Torry Holt Released
They finally released him, now it is time to get Issac Bruce to tell him about all the wonderful things here so he can sign but here is the story from profootballtalk.com
The St. Louis Rams announced today that they have cut veteran wide receiver Torry Holt
, ending his tenure in St. Louis after a decade.
“The Rams will forever be grateful for the way Torry Holt represented the Rams on the feld and in the community,” Rams owner Chip Rosenbloom said in a statement. “He is an All-Pro in every sense of the word. Over the past 10 seasons, Torry has proven himself to be one of the finest receivers in league history.
“This is a difficult decision because Torry has meant so much to the organization. In my mind and for all Rams fans, Torry will always be a Ram and we wish him and his family nothing but the best as they move forward.”
Holt joins former Rams offensive tackle Orlando Pace
, who was cut by the Rams, on the NFL free agent list.
Holt ranks 11th on the NFL
charts with 869 catches and 14th overall with 12,660 yards.
“Torry Holt has had an outstanding career here in St. Louis,” Rams General Manager Billy Devaney
said.

I think
Torry wants to play with his brother, but is his brother even on a team right now?
I think the Panthers cut him last season and he signed with the Saints, but is he under contract with the Saints (Terrence Holt)?
Either way, if we can get Torry Holt to come to and join our Corps, that’d be AWESOME! Just don’t tell the me of 5 years ago that.

If he's still there...
… if/when Bruce announces his retirement, by all means go for him. As it stands right now, though, Holt may not necessarily be that useful on a team that already has Bruce. At least not useful enough to prevent two possibly promising youngsters from starting.
I somewhat agree
I’d like to see the young guys get their shot too, I would, however, I think it would be great for the youngsters to learn from two professionals like Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce.
I’m not too worried about it though, because I have a gut feeling Torry won’t be signing with the 49ers. While other teams may have already addressed the need at WR by signing a high profile guy (Seattle, Cincy, & Buffalo), a team like Philadelphia could throw some money Holts way (especially if Donovan McNabb has anything to say about it). In other words, I think Holt will get far richer offers from elsewhere.

Agreed
Though I think he’d help the team immediately, he’d also slow down the progress of Morgan/Hill. Holt would be a great replacement to Bruce if he chooses to retire.

Holt and Harrison
Now it seems between Torry Holt and Marvin Harrison, the Niners have multiple veteran options to look at rather than going through the draft, if we are indeed still looking for a receiver. I would definitely prefer one of these two guys, regardless of price, than drafting a receiver. I’m far more intrigued by the idea of our current young receivers getting to learn and play under multiple vets (along with Ike Bruce).
I remember some people saying that about Bruce last off-season.

I wasn't one of them.
And those who said that about Bruce were only vocalizing speculation. He was aging, but not getting older – so to speak.
Harrison, on the other hand, has been pretty bad these past few seasons. There’s a ton of tape out there that shows that he’s lost his speed, his quickness, and perhaps even his willingness to take the big hits. He’s a possession WR on the wrong side of 35, and I haven’t heard from many scouts who’ve had good things to say about him recently.
Two totally different stories, Bruce and Harrison are.
I said it in the middle of the year.
But to my credit, he looked like a total piece of useless, toasted, broke-down crap in the middle of the year.

I'd prefer Holt to Harrison
Esp. if Bruce retires. I think we need one solid vet WR this coming season. Bruce could be that but I don’t think that should stop us from… kicking the tires seems to be the most popular phrase this offseason, on Holt.
His Bro’s not bad either, decent special teams player and backup safety
well he still got some left in him. I wouldn’t mind picking him up.

well
if we’re looking for a reciever, i’d likie to draft jeremy maclin for mizzou. but that’s just me.
i say
if bruce comes back we shouldnt go for holt cuz we should let our young guys have a chance but if bruce leaves we should bring in holt cuz we need at least one veteran to tutor our young guys while making plays for us as well
Get him
I think Holt would be a great pick up for a team filled with young talent at wide receiver and I don’t really think it would slow down the progession of Hill or Morgan. Most wr need 3 years to gather a real understanding of route running and reading defenses. I think having Bruce last year helped them so now why not bring in one more vet. who may be able to show them a little more. I use to hate playing the 99 -03 rams because I knew Holt was going to run those routes so precise. 31? Shoot he’s way younger than T.O.! Lets get him
"Of all the things in the world losing isn't so bad; it just starts to feel like it does when you do it for so long"
I don't see it happening
I think Holt would certainly be a good acquisition, but something tells me the Niners aren’t interested. I think they’re happy with the receivers they have. If Bruce comes back I really think there’s no way we go after Holt. If Bruce retires, then there’s a chance.
I think if we have Bruce back, if we then added Holt, our young guys would never play.

Agreed
Question is-if we are interested in signing Holt, but dont want the two of them, do we just wait for Bruce to make his mind up on whether he’s retiring or not? In which case we could miss out on both.
Or, do we sign Holt anyway and then cut Bruce?

good question
something tells me we won’t cut Bruce – but they could pressure him to retire or at least to decide sooner.
