San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks Open Thread

San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks, Dec 6, 2009 1:15 PM PST

    49ers_logo_medium @ Th_seahawks_icon_medium

Date: December 6, 2009

Time: 1:15pm PST
Location: Qwest Field, Seattle, WA
Records: 49ers (5-6) Seahawks (4-7)
Bodoglife.com Spread: 49ers -1; Over/Under 41.5; Money Line: 49ers -116, Jaguars +106 - It's basically a pick 'em, with the line swinging over to the 49ers just barely for now.  I'd take the 49ers and the under.  The 49ers have shown an ability to move the ball, and if they do win, I think the defense will have to step up and quiet the Seahawks.  If that happens, I see a relatively low scoring affair.
Weather: 36°F, 12mph ENE Wind
TV Broadcast: FOX - Chris Myers, Ross Tucker, Jaime Maggio
Sports USA Radio: Tom McCarthy, Charles Arbuckle, Tony Graziani

Radio: 107.7 The Bone, 680/1050 KNBR - Ted Robinson, Gary Plummer, Rod Brooks
Spanish Radio
: KIQI 1010-AM, KATD 990-AM - Mathias Godinez, Melvin Moran, Marcos Gutierrez
Seahawks Coverage:
Field Gulls

Week 13 Prediction Contest: Remember that if you didn't get in your 49ers prediction you can use the wildcard game on Sunday.

Injuries
49ers
: Out - CB Nate Clements (shoulder); Doubtful - OT Joe Staley (knee), DT Kentwan Balmer (shoulder); Questionable - WR Isaac Bruce (ankle), CB Marcus Hudson (back), LB Takeo Spikes (hamstring); Probable - WR Arnaz Battle (ankle), LB Ahmad Brooks (thumb), WR Brandon Jones (thumb), S Michael Lewis (quadricep), DT Ray McDonald (shoulder), RB Michael Robinson (shoulder), OT Adam Snyder (shoulder)

Seahawks: Doubtful - LB D.D. Lewis (knee), DT Cory Redding (concussion); Questionable - RB Justin Forsett (quad), DE Lawrence Jackson (groin); Probable - RB Julius Jones (chest), C Chris Spencer (thumb)

The 49ers enter a two-game stretch today that is as important as any stretch since the Steve Mariucci era.  The 49ers still need help from the Cardinals later tonight, but for now they just need to take care of business against an inconsistent Seahawks squad.  It's a divisional road game, so it's not even remotely a gimme.  Let's hope the 49ers don't get caught looking ahead to next Monday Night.

Fooch's Note: Check out Florida Danny's quick look at the key matchups for today.

GO NINERS!

Let's do this.

I see a blowout coming, but it could be a close one.

by mountaindew77 on Dec 6, 2009 12:03 PM PST reply actions

We'll take the win any way we can get it

But lets go for the blowout. I got a lot of niners on my fantasy team

by bakoninerfan on Dec 6, 2009 12:05 PM PST up reply actions

My prediction nis that

the team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.

Just sayin.

I see the Niners running away with it from the beginning, but who knows with this team.

NFL ends revenue sharing program

…that’ll be another $8 million out of the pocket of the owners. Boo.

by Bitter Fan on Dec 6, 2009 12:17 PM PST reply actions

eh

revenue sharing only ends if it’s an uncapped year

Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.

by smileyman on Dec 6, 2009 12:18 PM PST up reply actions

I disagree

progress is being made and they have until March to come to a new agreement.

Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.

by smileyman on Dec 6, 2009 12:21 PM PST up reply actions

you probably know more than me but..

..I was under the impression DeMaurice Smith and the players were miles apart from the owners, and who wants a cap anyway?

by Bitter Fan on Dec 6, 2009 12:22 PM PST up reply actions

The players and owners do

because no salary cap means no salary minimum either. Which screws the majority of players.

No salary cap also means 6 years to free agency instead of 4 which is another big screw over for the players.

Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.

by smileyman on Dec 6, 2009 12:24 PM PST up reply actions

That's stupid.

The NFL is almost flawless as it is, if it trends towards the MLB I’d probably stop watching.

"For the love of god drop the FF talk everyone."

Me too

Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.

by smileyman on Dec 6, 2009 12:21 PM PST up reply actions

Part of the reason I like football

is because of parity. Parity comes because of revenue sharing and the salary cap.

I don’t watch college football because i hate seeing big schools beat up on smaller schools, and that’s what the NFL would turn into.

Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.

by smileyman on Dec 6, 2009 12:25 PM PST up reply actions

You really think there’s parity in the NFL this year? And in the last five years there’s been more different teams in the MLB playoffs than in the NFL playoffs. You don’t need to look any further than the Bay for an example- the A’s have won four World Series titles despite their small market and payroll.

by Chimneyfish on Dec 6, 2009 12:28 PM PST up reply actions

And the Giants don't make the playoffs..

…because Brian Sabean has developed one position player since Richie Aurilia.

by Bitter Fan on Dec 6, 2009 12:29 PM PST up reply actions

That A's example doesn't really work

Their World Series titles came in completely different financial environments than the one today.

They had the third-highest payroll in the AL

So yeah, I’d say that counts.

GROUGTHINK ALERT
The first Chester Arthur fanboy ever.

by groug on Dec 6, 2009 12:37 PM PST up reply actions

First few years of the Beane era..

…are more modern success by the A’s. Their failure the last few years has been completely screwing up the Chavez deal and some pretty meh trades.

by Bitter Fan on Dec 6, 2009 12:44 PM PST up reply actions

Well, yeah

But they’ve had to be pretty much perfect the last few years to even compete. That’s the massive advantage that the big market teams have. The Yankees could shrug off Jaret Wright and Carl Pavano. The A’s were ruined by Chavez being hurt.

I don’t even know what point I’m trying to make.

GROUGTHINK ALERT
The first Chester Arthur fanboy ever.

by groug on Dec 6, 2009 12:54 PM PST up reply actions

To a certain extent that's true..

…but I hate letting small market teams off the hook for doing dumb things. The Yankees aren’t the reason Pittsburgh hasn’t won diddle since the first Bush administration. It’s their terrible drafting record.

by Bitter Fan on Dec 6, 2009 1:26 PM PST up reply actions

Everyone does dumb things

Rich teams just get let off the hook for it.

I’m hoping to see a lot of blitzing on passing downs from our defense, and a lot of Alex Smith in the shotgun.

by Chimneyfish on Dec 6, 2009 12:24 PM PST reply actions

The 49ers paid him huge dollars

and aren’t using him in the offense. So they gave him a different avenue to suck balls.

by brundylop on Dec 6, 2009 1:49 PM PST up reply actions

Why do these announcers keep talking like none of this is Singletary’s fault? It’s disgusting.

If Bochy coached the Warriors Bengie Molina would start every game at PG.

by cybermaldonado on Dec 6, 2009 1:48 PM PST reply actions

Reverse on the kickoff is the stupidest football move I have ever seen in my life

Niners should be up 14 nothing but they are tied 7-7. The special teams coach should be fired. Jones is the worst returner ever

Another year, another chance to hope for the team !!

by FaStRmAn on Dec 6, 2009 1:48 PM PST reply actions

Seriously

You’re talking about two guys who can barely hold onto the ball on normal returns, and then they decide it’s a good idea to do that???

that td pass aside, I’ve seen matt hasslebeck make so many poor and/or dumb throws and then yell at his teammates for it. he’s annoying to watch

I think they are trying to throw the game

Only thing that can explain the stupidity of the play calls and the execution on the field
