start having confidence in my team again. Don't get me wrong....I'm Niners for life but the last ten years feel like I've been serving life!

I'm out-Clip those Seahawk's wings fellas!

The problem was that we got spoiled.

I was 8 years old when the 49ers won their first SB. I was in college when they won their last. I don’t think any team has had a run of dominance that lasted that long. Plus, we had the unbelievable good luck of having back-to-back hall of fame QB’s. I even remember lots of fans who thought the 49ers made a mistake by choosing Steve Young over an aging Joe Montana. Even Jeff Garcia was a probowl QB and Steve Bono could hold his own when he filled in for Young. I blame it all on Jim Druckenmiller. It’s when we drafted him that things started going down hill.

Don't trust this guy. He lies.

That does seem very much like the turning point

Damn you Druckenmiller!…. the name was just too long in and of itself.

Players we could have got instead in that draft:
Tiki Barber
Jake Plummer
Corey Dillion
Sam Madison
Marcellus Wiley
Darren Sharper
Ronde Barber
Jason Taylor
Bertrand Berry

…and the list goes on. But noooo, we have to take the guy that has just about every letter of the alphabet in his last name. That must have sucked for him in Kindergarten… anyway, you’re right.

Lookie here, he looks terrified to be in the NFL:

and thats just a handoff…

In all fairness

I do see Kwame Harris in the background

And look at the size of his helmet

It looks like it’s about to slip over his forehead.

What a horrible, horrible pick. Can you imagine if we Sharper, or Barber, or Taylor? Oh well.

Don’t tell kezarvet this, but there was another Nate Davis in that draft. Maybe we should’ve gotten him instead?

Here’s a really cool site for looking at previous draft histories. You can sort by team, position, year, round, even their school.

Haha

Nate Davis = Jim Druckenmiller

We met in a past life and you were wrong then too

by Drew Kerr on Dec 6, 2009 9:37 AM PST up reply actions

another Nate Davis?

Also, you can sort through a lot of similar information at nfl.com and obviously a bit more guaranteed for that info.

Nathan Davis

Defensive End. Selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2nd round. Looks like he was a big bust too. 3 seasons and he only played in 6 games (started none of them).

Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.

ahhh ok

I was scanning through the QBs wondering who you were talking to.

by David Fucillo on Dec 6, 2009 10:17 AM PST up reply actions

I remember Bill Walsh saying the 49ers should have taken Plummer of Druckenmiller

And that was right after the draft, so it wasn’t like he was saying it after everyone knew Druckenmiller was a bust. But at least he could bench press a car. Another work out warrior who’s worthless on the field.

Don't trust this guy. He lies.

"over" not "of"

Druckenmiller was an obvious bad pick at the time ...

… because he wasn’t the sort of QB who had traditionally thrived in our offense.

He was a gunslinger, whereas our offense was still built around smart, precision passing. This was obvious before the draft. But GMs always get enamored of the guy with the monster arm.

Sigh.

I wanted Plummer

I liked him at ASU and I thought he was going to be good (not great) but he was definitely better than #14 above.

Very true we as fans are very spolied. We know what excellence is and having the team struggle is frustrating but we are on the road to recovery

49ers Al Grito De Guerra!!! hahaha
