Around SBN: Dissecting Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

Best NFL QB right now?

Is it Drew Brees, my personal favorite for the title..

or did Eli finally make the grade in winning more money, than his big brother, at the pro bowl, this year, after matching his siblings championship title?

Will Kurt Warner come back to be a shoe-in? or was Rothlisberger's winning drive, enough to win us all over?

Will Brady come back and seal the deal, that he is the best ever? or will Cassel, show everyone, he is the new kid in town..

Will Aaron Rodgers, have a break out year?

What about Mr. big mouth Jay cutler..or Philip Rivers and  how about the Jags David Garrard..

And what about Jamarcus??  ..ok scratch that thought..

Where would you put Chad and Brett?

..or the hottest topic of all.. Shaun and Alex?

Suuuersiouly wtf am I saying.

Brees I think. He’s just consistently on a higher level than most NFL QBs. I’d give a more thought-out response but I really need to be getting to sleep.

Peyton Manning is still the most consistent QB in league. A healthy Brady is close and sometimes better but there are games were Brady still coasts on his team mates efforts. Manning has never really had that luxury and produced playoff teams for years.

Um...
Brady still coasts on his team mates efforts. Manning has never really had that luxury

Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison, Dallas Clark, Edgerrin James, Joseph Addai…
Yeah, those guys are no good, right?

And we’ll just dismiss the fact that Peyton’s had one the the best O-Lines in the NFL for years.

I think Brady’s the league’s best. Brees a close second, and Peyton a distant third.

by shlecko on Feb 23, 2009 12:29 AM PST up reply actions

Agree.

If you’re going to penalize Brady for having good teammates, Manning should definitely take some of that as well.

I pretty much agree with shlecko’s list here, but maybe pulling Manning up a little closer than “distant” to Brees.

by sfgfan on Feb 23, 2009 8:59 AM PST up reply actions

I disagree. The Colts defense doesn’t last long without Manning constantly putting points on the board.

You know what Manning had to work with this year: Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark and he still got them to the playoffs. Harrison couldn’t get open and teams stopped drifting coverage towards him. Addai and the rest of the RB’s were banged up throughout the season.

Brady always had a great defense. Except for his monster 2007 season, Brady submitted plenty of sub par 200 yard passing games with scant touchdown totals.

Brees has more weapons than Manning at this point.

by bignerd on Feb 23, 2009 3:36 PM PST up reply actions

That's not ALL Manning had...

Anthony Gonzalez has developed into a real playmaker in the relative absence of Harrison’s game. The O-Line is still spectacular. And I don’t know what you’re talking about in dissing the Colts’ defense – they’re amazing. They’ve got one of the best pass rushes in the NFL, and a very, very talented secondary. Also, it wasn’t until the defense reached and elite level that Manning finally got his ring.

Meanwhile, Brady’s first super bowl came with a Patriots team that was filled with relative unknowns. That team has never had a top-tier halfback, and before Moss, Brady went years with a group of randoms at WR.

And don’t even try to pretend that Brees has a ton of weapons. Shockey is overrated, and Bush wouldn’t be half the player he is on any other team. Every other offensive weapon that the Saints have (Colston included) is good because Brees makes them good.

by shlecko on Feb 23, 2009 6:29 PM PST up reply actions

the patriots have had a pretty good O-line too

by gbears16 on Feb 24, 2009 4:35 PM PST up reply actions

Helped by the fact...

that Brady is the most disciplined pocket passer of our lifetime. He’s humble enough to give credit to the guys up front, but they’re smart enough to give it right back to him.

But yes, his O-Line is, indeed, very good.

by shlecko on Feb 24, 2009 6:50 PM PST up reply actions

It would be hard to say that Brady is that high right now. We really have no idea what he’s going to be able to do from a mobility standpoint, and how much that’s going to affect his production. Right now, he’s kind of a question mark. If he wasn’t one, the Pats wouldn’t have franchised Cassel.

Drew Brees

If the Saints had any kind of defense, they would be the class of the NFC. With Josh Daniels coming over to Denver, Jay Cutler should really develop.

Jim McMahon!

Steve Young said his play was inspired by the greatness of Jim McMahon, and that if the two of them were playing today, McMahon would be the greatest QB in the NFL!

Most definitely Tom Brady

Taking a team to 3 SB titles in itself is a good enough reason. Also, he has not had as many top-draw offensive weapons to work with at times as Peyton Manning has had.

Right now, though? His knee might have something to say about that.

Did you include Jim McMahon in the score? Because he’s got MY vote, GeoMak’s vote, Steve Young’s vote, aaaaaand maybe his own vote too.

Is it just me, or are my Jim McMahon jokes already wearing out their welcome?

All threads

The answer to each of your posed questions is… Jim McMahon!

I'm trying to laugh..

..but I can’t remember, one game that Jim McMahon was memorabl in other than the superbowl, I can’t even remember him in the playoffs that year?

But I have nothing against the guy, other than he beat usin the playoffs that year, I don’t even remeber him in that game?

And thus… My Jim McMahon jokes are wearing out their welcome.

I’ll now try to refrain from continuing them.

Peyton Manning is the best NFL QB

And I don’t even think it’s that close. I’m surprised by the number of people who disagree.
I don’t find the arguments about players surrounding Peyton vs Brees to be very compelling. It seems like Peyton makes them good. And watching Peyton play is like nothing else – he just orchestrates that offense so well, and has nearly perfect physical tools.

Don’t forget the three votes for Jim McMahon!

Anyone got that beating a dead horse gif? Never mind, I’ll do it myself…

I'm thinking but nothing's happening.

McMahon? Because he looked so good in sunglasses on the sidelines . . . or is that the best QB performance of all time?

by bignerd on Feb 25, 2009 1:18 PM PST up reply actions

..maybe the laughter thread..

I’m still crackin’ up..

See, JR .. ther just getting better, by the start of training, he just might be in the running with Shaun, and Alex..

by Josh G and the Shaun Hill band wagon on Feb 25, 2009 1:23 PM PST up reply actions

Come on, bignerd!

I’ve mentioned McMahon (mockingly) about 8 times now in all these QB threads! Have you missed ALL of them?

Not that I’d blame you if you did, but I mean… It’s been my recurring joke! Stemming from GeoMak’s proclamation that Jim McMahon was an elite QB because Steve Young said he learned how to throw a football from McMahon. See? It’s funny ’cause… Um… Shoot… It really would have been funny if it was topical. Like if GeoMak was still here.

I'm thinking but nothing's happening.
