Where do our owner(s) rank?

My fellow Niners Nation,

Hello all. I'm suprised I'm still allowed to post after Fooch removed my last one. Hillarious! He and "SFgfan" run a tight dictatorship here I so watch yourself boys. And one last note: This is just my opinion. Not my lifes work. See my daughters for that. I wish I had time to write a thesis with stats from the last seven seasons but I don't. No spell check either so shut it. This is just an editorial. Nothing more, nothing less.

ANYWHO-I read a great article on Yahoo today by Chris Chase of 'Shutdown Corner' talking about Dan Synder and whether or not he's a bad of owner as recently published by SI.com. Please note where our beloved franchise places by the way: (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/nfl/05/08/nfl.owners/index.html). Fitting picture of Ol' Denise. What a bunt for use of a better word.

Now lets move to the actual Chris Chase article on good leadership versus terrible leadership. Please see: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Is-Daniel-Snyder-really-one-of-the-three-worst-o?urn=nfl,163009#comments. And yes, it compliments my constant rants on how pathetic Denise York is AND how sad it is that we as fans have accecepted this. And by 'accepted' I refer to most of you trying to tell me that we're up and coming without proving anything yet through the draft (other than my boy P-Willis) and "Nate Clements-esq" type FA signings. I'm constantly saying that we'll never return to championship form until proven bussiness people are running the front office. These folks need to be landing (not just going after), but actually landing, FA stars like Cutler, Housh, and Haynesworth to name a few.

In Chris's article he asks the question:

"Snyder wants to win and spends the money to prove it. Yeah, the signings of Bruce Smith, Deion Sanders, Adam Archuleta(notes), Brandon Lloyd(notes) and countless others have been colossal busts, but would you rather have an owner that's willing to spend $100 million for Albert Haynesworth(notes) rather than one who wouldn't even consider it"?

So I ask you all: Why haven't Jed or Scotty landed ANYTHING worth a penny off the FA wire? I understand capital is a concern; but why is it so hard to get a FA to play here? It's the greatest city on earth. We lack guile, creativity, and salesmenship in my humble opinion. Example: Julian Peterson went to the Lions for godsake? Really, we couldn't convience him otherwise? Look, you all know my take: After fininshing under .500 last season (again) I'm all for someone that makes things happen. There are two types of leaders in the world; Those that make things happen and those that are left wondering what happened. See George W. Bush for the latter.

So where are we guys? Would you all like to see a Dan Synder or Jerry Jones (for sake of argument) run this team? And if you scoff at Jerry Jones and D. Snyder-and feel they don't do whatever they can to put an all-pro talent level on the field season after season-han tell me why that's not healthy. Tell me how your more confident Scotty and Jed are going to lead us to the promise land.

Good luck and godspeed....

I have no confidence in Scot after the draft and the FA signings which still don’t make any sense.
Jed needs to fire McCloughan.

Lol

You’re already criticizing the draft and FA and yet none of the players have taken the field….

by SportsChicken on May 28, 2009 5:48 PM PDT up reply actions

You sure are informative aren't you.

The Good
Dre Bly
Moran Norris
The Bad
Brandon Jones (Don’t the 49ers have enough unproven WRs?)
Damon Huard (Will the team carry 4 QBs this year?)
Demetric Evans (Is he ahead of Ricky Jean and McDonald?)
Marques Harris (Is he ahead of Jay Moore and Ahmad Brooks?)
Marvel Smith (How did the last oft injured veteran RT workout for the 49ers?)

None of the players have taken the field but please make sense of this.

Supraman I usually have your back but..

..but Chikmagnet said correctly.. B. jones is gonna impress you #1 M. Smith will too.. the guy is an all pro, and I think he has at least onemore great year!

by Josh G and the Shaun Hill band wagon on May 28, 2009 9:41 PM PDT up reply actions

Maybe it’s me but I think 2 back surgeries is substantial to a OL that uses his back all the time to get leverage. The surgeries both were to remove fragments, so literally Smith is wearing down.

Brandon Jones vs Bruce, Morgan, Hill, Crabtree
The question is how much time he’d get on the field

by supraman on May 28, 2009 10:04 PM PDT up reply actions

From what I understand..

..Jones is the fastest next to Hill, has the best hands next to Bruce and Morgan, plus he has already shown he is one of the best run blocking wide outs (why we signed him) to top it off..

And Marvel Smith is at home. I know larry Allen wasn’t his best when he cme here, but he was solid the time he spent here, and I believe Smith will be very much in the like.

Smith

Smith has had injury issues, but they also signed him to only a 2-year deal. Doesn’t compare with Jonas Jennings.

As for Evans, he was also a cheap deal so I don’t think you can qualify it as bad at this point.

by David Fucillo on May 28, 2009 9:45 PM PDT up reply actions

It would of been better to NOT get an aging RT with a history of injury.
possibly signing a guy like Stacy Andrews even though he’s twice the money as Smith the niners have the cap space.

Evans and the rest of the players seem like they’re guys to fill roster spots. I wouldn’t mind not seeing any of them this season(which isn’t a bad thing, I understand that you have to have a 53 man roster), but Brandon Jones signed a fairly large contract..yet I foresee him struggling to get playing time.

Smith

What about Justin Smith last year? You can’t build your whole team through the free agency. That is what the Redskins have been doing and it hasn’t worked. We beat them and they had the # 4th ranked D. You need chemistry as well as talent. You need the team to play as a unit not individual players. Big FA signings help, but you can’t go all the way with a FA team. A team like the Vikings is pretty much one step away from a super bowl run. We are mare than one step away. Nobody likes waiting for draft picks to develop but we have a young team with an upside

Jed York

is now the ownership icon and he’ll operate with Uncle Eddie whispering in his ear. Look for good things to come. This year’s team is playoff bound.

I can see why your posts were deleted

Apart from making no sense at all, you are quick to criticize Jed York’s actions even though you haven’t even seen their effects.

Did you really want Alber Haynesworth?
A guy that only played up to his abilities for one season because he wanted money….

Julian Peterson was TRADED, how were we going to convince him?

I guess you just don’t understand how the business side of football works, with the salary cap in place, it is no longer possible to “buy” championships.

Look at the most successful teams this decade:
1. Patriots
-How many times did they splurge in FA?
-They made key signings and trades but never for too much $$$

2. Steelers
-Their talent almost always seems to come from the draft.

Do you really want Snyder running things?

Note:
Capital does not mean the same thing as money. (it is a store of value but it is not used in transactions…..machinery = capital, cash = money)

by SportsChicken on May 28, 2009 5:56 PM PDT reply actions

Thanks for the business lesson Chikmagnet...

I bet you just took a bong hit in your dorm room didn’t you my little tool shed. So being that your an illiterate bussiness man; can you try again and answer the question I posed?

Why not Dan Snyder? And further, why wouldn’t you like to see us (again, I’ll say it really slowly) play and win in the FA market ?

Onto Jed, he is new. I get it. The only thing I have to judge him by is this off season. Let me think…yup…he’s done NOTHING. We just let Houshmazadeh go to the friggin Seahawks! We have a QB contest between Shaun Hill and Alex Smith. That’s embarrassing, seriously. I’m laughing as I write this. We found no proven back-up to Frank Gore (Domink Rhodes would have been nice) and we decided Tony Gonzolez wouldn’t be a good mentor to Vernon Davis. Micheal Crabtree was a gift from the Raiders. Absolutely nothing to do with Jed York. So far my grade is: C-.

One further note on your Pat’s comment: Uhhh, yea, they played the FA market dude. Lets start with Randy Moss, Adelius Thomas, LaMont Jordan, Ty Law, Donte Stallworth, and Joey Galloway. I wonder if those fellows would have made the Niners better. Huh????

So yes, some moves worked for the Pats some didn’t. Point is, they palyed the FA market and won. And they continue to make smart business decicions year after year.

by Forttyner4life on May 28, 2009 7:31 PM PDT up reply actions

corrections

Randy Moss was acquired via trade from the Raiders NOT free agency. Ty Law was the Patriots first round draft pick in 1995. Two pretty big corrections.

As far as the Julian Peterson error, you might want to go in and take that out of your FanPost since he was not picked up by Detroit as a free agent.

by David Fucillo on May 28, 2009 7:40 PM PDT up reply actions

My bad Fooch...

Still my point from the very beginning: Front office of the Pat’s MADE THINGS HAPPEN. Hell the Detroit Lions out did us by aquiring JP.

My appologies for not distinguishing between FA and Trades. I’ll make it a hybrid verb and we’ll call it “FATS”. Transcations (both Trades and FA signings or FAT) by which proven talent is acquired.

Ty Law: Total brick. Doing to many things at once. I meant Junior Seau. I do not possess you statistical genius as I have a day job, wife, beautiful daughters, etc. Everything you lack from the 2nd floor apartment you rent. Haha!

Also: you didn’t even ansewer my question there “Head Ball Coach”. Would you like to see a guy like Dan Snyder or J. Jones step into this organization?

by Forttyner4life on May 28, 2009 7:54 PM PDT up reply actions

No

I actually think Jed York has the franchise going in the right direction. That aside, the 49ers have made splashes in free agency the last few years, while also attempting to build through the draft. It’s taken time, but I think there are positive signs. You look at the free agency moves of this team and I think it’s actually quite solid for the most part. Maybe they’re not getting guys you think are worth getting, but they’re making an impact. Here’s some of the guys we’ve grabbed. While not all have worked, the busts were not exactly bad acquisitions at the time (see Darrell Jackson).

Justin Smith, Nate Clements, Isaac Bruce, Takeo Spikes, Walt Harris (Pro Bowler his first year for those that forgot), Moran Norris (the return), Allen Rossum, Michael Lewis, Darrell Jackson.

People may laugh at D-Jack now, but at the time people were quite pleased with that trade.

jones/snyder

I don’t need that kind of ego running this franchise. Yea they’re willing to spend big bucks, but since the York era kicked in, they’ve all won the same amount of Super Bowls.

You knew how to spell illliterate, but blew it with “BUSINESS”. Good luck next time. As to your football knowledge, We don’t need Housyourmama, and we are deep at the RB position. Picking up Marvel Smith was great as he’s in excellent shape and healthy, and Alex Boone is a real sleeper.

Think positive and chill.

by 49erLou on May 28, 2009 8:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Why not Dan Snyder?

I can think of this: Since 1999, the year Snyder bought the team, the Redskins have been a .500 team three times, below .500 four times, and over .500 three times. This is not to mention that the Redskins haven’t won more than 10 games in any of those seasons. This is all while the guy is spending an arm and a leg EVERY year on free agents and players brought in via trade. Money can’t buy you good players anymore. Teams don’t generally let good players go before they’ve come close to (or surpassed) the end of their usefulness.

This is the same guy that, not gave the 49ers a fourth rounder (I believe) for a sorry WR, but gave that same WR a sizable contract.

As for the Pats, I don’t need to point out again that Randy Moss was acquired via a trade when no one else in the league wanted his services and that Ty Law was one of the Patriots best draft picks of the 90s. In addition to that, Donte Stallworth is a ridiculous example of a player the Patriots “won.” They gave him an incentive-laden 6-year deal and he took it because no one else really wanted his services either. The end of the story had him being let go by the Pats after ONE season. Releasing a player who just signed a 6-year deal after one season is FAR from a win. To go even further, Galloway was released by the Bucs (a team he was fairly productive for for most of his time there) because he caught only 13 passes last season and is 37 years old. For a WR who’s spent a lot of his career depending on speed, but has had a lot of injuries, the end could be near for him. I wouldn’t necessarily call that a win, either.
