Interesting...
Just thought this was interesting. A post about Alex Smith before he was even drafted by the 49ers, A little different back then huh? (is it just me or does he even look stronger back then than he is now?)
I'm still an Alex Smith fan personally, the guy seems to be really down to earth and if you give him a coordinator for 2 years (lets hope with Jimmy Raye this year) then maybe he can put up the kind of numbers we all expected of him this late in his career with the Niners.
Although obviously Alex Smiths career has been disappointing, arnt you guys glad that the guy isnt a douche like Mr. Jay Cutler? I'm glad we're keeping him

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

Best line
San Francisco coach Mike Nolan traveled to Utah with 49ers receivers Arnaz Battle and Brandon Lloyd so the club could watch while Smith threw to NFL players
I don’t think Brandon Lloyd qualifies as an NFL player.

haha
Very true, but we were still deceived into thinking differently back then! Good thing we traded him, though didn’t we get Brandon Williams the WR from Nebraska for him? He didnt do much better…

Not much better...
… but definitely a lot cheaper!

Careful...

Pending Cutler being traded somewhere else other than the Bay area, we aren’t too sure of this yet…
Blind devotion.

No, because he’s not, the organization still sympathizes over Smith. I wish the 49ers could trade Smith for a 1st day draft pick but this is obviously unlikely

maturity
Smith showed far more at 20, than Cutler does now. That doesn’t make him a success, but at least it makes me still root for him. Still not sure if I’m wasting my time or not…. Coincidence that the two biggest QB dramas in the last 2 yrs are from guys with the same agent? (Favre, Cutler) Also, the #1 & #2 INT throwers last year. still, there’s no denying Cutler’s talent—but it’ll be curious to see how he performs with a group of marginal (that may be overstating it!) receivers in Bear-land.
