Drafftek Mock
The latest Drafttek simulation has a draft for the 49ers that I'd be pretty happy with. They rate most of the picks (that they think we'll make) pretty well as "value" as opposed to "reach." Check it out yourself for all the data. Anyone else like this draft? I have to admit I don't know all of these guys and theres only one potential pass rusher. but we do get 2 linemen (including Smith), McCoy, a sleeper QB, a FS and a WR
1 Andre Smith - OT - Alabama
2. Lesean Mccoy - RB - Pitt
3. Mitch King - LB - Iowa
4. Stephen Mcgee - QB - Texas A&M
5. Patrick Turner - WR - USF
5a. Curtis Taylor - FS - LSU
6. Bruce Johnson - CB - MIami
7. Louis Vasquez - OG - Texas Tech
7A. Reshard Langford - SS - Vanderbilt

Im sorry Turner is the huge WR from Southern Cal, not UCF. Worth picking up for the future as a big Red Zone target I tihnk
Redzone target??
Couldn’t dind the endzone much in college may wind up being just a target and not a reliable option. OLB with the 2nd and Barden with the 3rd
Dont' really like it
With that much though and calculations, it could be much better.
MURS for President!!!!!!!
There's not really much thought...
… in Draftek’s methods. They get people to help them rate a team’s needs. Then they collect enough data to come up with a “consensus” big board that ranks at least 7 rounds worth of players. Then they let the computer just compare need vs what’s available, trying not to reach too far for a pick.
It’s a little too simplistic to be anywhere near possible. Once the big board gets into the 100s, many team’s big boards get DRAMATICALLY different, where a player a team may rate as a third rounder is a fifth rounder for another team. Not to mention, a reach of 20 in round four isn’t as severe as a reach of 20 in round two, so teams IRL are more willing to take a jump to get “their guy” and not feel it’s a terrible reach.

I'm staying
with my same mock draft since the very beginning, but the 1st round is going to be very difficult. I’m 99.9% sure we are getting an OT. The reason I’m so sure of this is because I feel that Sing is happy with the guys he already has at defense but will draft defensive players after 1st round and he also wants a punishing run “with passing” offense and with an OT in the 1st round he will be that much closer to having one. =)
2nd round – DE Connor Barwin
3rd round – RB Rashad Jennings
4th round – NT Sammie Lee Hill
5th round – OLB Jason Williams
5th round – WR Austin Collie
6th round – FB Jorvorskie Lane
7th round – FS Lendy Holmes
7th round – QB David Johnson
GO NINERS!
while i like the idea of getting a receiver
what we probably dont need is a possession receiver. we have quite a few of them. what we need is a burner or an elite WR. you dont get elite WR in the 5th round so we should look at a speed burner
Other than death and taxes, only 4 things in this world are indisputable:
Brandon Roy is the BEST player in the NBA in the clutch.
Montana to Rice were the greatest to ever play the game.
The Four Horsemen of Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine and Avery were unstoppable.
No one protects the pipes like Luongo.

Disagree.
If by possession, you mean someone who can go up and get the ball no matter the situation, I think the 49ers sorely need a red zone threat. Couple that with McCloughan’s preference for “bigger” WRs, I think that it’s highly likely the 49ers take a possession WR in this draft.
we have no down the field presence
only WC style receivers.

Not sure about the placement
I’m firmly against drafting skill position players on defense in the late rounds. Talent at CB/FS/SS simply doesn’t exist after rounds 2-3. Drafting offense in 4 of the first 5 rounds would be a failed draft.
Niners should be looking defense in rounds 1-3, QB/HB/WR/OL in rounds 4-7.
McCoy would be an interesting pick in round 2 though if the Niners drafted a CB/DE/OLB in round 1. I think McCoy is the best RB in this draft, but possibly not an every down back as a rookie.
Rays in '08.... Desmond Jennings - the breakout continues.....
Complementary or Short-Yardage RB?
I see a lot of posts discussing RBs expected to be taken in the 2nd round, but everything I’ve heard on the subject from the Matts & McCloughan & Sing is that they are looking for a big(210+) mid-round(3-5) guy who can both spell Gore and pick up the short yardage. I don’t think they’re looking for a “2nd punch” back, just a good short-yardage guy. And I think McClo is philosophically opposed to drafting RBs in rounds 1-2.
But you’re exactly right about drafting D in the early rounds – just looking at the difference in measurables between 1-2 CBs and 4-5 CBs shows the fast dropoff in athleticism. The exception this year may be for pass rushers – 4th round guys like Cody Wallace and D. Veikune have similar measureables and production to English and Sintim.
I still dont like the Andre Smith pick
but the rest I am fine with

Pass rush
Am I the only one who remembers the team not coming close to hitting a QB on most plays and the team having the fewest sacks in the league? Maybin at 10, OT in the 2nd, RB in the 3rd
boo on maybin
get orakpo

Orakpo's....
… probably not going to last until #10. Realistically, the 49ers will probably be lucky if they’re even looking at an available Everette Brown at #10.
i dont disagree with you
but that doesnt mean i have to settle for maybin

True.
I don’t like Maybin. If Orakpo and Brown are gone, I’d look for Crabtree or Raji. If both of them are gone, I’d be trying to trade down like mad man (even if it means I don’t get full point value for my draft pick). If I can’t trade down, I’d rather have Sanchez than Maybin, Maclin/Harvin, and either of the OTs that should be there at #10 (Oher/A.Smith).
