Best Football Rivalry?
What is the best Rivalry in Football today?
Imho, the 49ers and Cowboys, in the 90's, was unparralleled. I'll never forget, Ricky Jackson, while on the 49ers, literally, knocking out Emmitt Smith, in the backfield, after comming unblocked, on a run play, at candlestick park. It was the most breathtaking play, I have ever seen, at a game, where I was in attendance.
But, besides that play, the rivarly was even more breathtaking.. nothing was more intimidating than Aikman, Harper, and Irving, coming to town. The picture of Alvin Harper, jumping 20 feet high, to grab a downfield ball, to put the Cowboys in scoring range, still scars my mind.
Most of this Rivalry started from "The catch".. Montana's pass to Clark, that sent the Cowboys packing, and put the 49ers in their 1st superbowl... But, It wasn't untill the Young/ Aikman era, that it realized.
So, who is the best rivarly today?
Colts/ Pats?
And let's not forget about, other great Rivalries, like Steelers/ Raiders?
And my personal favorite question on the topic..
What is your most memorable play from a rivalry game?
(and no it doesn't have to be a legendary rival, it could be two teams from the same division, or two playoffs teams, that met regulary, for consecutive years. Just want to hear some great memories!)

good post josh g
I think Steelers/Ravens are a pretty good rivalry right now, I always like the Redskins and Cowboys as alot of the people I know are either Skins or Cowboys fans and they both get pretty serious when they play each other.

my most memorable play would be the T.O catch against GB in the playoffs. I considered the Pack a rival back then, and boy was it great to see that look on Farve’s face after T.O made that catch.

2004 - Niners vs. Cardinals Rivalry
First game, October 10, 2004 – 49ers 31 Cardinals 28 OT
After trailing 28-12 (in the 4th quarter), the 49ers were lead on a frantic, come from behind victory via Tim Rattay’s arm, and some sweet Brandon Lloyd grabs. Ratty passed for 417 yards and 2 TDs, while Eric Johnson had 13 grabs for 161 yards and a TD. Lloyd caught a 23-yard TD in the 4th quarter and then hauled in the two point grab to tie the game.
Game two, December 12, 2004 – 49ers 31 Cardinals 28 OT
This time it was Ken Dorsey that helped lead the 49ers to victory, throwing for 171 yards and 3 TDs. Maurice Hicks was the RB who sealed the game in OT, by running for 137 yards and setting up another Peterson FG in OT to thwart the Cards. The 49ers led 28-3 at one point, but 18 4th quarter points by the Cardinals sent the game into OT. The 49ers hang on to win, and these two OT victories, were the only 2 of the 2004 season.

I remember Rattay putting up 417 and thinking we might be ok with him as our QB lol. Good choices though man.

I agree...
Steelers/Ravens. I could care less about these two teams otherwise, but man, when they play each other. Wow! Great football. Even though they both kind of stink right now, I like watching Packers/Bears games too. Old school.
Never forget Bill Walsh.

I guess..
..even if he leaves, ther will always be a rivalry between the 2. Yeah, just those 2 on the field together is enough trash talking, to make anyone wanna see what’s going to happen next.

Now
Colts/Pats is dying out. Maybe Steelers/Ravens. Also we might be seeing Us and the Cardinals. The MNF last year was pretty close and seeing how we are improving it might get intense of the next couple of years.
Cal-Stanford
just kidding. I think Steelers/Ravens might be the best right now. It’s too bad the Niners don’t have a stand-out heated historic rivalry the way the Giants do with the Dodgers. Maybe if there was an NFC west team in LA.
The AFC west – OAK/KC KC/DEN, etc, the NFC north – MIN/CHI, CHI/GB, and the NFC East – DAL/WAS DAL/NYG have some decent rivalries as well.
Still defending Rich Aurilia, and the Niners' classic unis

Best rivalry in the NFL...
Colts/Pats has died down alil bit but I’d still have it up there as long as Brady and Manning are around. I’d have to probably go with Cowgirls/Giants or Charger/Pats. Maybe Rams/9ers eventhough both teams haven’t been that great, the rivalry has always been great.
Fans stuck in the 80's are lame. Respect the past, live in the now.
