Who's the Best GM in The Bay Area?
In one corner, representing the San Francisco Giants, we have Brian Sabean. He's brought the Bay players like Armando Benitez, Barry Zito, and Edgar Rentaria.
In the other corner, representing the San Francisco 49ers, the one the only Scot McCloughan. Scot who has allowed the 49ers to have a well drassed Nolan for a sub-par 3 and a half years(2005, 2006,2007, 2008). The 49ers are on the brink of possibly becoming a playoff team this upcoming year, signings like Brandon Jones, Demetric Evans, Damon Haurd, Marvel Smith, and Mornan Norris really gives the 49ers a playoff team-esque feel.
Lastly to make this a match of the ages, we'll add 1 more contestant, Chris Mullin who I think is GM for the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors have refused to play defense this entire year, but he was the last GM out of the 3 5 to make it to the playoffs.
UPDATE
Billy Beane the Oakland A's manager, known for being a charity. By that I mean giving away great players, for example Hudson Street and Rich Harden.
A GM who needs no introduction, but I'll give him one anyways. He has built his Raider regime around fast players, leather jackets, unpaid contracts, and firing personnel at will. Mr. Al "You don't adjust. You just dominate." Davis.
Note: Due to new contestants, the ring will now form the shape of a pentagon so that there are now 5 corners.
Extra Credit - Obviously a ring doesn't have 4 corners. So, Why do boxers call their "platform" a ring?

The Warriors are in Oakland, so the poll should be extended to include Billy Beane and Al Davis.
Yes I’m a Giants fan, but I’d vote for Beane in a heartbeat.
I'm thinking but nothing's happening.
Exactly.
Sabean’s a Bum. Only people outside the organization will say so, while everyone in the organization knows it. Favorite Sabean moment- when he tried to rip into Ralph Barbieri and ‘the media’ for forcing his hand to trade Benitez when he did. Oh, and bringing Tyler Walker back for a second go-round last year, that was awesome. This guy should be banished from the city.
Walker
I actually liked the Walker signing. Kind of an extremely low risk, decent reward kind of scenario that the Giants were in with him. He isn’t a great pitcher by any means, but he had some decent stretches in the past. Not much more you ask from a guy if you’re paying him close to the minimum you can.
The only decent reward
He gave me was someone on the field to boo. That guy was junk. Some people just are not major leaguers. Hey, I’m not one either.
He got the home-town likeability chance- that’s the only reason we brought him back. On second thought, Sabean’s a genius!- He went out and got a guy to suck up all the negative energy from the fans and not let it effect the rest of the team!
Perfect Sabean example: Bullpen- Feel free to let Scott Eyre walk, a shut down Lefty setup guy, and bring back Walker..
Wait, this is a Niner post- I digress.
I didn't mind letting Eyre walk...
… as his tag was starting to get up there. What I DID disagree with was bringing in what’s his face (Kline?) for not much less.
chris mullin is solid
brought in baron davis, stephen jackson,al harrington, matt barnes, drafted a steal in Monta Ellis, got biedrins, brought in undrafted rookies that have paid dividends (anthony morrow (led the league in 3 PT shooting %), kelenna azubuike), drafted a future superstar in Anthony Randolph but he also made dumb moves by giving PHAT contracts to adonal foyle and derek fisher and of course trading Jason Richardson, but i think he could be a viable GM nonetheless
The thing about Mullin
Is that the majority of his good moves have been draft picks and undrafted role players who thrive in Nelly’s run and gun system. I don’t know how much credit for those moves Mullin should get and how much should go to scouts and Nelson respectively.
If you just look at trades and big free agent signings then Mullin becomes a bit more questionable, probably making more mistakes than great moves.
Also, his relationship with Nelson seems like it’s starting to get strained. We’ll see if he can regain control of the team from Nelly.
The best GM in the bay area....
is Doug Wilson hands down. But apparently San Jose isn’t part of the Bay Area so I guess Beane gets the vote.
How 'bout them.....oh wait....**** the cowboys
Well if you want to get all technical and make it about the whole Bay Area, I’d vote Wilson too. And I don’t even follow hockey!
Crap, can this poll be redone one more time? And if so, can I recast my vote?
I'm thinking but nothing's happening.

I added Doug Wilson. If you want to vote for Wilson, log out and go to the FanPost to vote. Then log back in after voting.

Wow, Sabes is in dead last with a grand total of zero votes so far! Ouch!
I'm thinking but nothing's happening.
I think...
… I would take “Sabes of the last two years” over “Mullin of the past two years”. However, there’s a large chunk in the middle of Sabean’s tenure in SF that is a giant abyss in terms of wins, prospects, and smart money management.
Wilson...
… is very good, for sure. However, I don’t know about “hands down.” If part of being a GM is bringing in a coach that will help you win a championship, Wilson has seemed to fail at just that. Not that it’s entirely his fault, as his primary job is to put the coach in a position to win, but he does choose the coach, if I’m not mistaken.
Billy Beane
And its not even close, the guy does way more with less then anyone in the Bay Area and most of professional sports. And who is Hudson Street? Is that tim hudson and huston streets’ gay love child or something?
Re:
just for fun, Al Davis…
hey, i gotta call you on overuse of the strike-through.
When the aliens land and say, "Take me to your leader," I'm taking them to you Fooch!
Oh that was just for editing purposes
.. No Fun votes for Sabes still???

In McCloughan's defense
Nolan was GM up until last season, McClougan was just a personnel guy/draft expert.
Last offseason was when Nolan was stripped and McCloughan was handed the keys as the GM, and Nolan relegated to coach.

I don't know who's the best
But I do know who the worst.

Beane
Supraman you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about if you’re synopsis of Beane’s work is “giving away” Street and Harden. Street is far from a great player. Harden might be great when he’s actually healthy but he was never healthy in Oakland.
Don't sweat it. I'm illiterate.
just fantastic
I don’t see how you can justify voting for him over anybody except maybe Al Davis.

Sabean or Davis as worst ... it's no question!
Sabean appears to be your run-on-the-mill mediocre GM. Doesn’t seem to understand how to win with the team he has. His vets-first strategy might have made sense when Bonds was still dominating, but not now.
Davis, on the other time, is almost insane: He undercuts and then drives away talented coaches. He drafts players he could EASILY get much later in the draft, depriving his team of much-needed talent. Plus, he actively alienated the fan base: I was 11 when the team moved away, and almost all my childhood friends would have been Raider fans if he hadn’t ripped our hearts out – but that’s not forgiveable, and almost all of us have remained Niner fans even when the Raiders came back. He’s created an environment where anybody remotely qualified is not interested in taking the head coaching job.
Beane hands down. and probably Wilson not far behind. Beane gets more bang for the buck plus he keeps the team competitive.
Sabean in my opinion probably one of the worst. spending too much on over the hill players and not bringing in young good talent. Whats is the Giants phillosphy on young players anyway?

If I didn't know any better...
… it’s bring-em-up-to-sit-em-down. But it’s definitely fun getting to watch Sandoval play third. I think I can safely speak for most Giants fans when I say the next two or three years are going to be a lot of fun, in terms of youth that is.
Al Davis Comedy Vote
It’s actually Billy Beane, though.
