Something's a FOOTE
Foote was released by the Pittsburg Steelers today, can Foote help out as OLB? He'd be a great pick up by the 49er D and can help teach the 3-4 to younger players. Any thoughts?

agreed
I think if we pick him up Lawson can be expendable…. I hate to say this but Manny has not been what we expected when rushing the QB. Foote can fill that hole, I say Marvel calls his Steeler buddy and get him in here ASAP.
Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.
Hmm.
It seems to me that if the 49ers signed Foote, he’d be replacing Spikes, and not Lawson. The guy isn’t a sack artist or anything, so I don’t see why he would move to the outside, especially at under 240 and 6’2".
as long as he can help
I don’t see how the 49ers can’t improve with having this guy on the roster. Not only can he help develop the LB group into a true 3-4 group but instill that winner mentality as well as toughness into all positions.

That's exactly what he'd be doing
not worth it

pass...
Pittsburgh’s pretty shrewd… if they’re cutting him, he may not be worth it. also i think takeo’s been pretty good at ted and he and willis have pretty good chemistry going on the inside… i feel like this would just be making a move to make a move.
Idolizing Robb Nen since 2002...

Foote
apparently wants to go home, to Detroit. His number one team he prefers to go to is Detroit. Detroit. The Lions. Remember them? I’m not sure how Foote is going to be eligible to join an NCAA team, but if he can do it, go for it. We’re an NFL team, he’s probably not interested.

me too...
Did I miss something? I thought we switched from the “hybrid” 3-4 to a straight up 3-4? Oh man, first I have to read about all the hatred for our draft less than a week after its conclusion, and now I don’t even know what defense we are running this year?? My head is spinning! LOL.
Someone please reassure me and tell me we are still in a 3-4, with ILBs Willis and Spikes, OLBs Harylson and Lawson, DT Franklin and Sopaoga, DEs J. Smith and Evans/Balmer, CBs Clemens and R. Smith (TBD), and Safeties Goldson and M. Lewis???? Did I miss anyone? Can anyone tell me what the deal is with our CB situation opposite Clemens?

Spin no more.
The team is running a 3-4. If I’m not mistaken, with Franklin starting at the nose again, it’ll be the same single-gap 3-4 they ran at the end of last season.
defense
Walt Harris is first in line to start opposite Clements. I’d imagine Tarell Brown will get a chance to take over the job eventually.
