Deuce McAllister a Free Agent......
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/saints/2009-02-17-mcallister-out_N.htm?csp=34
Sure, he’s 31 this year but he’s the workhorse that the 49ers would need, the “tough guy” in two-back smash-mouth system. In 2008, he split snaps with Reggie Bush in 13 games, rushing 107 attempts for 418 yards and 5 TDs, an AVG of 3.9 YPC. He also caught 18 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown. I’d say that’s pretty darn good for the second man in a two-back system. Did I mention no fumbles? Since the Saints drafted Reggie Bush in 2006, Deuce has ran 375 att for 1567 yds and 15 touchdowns in 31 games, an AVG. of 4.2 yds per carry. But he was scheduled to make north of $7 million in New Orleans this year. Just having reconstructive surgery on both knees, could he still be in that ball park? If so, then forget about it, but what else is out there? Anybody got some stats?
I am not necessarily advocating the signing of Deuce, just thought he'd be a good discussion starter... Here's his career stats, for kicks...

Oh and I forget about Pierre Thomas....
He had 6 TDs as a third string last season.. He would see the ball a whole lot more with his next team..
I'm probably getting a little confusing..
Deuce had 6 TDs as a third string, behind Pierre Thomas was the implied above..
A "possible" suspension...
Not for steroids.. For a substance called Bumetadine, used to cover steroids use in tests. Appearantly sold by a company as a legal substance unknowingly taken by players. He is set for an appeal.. but I haven’t been keeping on top of it.. Anyways, here is the story..
I've already mentioned him a couple times
Should be pretty cheap and a good fit for the Singletary/Raye style offense. I also think he’s got a better nose for the end zone than Gore.
Don't sweat it. I'm illiterate.
would like to see us draft someone
but I wouldn’t be against signing him short term
Simply by pulling on both ends, Patrick Willis can stretch diamonds back into coal
The skill to actually make an NFL roster
How’s that for starters?

Thomas Clayton is unproven..
.. believe me, I would love to hop on the Thomas Clayton bandwagon. But what has he proven? He was pretty good in the pre-season, but he is obviously lacking something or they would have gave him the ticket. Has anyone seen him practice? Maybe he’s not a good practice player, I don’t know.
As for the Draft… I don’t really see anybody that can really have the effect that McAllister would have as the workhorse running back.. There are no Hightowers this year. If anything, we would get someone that, at best, mirrors Gore’s abilities, but we need to satisfy the durability issue. These running backs take a beating back there and we can’t afford to have two guys struggling to stay healthy..
...and bring back Moran Norris!!
Gore rushed for 1,700 yards behind that guy… We should’ve kept him and got rid of Martz from the start..
"There are no Hightowers this year"
I’m not sure what this means. There are no rookie RB who can average 2.8 yards per carry? Hightower, by just about all accounts, was pretty lousy last year.
Don't sweat it. I'm illiterate.

Yea he was pretty lowsy this past season...
but I am 100% sure he is no bust. Watch out for him this year..
Basically I mean Hightower before he was drafted..
We don’t have any good prospects in this year’s draft at the 6’1" 230lbs variety.. You have a good prospect in LeSean McCoy but he is 5’10" 185 lbs.. DURABILITY ISSUES ACROSS THE BOARD.. The only one that did catch my eye was that Beanie Wells kid.. 6’1’’ 225lbs. and look him up on YouTube.. the kid’s got talent up the (explitive)…
rashad jennings
from liberty was impressive at the combine i think he started at pitt is freshman year but transferred to liberty to be close to his dad cuz he had diabetes hes 6’1" 231lbs and should be available in the later rounds
Singletary gave out plenty of .....
oppurtunities to J Hill and others so maybe Clayton doesn’t block well or something else there has to be a reason for the lack of plays in the game we will see next year there is plenty of ways to save money on the cap but holding on to dead weight doesn’t strike me as Singletary’s style.
Saints hasn’t even been able to use Deuce part time. His best game of the year was against the 49ers
So will Gore if he doens't get some help

Hmm
I’m a huge Saints fan, and I’ve been keeping up on the offseason this year more than any in the past.
And yet, somehow…I hadn’t considered this. But now that it’s brought up, I can’t help but see the potential of such a move. He’s definitely got the hard-nosed, downfield-running style that Singletary/Raye seem to be interested in. He’s a veteran and a great clubhouse presence. He’s got a wide range of tools – making an excellent 3rd down back. And the fact that he’s 31 would almost be countered by the fact that he’d be the second back in the system. Splitting carries would Gore would keep them both fresh with very little drop-off.
We’ve got the cap space, and he’s not really in a position to barter his worth too high.
I say this would be a great move.
meh
I’d be ok with this move but not too excited – worried about the health and possible suspension. Yes, we need someone to be a more present and capable back up to Frank than what we’ve had, and we need someone who has a nose for the end zone – but on the other hand, I think our red zone problems are as much the fault of the play calling and the OL play as they are the fault of Gore, probably more so.
Still defending Rich Aurilia, and the Niners' classic unis
