2009 UFL Draft: Your UFL San Francisco squad

ProfessorBigelow posted yesterday about Tim Rattay tweeting that he would be playing in the newly formed UFL.  The UFL held their draft last night and we now have some preliminary rosters for the four teams.  I don't see Rattay on the list, so I'm guessing he'll be one of the guys coming into whatever training camp they have to fill out the roster.  In the meantime, I thought you'd like to see the rosters, most notably the San Francisco team.

San Francisco Roster

FB   ARMSTRONG, ODIE (NW OKLAHOMA ST)
RB   AYANBADEJO, FEMI (SAN DIEGO STATE)
QB   BOYD, SHANE (KENTUCKY)

DB   UNERTL, JEREMY (WISCONSIN-LA CROSSE)
RB   WASHINGTON, JOHN DAVID (MOREHOUSE)
WR   WEST, JOE (TEXAS EL-PASO)

I recognize a few names on there, but not many.  Speaking of the team, they don't have a name yet.  Any thoughts on a potential name for the San Francisco squad?  Also, the team will be playing at AT&T Park and will be coached by former NFL head coach and 49er assistant coach Dennis Green.

After the jump we have the rest of the rosters with a few notable names mixed in.

Boo

I’m a Las Vegas fan!

Brandon Moore & Ezra Butler

David Kircus and some dude named Awasom (awesome name) as well?

Booya!

Isn’t Losman the QB for the Vegas squad? I don’t think you’ve got a QB listed for them currently.

So who’s Thomas Clayton going to sign with?

Don't sweat it. I'm illiterate.

hahaha

I was about to say the Vegas squad has the most players I have heard of. I would root for them just because of Adrian Awasom

and in his 4th season, VD broke through the wall, Niners fan rejoiced and all was well in the kingdom. Singletary 3:42

Awasom (awesome name)

Wow, indeed it is.

name

We finally have a legitimate successor to He Hate Me?

by Fooch on Jun 19, 2009 10:55 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I thought...

… “He Hate Me” (or nicknames in general) was ridiculous to have on the back of jerseys. Now, changing your name to “Ochocinco” before putting it on your jersey is a whole other thing.

by sfgfan on Jun 19, 2009 11:31 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Names

I love the fact that Orlando has a “Fred Bledsoe” playing for them. He’s a nose tackle, but if he’d been a QB it would have been like one of those old video games that used semi-made up names.

by Fooch on Jun 19, 2009 9:54 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I'm a bit suprised by the coaches some pretty big names

SF – Dennis Green
LV – Jim Fassel
NO – Jim Haslett
NY – Ted Cottrell

I think it might be a reason the UFL could have some staying power but the season definitely needs to be moved to the NFL offseason.

Don't sweat it. I'm illiterate.

by methodrampage on Jun 19, 2009 10:07 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

late season "call-ups"

One possible plus to the league is that you get guys mid to late season in some kind of game shape. It could be better than just signing some dude off the street when you have an injury. The guy who’s sat out most of the season is probably in shape, but not quite game shape. The UFL guys aren’t playing top competition, but they’re at least in competitive shape probably. There could be some value in that for the NFL.

by Fooch on Jun 19, 2009 10:11 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

I would follow it if it were the offseason. During the season i only have room for one team and that’s my Niners.

SF Dragons

Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.

Adam Archuleta?

Ouch, he had a huge contract with the Redskins and has been terrible since. He isn’t that old or injury-prone so he must have lost a lot of skills (maybe he never had them) to not even be a second/third string safety in the NFL.

The best name I like is Wale Dada and Awasom of that too.

UFL SF team

Hey Denny Green goes way back in SF. He could add some credibiltiy to this league. Would be cool to see Rattay play for him in SF. Here are some team names

SF Breakers
SF Blitz
SF Cutters

4. The New York Subs (subways & sandwiches)

by MontanaPass on Jun 19, 2009 10:56 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

by LovinBlue on Jun 19, 2009 11:01 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

jajajaja....

the SF Treats… it fits in so many different ways…. the rice and the fruits

Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.

I think the SF RB ......

Washington is Denzel’s son. At least I’ve read that somewhere.

Well, we're waiting....

by drummer on Jun 19, 2009 11:49 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Yep!

It absolutely is! He broke all KINDS of rushing records there. Serious threat in the SWAC conference. It’s a small school of nothings, I know, but so was Missippi Valley State. That’s where the Niners drafted a little known WR back in the mid eighties…

And Washington also used to play for the Rams. I’m glad to see him in the Bay Area! Idunno what the name of the team should be, though.

this

is like the foot ball equivalent of Major League. Chris Perry as Willie Mays Hays. Maybe they sign Vick and he’ll be the Ricky Vaughn

I dont see why not ....

Sign Vick so we can see what he has after all that time off the field

Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.

I think I’m gonna have a hard time rooting for a WR named Fitzgerald….ESPECIALLY if they are related as jtoj said.

Hauled in Leaping Larry's brother and Denzel Washington's son.

SF Name Ideas:

SF Streets (streets of San Francisco? Anyone remember that show?)
San Francisco Gaters (Golden Gate?)
San Francisco Grizzlies (California Bears/Adjacent to Berkeley?)
San Francisco Pride (Gay Pride Movement)
San Francisco Gold Rush
San Francisco Mission
San Francisco Candlesticks
San Francisco Avenues
San Francisco MuthaFoggers
San Francisco Aftershock
San Francisco Shockers
San Francisco Rockers (At games, the announcer would say “WELCOME TO THE ROCK!”)

by BlackSoultan on Jun 21, 2009 5:52 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

dude

gay pride? really? I mean….REALLY? That opens the door for all kinds of inapprioprate suggestions. The SF Loose ends. The SF Leakage…..The SFpirates (wink wink). Gay pride as the source of a FB team name? How about the SF we are football players and probably not gays? Or….gay names….the SF Bay Bees. get it? mascot can be a bee. see? Ah well. And Welcome to the rock? That’s my town son!! How about the Trollies. Or the SF not quite nfl materials? Ok ok…I’ll stop being so negative..

"If you move, I'll knock the hell out of you. I'm going to throw the ball as hard as I can, right at you. The only way you won't get hit is if you catch it. Understand?" my dad, teaching me to catch a baseball.
