So it looks like this Santa Clara Stadium might go through
Of course, I'd like for the San Francisco 49ers to stay in San Francisco, but Newsom has created such a bad situation for the team, that this seems like a certainty. I just hope they don't change the name........

I think...
… it’d most likely go the other way: The San Francisco 49ers of Santa Clara, which I’d be totally okay with as long as Santa Clara doesn’t some how make it onto the uniforms.
i guess
since I live in San Jose I’m not totally against this. And part of me wouldnt mind if my OAKLAND A’s became the San Jose A’s. for my convenience anyways
it all good.
I live in downtown SJ and I only have to take the bus there. At least I could saves gas money now. lol

I'm outraged
not really. I want the niners to stay in SF but really just because I think it’s right – I don’t go to any games (although I want to get to at least 1 this coming season) so the location really doesn’t mean much to me.

I dont know what to think about this proposal. After reading the article, the city expects the 49ers to pay for alot of out unecessary expenses which can easily reach substantial levels.
I am not a wiz on football stadium fianance or public economics, but i can tell when someone is overpaying. This seems like the case.
I think there is going to be too much legal action on behalf of the city of SF to really clog u p the flow of building a stadium in SC. San Francisco should really work out a deal to try and build a new stadium near ATT park. Its the only good location that sitll has space for another large venue.
I'm on the east coast
so my opinion doesn’t matter. As long as they stay the San Francisco 49ers, I don’t really care where they play. I’m not too sure how far SC is from SF, but from comments I have read, it seems that it isn’t terribly far. Santa Clara 49ers sounds a little odd, but I don’t think it will make me disown the team.

Santa Clara
Is probably a good 40 minutes south of the city (someone correct me if I’m wrong). It’s probably only 25 minutes away if you’re Antonio Bryant, though.
Yeah.
Not really bad at all. For most season ticket holders (which I’m imaging either live in the Danville/San Ramon/Pleasanton area or even down in Santa Clara), the trek down there wouldn’t be too bad. Heck, even at 40 minutes from the city isn’t bad once a week (if you actually go that often).
The only people that really lose out are the fans in the North Bay (i.e. Marin and Solano Counties and such).
and the city of SF
that is gonna lose a boatload of sales tax money and the like, right?

Quesiton.
Does the city of San Francisco get the bulk of the sales tax for tickets? For some reason, I’d imagine Santa Clara is already getting at least a sizable chunk of the season ticket sales taxes. I’d find it hard to believe that concessions and day of game ticket sales produces very much sales tax for the city.
God. Damnit.
Dude, that bums me out. I can’t help but think this is all just for the convenience of locating the stadium next to the practice facility and York home. Bum-mer.
Who cares?
Play wherever you want, the games are better on TV anyway. As a SF resident, the idea of paying for a stadium doesn’t excite me. They should definitely keep the name the “San Francisco 49ers” though. Too much history to give up that name. Hell, the Jet and Giants are “New York” and they play in New Jersey.
I'm hopeful
I believe they’ll retain the name "San Francisco 49ers." There are quite a few examples of NFL franchises having names of cities they don’t actually play in. Four that quickly come to mind. New York Giants/Jets (play in New Jersey), Dallas Cowboys (moving to Arlington) and Los Angeles Rams (played in Anaheim). The general area is referred to as the "San Francisco Bay" so I believe that will help in keeping the name.
Santa Clara is about 45 miles south of San Francisco so it will add to the commute of SF residents and those north of Oakland/San Francisco but will subtract commute times from those in the south bay. A lot of corporate money can be found in silicon valley and I believe the 49ers are banking on taping into this by having a stadium located in the heart of silicon valley.
Also for those who have never been to Candlestick it SUCKS getting in/out of the parking lots there. The Santa Clara site will be much easier to commute to/from on game days. I’ve got my fingers crossed and can’t wait to see shovels in the ground.
