Torry Holt Expected to Be Released
According to NFL Network Torry Holt has asked for his release, and it is apparently close to happening. Of course with T.O.s release they are saying he might end up in Dallas.
By the way I couldn't find a NFL.Com link so I cited a fellow SB Nation Blog.

Holt
Not surprising if it happens, but again, another veteran out the door.
All of this is amazing timing as I was already starting to write a wide receiver post for tomorrow morning when the TO stuff went down. More on that at 8am pacific time tomorrow.
It wouldn't surprise me if he did go to Dallas...
But I would love to see him take over Issac Bruce’s role and not only upgrade our receiving core but also mentor the younger receivers.

Do you mean receiving corps? Whenever I see “receiving core” I can’t stop picturing an apple core running down the field cutting to the middle and its stem popping off when it runs into Taylor Mays (a la this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLD33s7V7EU ).
Throwback unis? Yes. Throwback afros? YES!
Perhaps, but he might also be in Jail for up to 3 years, so let's wait on that.

Shooting yourself is one thing but....
wearing sweatpants to a New York City night club? What a d-bag.
Hot dogs, get your hot dogs.
seriously
I’ve put together a recap post scheduled to go up at 4:30am tomorrow so people can know where to find all these threads. Nine different posts and two fron page FanShots in one day. Ridiculous.

numbers
Actually his decline really wasn’t all that bad until this last season. The season before, in 2008, he still had 93 receptions, 1189 yards and 7 TDs

sorry, i meant the season before being 2007 was solid
Actually, this is pretty amazing, here are his 2006 and 2007 stats:
2006: 93 receptions, 1188 yards, 10 TDs
2007: 93 receptions, 1189 yards, 7 TDs
I think in 2007 he started off a bit slow but finished strong (or maybe it was the reverse, I can’t remember).

Regardless he is a significant upgrade over any WRs we currently have on the roster...
especially if Bruce doesn’t come back.

Clearly
I would love to have Torry Holt. I just wonder if he fits the McSingleRaye mold of receiver. Anyone know anything about his blocking? It seems to make more sense for him to take over Owens’ #1 spot than the Niners’.
Throwback unis? Yes. Throwback afros? YES!
let sign him
him and bruce could take us back to the playoff.

Turf show times
It’s funny to see some of the comments on their site, they hope Holt doesn’t make his way to the bay because “it would be too much to see Holt and Bruce with the niners.” I think we have to make a run at either TO or Holt, we need someone to make the safeties play back and let Gore rumble.
Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.
Makes ya wonder..
Bruce and holt? As long as we get Bruce back and Shaun has an outlet reciever, who can find open feild when Shaun is rolling out, I think we’ll be fine, but if he doesn’t, than Holt has to be something to consider.
