Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Bye Bye Bruce

Heard on my local sports radio station that Isaac Bruce will officially retire this week.  It comes as no surprise now that Martz is gone along with  the plethora of young recievers we have on our roster and are hoping to get some playing time for.  He had a decent year for us, hopefully he was able to teach Morgan and Hill a few things of value before he left.

My ideal recieving lineup (assuming we dont draft any top guys):

1. Josh Morgan

2. Brandon Jones

3. Jason Hill

4. Arnaz Battle (3rd downs)

Sad, but it was fun while it lasted

Bruce as a Niner is still weird to me, but he did provide me with some found memories in the Red and Gold. It was nice to see him set milestones against the Rams in St. Louis. It was also nice to see a consistent WR on the 49ers roster that could surpass Arnaz Battle numbers.

Here`s hoping the team drafts Crabtree at 10, if they stick around at 10, and if Crab is there.

no offense

but I will believe it when I see a link.

Simply by pulling on both ends, Patrick Willis can stretch diamonds back into coal

I'm still searching..

For a link. Ill post it, when i find one.

no link but...

the closest I found was from a Chronicle article:

Isaac Bruce has been given an April 1 deadline to tell the team whether he intends to return. His silence indicates he is not returning.

APRIL FOOLS!

j/k – but that means he still has a day left..

Still defending Rich Aurilia, and the Niners' classic unis

good deal

I would love him to stay, but I guess I didn’t really expect him to stick around. Like MTNA2RC said, let’s hope Morgan and Hill learned as much as they could from him.

F U BRUUUUUUUUUCE!

Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.

by bayboy on Mar 31, 2009 1:06 PM PDT reply actions

Let’s focus on what we do have and say good bye to bruce…. I can’t see Bruce occupying attention from safeties next year. Let Morgan, Hill, Davis and Walker take care of that so that Gore can run wild!!

Would Bruce retire if

Martz was still around?

Damn it!

I don’t believe Bruce will retire until it is confirmed. I hope Bruce comes back for another year and be a mentor to our young receivers. The young receivers will benefit more from his return (if he does) than the 49ers IMO.

Bruce come backkkk!!

We need a veteran receiver to show the way for the young’ns!!

Google News

i did a Google News search and still found nothing. I might put up an “Isaac Bruce Watch” thread tomorrow morning since it’s decision day. We’ll see.

I see Jason Hill getting a head up on Jones

Fans stuck in the 80's are lame. Respect the past, live in the now.

by maveric_87 on Mar 31, 2009 2:00 PM PDT reply actions

I don't.

The 49ers already had Jones slated to compete for the spot opposite Bruce. With Bruce gone, Jones will be the most likely one to get a starting job (based on his salary alone). Hill will actually have to show he’s a better option in order to sideline Jones on base-sets.

If Bruce retires

It’ll be interesting to see which of the niners young receivers will step up and become the leader of the WR’s

Morgan

If we dont get a #1 and Bruce retires ne1 think morgan can have a breakout year as a #1?

by Italian King on Mar 31, 2009 5:45 PM PDT reply actions

I think even if Bruce

comes back, Morgan is having a breakout year, but that might just be me.

I don't think Bruce is coming back..

But I agree with Josh Morgan having a break out year, as long as Shaun is starting.

by Josh G and the Shaun Hill band wagon on Mar 31, 2009 7:49 PM PDT up reply actions

yup

argree with that cuz alex smith cannot make a receiver look good with averaging 150-200 yd per game especially since i havent seen him find the endzone alot

by big beaner on Mar 31, 2009 8:15 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't think Bruce will be back either

I was just saying hypothetically if he had a last minute change of heart I still think we are gonna see some good things from Josh Morgan this year.

Believe me..

..I would be so happy if Bruce came back for one more year..

agreed

I would be happy if he came back for at least 1 more year. I think he could still make an impact

Bruce

As soon as 1April comes and goes with Bruce not resigning we should immediately sign Torry Holt as a replacement and have him as our #1 WR for the next 2yrs at least.

by Ninerfromacrossthepond on Mar 31, 2009 6:57 PM PDT reply actions

Probably..

.. a very wise idea.. even if it was an expensive 1 year deal.

by Josh G and the Shaun Hill band wagon on Mar 31, 2009 7:50 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree, just not on the expensive deal though

by sundaysfinest on Mar 31, 2009 8:16 PM PDT up reply actions

Well.

the Yorks, probably wouldn;t cough it up anyways..

by Josh G and the Shaun Hill band wagon on Mar 31, 2009 8:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Really?

They’ve coughed up quite a bit of money lately. As a matter of fact, it doesn’t even seem like the Yorks are controlling the salary cap anymore. If they were, there’s no way Brandon Jones would have gotten $5M guaranteed.

by sfgfan on Apr 1, 2009 9:35 AM PDT up reply actions

I don' t think so

I don’ think that the 49ers would sign Holt. The Jags and someone else is interested in him. He would be too expensive. I say they sign Toomer for less if they want a veteran.

by iaalexeeff on Mar 31, 2009 8:57 PM PDT up reply actions

Sorry guys...

false alarm. Looks like you can’t believe everything you hear on the radio. But thats great news! Probably means we dont draft a top flight reciever though.

by MTNA2RC on Apr 1, 2009 11:08 AM PDT reply actions

Not necessarily.

Considering a WR tends to take two to four years to develop, the team taking on this draft isn’t entirely out of the question.

by sfgfan on Apr 1, 2009 11:14 AM PDT up reply actions

he may be an old man but he still burns the rest of them.

lets not forget. bruce is still the man that every safety worries about and love to double cover no matter what his age is. that man is versatile. Im happy with our receivers lineup. Isaac Bruce, Brandon Jones, Josh Morgan and Jason Hill. These are great receivers and have proven their worth ten fold. now we just need that special guy to pass the ball to them. Shaun Hill or Mark Sanchez?..thats the real question..
