Donald Strickland signs with the Jets
Fooch's Note: Confirmed by everybody else. Here's the Barrows link.
*** as per Mike Florio from ProFootballTalk.com.
Sorry to see him go, but with the emergence of Brown and Spencer, there is no need to keep him and his contract around, we have plenty of CB depth. It makes sense he goes to the Jets, he had a dirty, shut-down game against them, starting in place of Clements (5 tackles, no big plays).

farewell Donald
he was a decent, but ultimately forgettable Niner. 10 years from now he’ll be a great obscure reference to the late 2000’s teams.
Still defending Rich Aurilia, and the Niners' classic unis

but with the emergence of Brown and Spencer… (?) When and where, may I ask? Spencer signed a big contract and then…… disappeared.

I meant as backups
We are long on CBs, so someone obviously had to go, otherwise we would be paying roster bonuses and salaries to CBs that would eventually get cut during the pre-season to make room for more valuable back-ups. I think there is more of a future for Brown and Spencer, especially in a starting, or a nickel/dime role, than Strickland would have.
Plus, its becoming apparent that Sing wants to make a semi-youth movement for this team. Strickland doesn’t fit into those plans.
Blind devotion.

Spencer...
was given a chance to shine in the past. The 49ers even signed him to a nice contract after his one good year. His job was taken away by Walt Harris who is 8 years older. Maybe there is more room for argument with Brown. He hasn’t seen much action and might actually be the CB of the future for the team.
