Jerry Rice dropped passes.....
Anyone know how many dropped passes Jerry Rice had for his career? I know he set a record with 15 his rookie year. Just having a debate with some friends over who leads the NFL in dropped passes. Of course most of them are saying it was Rice. I'm sure before its all said and done...T.O. will have the record at the pace he's going. Any links or info will help..!
Thanx!

FanShot
This FanPost probably should have been a FanShot.
In any case, good luck. I don’t think dropped passes are an officially tracked stat, as the ruling on them is pretty subjective. If it is, it would probably be primarily available through STATS, Inc. and is probably a more recently tracked stat. It’ll probably be difficult to track them all the way back into the 80s. Of course, STATS’s data isn’t free.
Florida Danny
would know best if anyone around here.
Braylon Edwards had about 15 million drops last season, if you ask Browns fans.

this whole fanshot
is retarted its just like saying how many field goals did michael jordan miss. who cares jerry rice and michael jordan were the best at their sport and this question is deedee deeeee!
Wow.
Way to ride your high horse there. I just have a serious pet peeve for the usage of “retarded”, or in your case, “retarted” when you think something is stupid. The “deedee deeeee” thing just makes it even worse.
You may think the question was a stupid question, but there are other ways to express that. Or how about this: lets not make a comment at all?
this is
my opinion on the case if u dont like it sorry but im not here to please everybody. again this is my opinion on the matter and maybe i should have used better wording but i dont feel the need to use selective wording just to please everybody’s “pet peeves”

opinions
Opinions are always welcome. Some folks really have a problem with the use of the word retarded. Whether you agree or disagree, it’s just likely to evoke a strong response from some folks. That’s all.

I pretty much have a lot to say about it, but yeah, basically what you said.

Apparently
You aren’t reading what I’m writing. If you did read it, I’m not against your opinion. I just didn’t like the way it was presented, as I think calling things and/or people “retarded” is just flat out poor taste. Yes, you are entitled to your own opinions, and I’m sure you have a lot of very good ones. It’s just that when they’re expressed with words that can offend people, the comment then loses much of it’s, for lack of a better word, respectability.
But judging from your response, I guess you don’t really care if people take your comments seriously, and I guess that’s your prerogative.
you might not
but other people will and thats just fine with me. not everybody will like your comments. like fooch said on the comment above opinions are welcome but some people might not like it depending on which words you use.

New fan post on the political acceptance of the word "retarded"?
Anyone…?
by Sultan of Seitan on May 7, 2009 3:57 PM PDT up reply actions
Political correctness is a GOOD thing. It’s how people use it that sucks. There’s nothing wrong with being respectful. Just as long as you’re doing it because you understand you’re being respectful, and not because you’re afraid of being disrespectful.
Think about words. Understand them. And then say or don’t say them accordingly.

Hold your tongue and say.....I AM WE TALL DID
I’m not saying it’s ok, but you (SFGFAN) can’t be going around on public blogs trying to be the vocab police. If you start your own blog you can control it how you want, but if someone wants to use ‘retarded’ as a term in their blog its on them. I really don’t think he should have to find another word substitute to make you or anyone else feel better. What if that was the perfect word to express his thoughts? Thats just my opinion. People say a lot of things that make my blood boil but if you take that away, what are you left with…….a controlled, boring and assimilative rhetoric.
Look.
You’re right. You can say whatever you want. You can choose to sound like a kid in the middle of junior high or high school who love to compare things he hates to people who actually have disabilities. As I said, that’s your prerogative. I’m not trying to be a vocabulary police. I’m not trying to make anyone sound like me or talk like me. I’m just asking for a little respect for a group of people you choose to demean. I may not be the moderator, editor, or owner of the blog, but that shouldn’t stop me from wanting to keep it the respectable place for discussion amongst fans it has always been.
I’m not asking you to bite your tongue or anything. I’m not even telling you to squash your thoughts. There are plenty of words you can use in place of “retarded.” I just think it’s demeaning to people who actually have disabilities to use related words and even go as far as imitating them. But I guess you don’t care about them, just like you don’t care about anything anyone else thinks.
That’s your prerogative, and that’s the last I’ll say about it here.
retarted nowadays
is used so frequently it doesnt even mean the same anymore its just like gay. when u say something is gay your kinda saying you dont like it, your not actually saying that it is a man and prefers the same sex. so when i say something is retarted im saying that the post is wack, it sucks, who cares, therefore retarted. im sorry your so touchy on the subject but thats the way it is and i on the other hand dont care what people use as words because its not how its worded, its what meaning it conveys, people got what i was trying to say, i think the post is “wack”

retarted?
so, the term originates from baking a tart, but not to a satisfactory level, so you have to retart it to make it better and hence, retarted?
or does retart mean to refill the filling of a tart that has been detarted?

no swearing in non game-day/draft threads
I deleted your subsequent comment because of the swear word.

caveat
Yea….My reasoning is that game day and draft threads involve real time comments. In other threads you can take a moment to react. During a game you want your comment going up immediately.

I met Jerry
It was the best day of my life. I got to meet my childhood hero.
In Shaun Hill will trust
You lie...
Jerry rice never dropped a pass, fumbled or had a penalty called on him, ever. Or at least that how I remember it.
I don’t think “dropped passes” is an official stat category.
Jerry Rice
Doesn’t drop balls, balls jump out of his hands in fear.

Jerry Rice
never had penalties called on him. Referees just dropped their flags to the ground in slack-jawed awe.
In Singletary we trust.
I don't think dropped passes were an official stat during most of his career.
It’s like tracking Deacon Jones’ sacks – you can do it with enough film and research, but the NFL will never acknowledge it.
Dropped passes
In his rookie season, Jerry dropped a bunch of passes early and the fans even got on him a bit. Once he broke out in a Monday night game vs. the Rams, dropped passes became a thing of the past and TDs came in bunches.
As to tracking Deacon Jones’ sacks, why would you want to when an old-time 49er should really have the sack record. Only problem is that they didn’t start recording them yet. In 1952, the Niners started a 19-year old at defensive end against HOF QB Bobby Layne and the Detroit LIons. His name was Charlie Powell and he still remains the youngest NFL player ever to start a game. He sacked Layne 10 times for a minus 67 yards in his first game in the NFL at age 19. Layne was so rattled that he didn’t complete a pass until the 4th quarter. Charlie was the first Niner rookie to ever be awarded a game ball. Just a bit of trivia . . .
