Dolphins release veteran DE Holliday
Could be an interesting signing. Of course at 33, it's hard to say how much he has left in the tank, but maybe some one for the Niners to consider?

3-4
The Dolphins ran some 3-4 last year and we could certainly use some help at defensive end. Of course, I’m not really sure a 33-year old defensive end is the answer. So I figured I’d move this to the front and see if anybody had any thoughts on the matter.
Thanks to 49erLou for getting this up.

oh man!
Front page! Thanks Fooch.
All in all I don’t think it would be a terrible move, especially in what he could bring to the rookies we get in the next 2 or 3 years. For the right price I say go for it. Who knows he could be another TKO Spikes.
Simply by pulling on both ends, Patrick Willis can stretch diamonds back into coal

Wouldn't hate it, but if we are shooting out names, why not Jason Taylor...
I know it’s pretty much a stop gap solution and I hope it would only be a year long contract, but why not? He’s better than any one we have now to start opposite of Justin Smith and he could definitely play a big role in helping Kentwan Balmer mature. Besides truthfully, everything in the NFL now a days is a stop gap solution. Besides from a select few, most players spend at the most 3 to 4 years with one team before going to a new team. That’s why I have never believed that much in “restructuring” and “building for the future”. If you want to make an impact now you can do it, it may not be pretty, but you can do it. "why not Jason Taylor..."
Because a 3-4 defense with Smith and Taylor at DE would get run all over.
Don't sweat it. I'm illiterate.

I was initially excited when I saw this since he's a former UNC guy and I remember him very fondly
However, at his current age I feel that he could be a quality-ish player in a good rotation but only for another year or two and we’re not quite at the point where we need that at that position. We really need to focus on developing our young lines to have success in the future. If he was a FS or RT I would feel differently.

I agree with this response.
I’d like him in any rotation the 49ers can put out there for their line, but at this point, the 49ers don’t need that kind of player. It’d be nice to see what last year’s first round pick can do with some significant time rotating in at LDE. It’d also be nice to see what the guy they just gave a fairly decent extension to last year (Sopoaga) can do in that same rotation.
