Bryant Young Award?
Bryant Young is an 8-time winner of the Len Eshmont Award, and he is the definition of team before self, and quiet leadership, much beloved by the fans, a steadfast and caring Christian, and undoubtably one of the most punishing defensive players ever to dawn the gold and red.
He WAS the Len Eshmont award for 8 years, and had the love and respect of everyone on and off the field. He was the heart and soul of the defense and the heart and soul of the team for many a year.
Understand though that Len Eshmont was part of the original 1946 Forty Niners, and died from infectious hepatitis in 1957.
What is your opinion of this?
Personally, I would rename it the Bryant Young award.
The Len Eshmont Award, the 49ers most prestigious annual honor, is an award given to the Niner who best exemplifies the "inspirational and courageous play" of Len Eshmont, a player from the original 1946 Forty Niners team.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

The award is named after someone else for a reason. The fact that he won it so many times is recognition of what a great person he was and I’m sure they will find another way for players to honor his legacy, just as he did for Eshmont’s.
This happens a lot in sports, especially with awards inside an organization.

No way
I love Bryant Young as much as the next guy (no homo) but part of the niners is sticking to the intense history we have had for so long. Sorry, but no
Blind devotion.

I think there must be a lot of ways to honor and remember Bryant Young without eliminating one of the few things that gives anybody a reason to even know who Len Eshmont was. It’s sad that the Len Eshmont award is one of the few things that keeps him recognized among the 49er layfan, but it’s also a testament to the importance of keeping the award exactly the way it is.

How about...
a Bryant Young award to the best DL on the team? Is there already one? I know the OL’s have one named for Coach Mc.

But would Sing sound as cool saying that at press conferences?

I think his number will be retired
That’s pretty high praise. When (if) a new stadium is built, if it isn’t named after a corporate sponsor, it should be named after Bill Walsh, imho.
Never forget Bill Walsh.

or go the college route
name it Walsh Field at ExxonMobile Stadium (or whoever pays for it)
Other than death and taxes, only 4 things in this world are indisputable:
Brandon Roy is the BEST player in the NBA in the clutch.
Montana to Rice were the greatest to ever play the game.
The Four Horsemen of Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine and Avery were unstoppable.
