matt jones Vs dominique zeigler who would you prefer
how about Matt Jones instead of Zeigler? more then a fair trade right? cut Zeigler sign jones. I'll also add matt jones 6'6. ziggy 6'3. whos the better redzone threat? why don't we look into a player like matt jones. I think outside of his off field issues he can be a very productive player. He also said hes ready to turn his life around, but how many players say that around the media and shows no improvements? in recent sitings I've actually heard good things about ziggy , but Ive also seen jones in action and he can be quite freightening

That's...
why the NBA has a lottery system. Every pro sports should have a similar rule.

The NBA is shady
When’s the last time a team starting throwing games to improve draft position. Throwing games for draft position is a non issue and the lottery system itself is pretty shady and far from ideal. Hell most NFL teams don’t even want to draft that high due to the salary commitments.
Don't sweat it. I'm illiterate.

Let's see...
The Houston Rockets after getting Ralph Sampson and Rodney McCray , got Olajuwon the following year. Although you are right about the lottery being shady, a clear example of that is the Knicks getting Ewing in the first year of the lottery system, there are no more guarantees that the worst team gets the 1st overall pick.

Isn't that the point
Doesn’t the worst team “derserve” the 1st overall pick?

They...
don’t “deserve” it if they’ll throw games.

That's the thing.
Proving that teams throw games is almost impossible. Due to the ridiculous amounts of payroll an NFL team has, it’s be ridiculous to assume that they’re willing to chase away fans (i.e. losing purposely) just to get a better draft pick.
by sfgfan on Jun 4, 2009 10:08 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Again, I ask...
When’s the last time a team was even suspected of throwing games to improve draft position? I mean if you’re offering up this conspiracy theory do you have any inkling of support or suspicion? Also, it’s rare to find a team that wants to commit that kind of money to high drafts anyways. How many times have you heard about teams wanting to trade down as opposed to hearing about teams wanting to trade up? The former seriously out numbers the latter.
Don't sweat it. I'm illiterate.

NFL: Texans vs 49ers in what at the time was called the “Bush Bowl” Kris Brown VERY wide right
NBA:2006 Paul Pierce missed 35 games because of a stress reaction in his foot. (Trades 2ndpick for Ray Allen)
2007:Dwayne Wade missed the final 21 games with knee pains. (Michael Beasley), Riley that same season missed a couple of games to scout college players.

It's not like...
the Clippers are going to hold a press conference to say, “look, we’re going to drop games to have a better chance in the draft.” Of course there won’t be any proof or support, but many suspicions.
Sure, many teams want to trade down and follow the Bill Walsh method. But, what many teams do not realize is, the 49ers back then were always the favorite to win the SB because they had some very talented players and excellent coaches. This year, the Jets traded up because they think that Sanchez is the 2nd coming of Broadway Joe.
So, in theory, if a Lebron James is available in the NBA draft and the next best available players in the draft are the following: Derrick Rose, Greg Oden, Andrea Bargnani, Andrew Bogut, Dwight Howard, Yao Ming, Kwame Brown, and Kenyon Martin (these are the players drafted 1st overall in the NBA since 2000), would you trade down for a chance to draft Kwame Brown? ……………….I did’nt think so.
All I’m saying is, there has to be a way to make sure that no teams can come up with a lame injury excuse for their star player to sit down the rest of the season for a chance to draft a Troy Aikman, Bo Jackson, or a Peyton Manning.

You're assuming Zeigler makes the team.
Their’s no guarantee that he will, although I’ld like it if he did. Personally, I like the WR’s we have. Their’s a reason the Jags let Jones go without even trading him. Their’s also a reason why he’s still available in June, which does surprise me a little. I thought he would have been picked up by now.

good players bad rep
yea true, but you also have players like Michael vick, and plaxico burress. Good player but bad rep. Brandon marshall may even scare off a few folks if he was to just so happen to get cut from the team. I feel like Marvin harrison can still play at a high level like bruce, maybe even better, but no one will give him the chance to prove it. I think ziggy is descent but he’s so little. ok, Imagine pass from hill to ziggy. you have Ryan Clark waiting for him to catch it…… O my! that could get ugly. I like our receivers as well but I’d much rather jones take that shot.

How is it stupid?
Is the idea of signing Matt Jones stupid? Not really, the guy actually looked like an NFL reciever last year. I’d imagine he’d be rather cheap and offers more upside than Batter or Zieglar possibly Hill too but is he going to take the team to the next level probably not. But if Matt Jones can keep his head on straight and build off of last season he could be a very productive NFL WR and I have no qualms with someone wanting to discuss a potential very productive WR that could be had for cheap.

Ok
And he could have put forth his discussion in a much more intelligent and intelligible manner. The post itself was rife with ignorance and a poor grasp on the English language. If it had been a solid post on the merits of Matt Jones and the benefits of signing him in lieu of retaining Battle or Zeigler, it might have been acceptable.

It sucks because
The headline has nothing to do with the post. He spends 30 characters of his post talking about taking up characters. If it was a simple, straightforward post about, “What you think about Matt Jones” it would be fine.

You deflected my point.
No one said the idea of signing Matt Jones is stupid (though that argument could be made, as well).
I said the post was stupid. The content of this fanpost has absolutely nothing to do with its title and headline. The question brought up by the post is purely hypothetical, and about as likely to happen as the aquisition of Terrell Owens. This, in itself, wouldn’t be such an issue if it weren’t true that this situation that has no basis or feasibility was accompanied with no attempt to add any insight or information. Instead, the poster chose to use filler text that includes a repeat of the question and basic player profile information along with a note that such things were necessary to make it to the minimum 75 word count.
Look, I’m not trying to make it personal to this one guy. If I were to write a post titled “Reasons to believe that Joe Nedney will not be as effective in 2009” and proceed to write a body that consisted of little more than the proposition that we sign Pacman Jones…I would sure hope that someone with the power to do so would delete my post for being “stupid”.
My pessimism goes to the point of suspecting the sincerity of the pessimists.

Fan Posts == Informative Poster?
Please. Just because someone can come up with 75 words to put into a fan post, it does not mean he/she can be an insightful person. There are plenty examples of this in past Fan Posts.
As people have mentioned around here before, some of the most informative and/or insightful posts come in the form of comments. Writing off people who comment just because they “bash” the original post or don’t write their own Fan Posts is utterly ridiculous.

Ziegler has been a solid citizen and is the kind of role player the team needs. Jones has given no indication that he can keep his nose clean (pun intended), and isn’t the sure thing he ought to be for the team to give up on a kid like Ziegler. And, moreover, I’ll be mighty upset if the Niners replaced this:

RE: isn’t the sure thing he ought to be for the team to give up on a kid like Ziegler.
Zeigler is 24, Matt Jones is 26. Matt Jones, for only being 2 years older has shown infinitly more at the NFL level than Zeiglar. I’d sacrifice the “kid” in Zeigler for the “production” of Matt Jones any day.

I’m not going to say I’m definitely for Matt Jones, but your point makes sense. It may be because I’m one of those people who think Zeigler isn’t much more than a replacement-level WR at this point (if he is even that). If the 49ers take a flier on Jones, and he fails, the 49ers can find another toothpick with lanky arms and decent hands to become their new Zeigler.

My points in posting here were . .
1) The original post is soooooo stupid of a topic! What SF fan would suggest thier team “lay off” to get a draft pick. How well did the first pick work with Smith? At that point, in my opinion, anything under this thread is fair game.
2) You can’t seriously want your thread to just be SF fans jumping on the bandwagon do you? Where’s the fun in that? Its all about developing a division rivalry baby.
3) I was actually a SF fan before I moved to AZ in 93. I have had Cards season tickets since fall of 94 sitting in Sun Devil stadium in 100 degree plus heat for many years. Cards fans have been the Rodney Dangerfileds of the NFL for years so when we finally get something to crow about, we’ve earned the right to do so. Especially when the thread is sooooo stupid of a topic.
In answering other replies to my post, I think its more likely that the Cards go on an all out tear this year then they fall back to 6-10, but you just never know. That’s what so great about football.

I agree the topic was dumb, but in no way or form was I suggesting our team threw the season. I was reading how overly histrionic the columnist, and nfl writers are. They don’t see the light in the qb’s we have. The real topic had to do with matt jones and ziggy which everyone discussed so I figured they got the hint. Notice as I rambled on nowhere did I mention throwing the season. the headline/topic was basically an attention getter.

here in AZ are going crazy over the AZ Cardinals. Before last season, you would never see a small sticker of the Cardinals. Now, they have AZ Cardinals stickers covering the entire rear glass. Hah! Cards paraphernalia next year??
Cardinal’s paraphernalia has definitely become more popular, but I think that is typical for any fan base of any team that makes the SB. You also have to remember we finally got a stadium that you can sit comfortably in year around 3 years ago. I think that made a bigger difference than the SB even. Cards had not sold out in ASU’s stadium except Dallas games in many years before the stadium. Every game all three years has been sold out since the stadium opened. Hopefully, you guys will soon see the advantages of a state of the art stadium somewhere in the SF area. It really makes a big difference.
Also the Suns, Dbacks and Coyotes have all had pretty massive slides in performance lately. Cards are benefiting from filling the sport’s void the other three have created.
I actually think Phoenix has always been full of closet cardinal fans who rooted for the home team, but were to disappointed to show it. I think the cards fans are now here to stay, but we’ll have to wait and see.

I agree that at Sun Devil Stadium
Cards fans in the stands were often outnumbered by Cowboy fans. Unless you’ve been there you can’t imagine what sitting in the Sun on a 105 degree day used to be like. Dallas has played twice in the new cardinals stadium 90% of the fans were in cardinal red. Cards are 6-2 at home all three seasons in the new stadium.
