Mike Vick(nothing on him signing with us)
this is not a fanpost about the possibility of mike vick signing with us, but moreso of what do you guys think of his future. He's soon to be(or already) released from prison into home confinement, and will be working construction for 10 bucks an hour, 40 hours per week. I think that he deserves to be back in the nfl, if not this year, but at least 2010 because he paid his debt to society. How can guys like Ray Lewis(who was involved in a murder) Donte Stallworth(who killed a man while driving drunk) not be treated like vick has been treated. In all due respect, im not saying what he did was right in any way, but they were dogs. Dogs aren't considered to be in the same class as humans. So called "animal lovers" after this incident still watch horse racing(do horces like racing?), and i bet that if there was a show on ESPN about dogs fighting, a bunch of people would watch that and root for their favorite dog. It just pisses me off that this guy has lost so much, and still some people don't want him back in the NFL. So what do you guys think Niners Nation,
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

Braylon Edwards Correction
I think you’re referring to Donte Stallworth as the person who killed somebody while driving drunk. Might want to correct that.

I think that he deserves to be back in the nfl
I agree that he should be reinstated since he’s paid his dues. But I disagree that he deserves to be back in the NFL. Dude’s gotta earn it. If his football skills have eroded while he’s been away, and he doesn’t even look good enough to be a team’s 3rd stringer, then he doesn’t deserve to be back. Mind you, I don’t think it will be that bad for him, I just think anyone in the NFL needs to earn their place in the league, not deserve it.
Does that make any sense?
I'm thinking but nothing's happening.

he deserves a shot
he’s done his debt – it was awful what he did but he did his time and if he can behave while on home confinement and in the months after he should be reinstated. He will obviously need to prove himself to a new team and that team will have to get his rights from Atlanta (if they don’t release him), but he should get the chance. Hard to say if it will happen in time for this season. My bet is that he plays a year in the CFL or Arena league (oh wait they canceled their season didn’t they) and then make it back. Or he could sign as a backup and try to work himself back in.

The "Animal Lover" in me says no,
and I can’t stand the fact that you say “but they were dogs”, but the fact that he served his punishment should allow him to attempt a return.
The cake is a lie.

I Concur......
Too many people in this country talk alot of garbage about how when someone messes up, they have to “pay their debt to society”. That’s fine by me. Wrong is wrong, right is right. So call it right to re-instate Vick soon after his release from home confinement. I will be the first to say I’m not the biggest animal lover on the planet. (That’s right folks…..They were JUST DOGS!!) However, with Mike, a whole gaggle of “fans” say that his losses aren’t enough and that he should suffer more. Think quickly about HIS losses: His career, his good standing, his freedom and his money. No one seems to wanna protest the owners of those horses from the races that don’t finish well. Here’s a hint: they all don’t go on to stud or become children’s rides.
The basic fact of the matter is: I wanna know where all the folks from PETA, the Humane Society, and other like minded groups have been for the past 7 years when it has come to our own fighting men and women in uniform? Have they activley picketed 1600 PN Ave. over the poor treatment of these warriors, who have returned to Walter Reed? Or how about the one’s who are still fighting a war started by a lie? Who everyday never know if it’s going to be their last that they get to speak to their friends and loved ones? But……..they rail vahemently for the rights and protections of dogs, cats, whales, seagulls, sealions, etc, etc. Yet their voices are so silent when it comes to their fellow man. Look….re-instate Mike, give him an HONEST opportunity to show his redemtion and let me get through with this before I hurl at the mass of skewed morality!

Soldiers volunteer for combat.
For a reasonable amount of time. Many are now forced to take 3rd and 4th tours or face punishment. I think the dog fighting thing is a little less cruel then destroying families, don’t you?

Again, careful with the politics. It’s a good way to turn things very sour around here very fast. We’re not there yet by a long shot, but this line of conversation could definitely run down that path without much provocation.

I agree with you completely.
Besides, do you have any idea how many other people in Atlanta are into dog fighting?

Vick SHOULD get a second chance.....
I don’t agree with what he did by any means, but the guy paid his dues, and he had to pay more than some people did for worse crimes. Leonard Little is still playing and is not in jail. Somebody please explain that one for me.

I have no problem with him being reinstated
However, he should be suspended. The league has a personal conduct policy under which a number of other players have been suspended for criminal convictions and/or arrests (Pacman Jones got a whole season and Chris Henry got 8 games). Vick should get a season suspension. While he certainly has paid his debt to society as a whole, the NFL has it own, independent, conduct policy and punishment system. That system should not be bypassed simply because Vick went to jail.

Oh, he will be.
If he gets reinstated in the fall, I can’t imagine Sheriff Roger actually letting him step foot on a field, at least for this year.

If reinstated in the fall
I can’t see any TEAM letting him step foot on the field let alone Goodell. That’s just too little time to step in, learn an offense, and be ready to produce. So even if the Commish decides against suspending Vick, it would probably be another year before he gets an opportunity anyways.

He's an awful human being
but with the other criminals in the NFL it would be hypocritical for Goodell not to reinstate him. He should get a half or full-season suspension and then I would hope the owners would collectively boycott signing him as I think that would send a good message. I’d be perfectly happy for Goodell to not reinstate him but I don’t see it happening

he should get another shot, but
i think he is suspended for another year.. i think Goodell makes an example out of him for lying to his face. just a hunch though

VICK IS THE MISSING PIECE TO OUR TEAMS PUZZLE
can you imagine the offence?
gore in the backfield…VD at right end…Bruce Crabtree and Morgan at recievers.. and VICK under center.. teams would have no chanceeeee!

offence?
chanceeee?
right end?

incorrect use of capitalization?
Not to mention the fact that your ideas aren’t backed up by anything.

Vick should absolutely be able to play,
He has served his time, so he should be able to play in the league. As for him and the 49ers being a match, i feel that if he can help us win a few more games a year, then hell yeah i can get on board with that. Anything for a couple W’s.

Absolutely.
Tony Dungy said the guys ready, and that’s all I need. I wish I could clone Mike Vick and put him on all my favorite sports teams. Then I’d clone him one more time to be my best friend and walk my dog.
