Caption This: Voting on your favorite VD.... caption...
Alright folks, here it is... The moment probably only some of you were waiting for. We've got this photo of Vernon Davis to my left, but the AP are awful at writing captions... So boring, so unimaginative... But here at Niners Nation, we's gots some brains. When we originally posted this picture, we got some imaginative posts trying to describe this image. Some good, some not so good...
But never you fear Nation! Lucky for you this Nation is a democracy. It's time to vote on the best of the best. Nation: Caption This!

If the Milli Vanilli caption doesn't win...
I’ll be disappointed in you all.
I originally wanted the first, but the last blew it out of the water.
The cake is a lie.

I'll go with #2
Something about his inability to catch a football is important.
49ers and TOOL live, my personal Heaven!!!
Vernon Davis can catch...
…if we would only throw to him.
In 2007 (I dont have these numbers for 2008) Vernon Davis caught 61.2% of the passes that were intended for him. That’s better than Chris Cooley (60.0%) and Dallas Clark (57.4%) and not far behind Antonio Gates (64.1%) or the king of tight end pass-catchers himself, Tony Gonzalez (64.3%).
Yet somehow, he was only thrown to 85 times that year, while everyone else I mentioned was thrown to over 100 times.
By the way, Delanie Walker caught exactly 50% of the passes thrown to him that year, and we certainly don’t keep him on the team to block.
I take full responsibility for my irresponsibility.
and just to compare him to some actual wide receivers...
the following all did worse:
Brandon Marshall – 60.0%
Larry Fitzgerald – 60.5%
Chad Ocho Cinco – 58.1%
Braylon Edwards – 52.3 %
Steve Smith – 58.8%
Terrell Owens – 57.4%
Plaxico Burress – 50.0%
Roddy White – 60.6%
Chris Chambers – 51.2%
Santana Moss – 53.0%
Lee Evans – 48.7%
Isaac Bruce – 54.5%
Calvin Johnson – 50.5%
and even Randy Moss with his 23 TDs was less than half a percent higher at 61.6%.
I take full responsibility for my irresponsibility.
Aren't most of guys
Deep route receivers? If they are, then there is of a tendency for more drop passes. With better defenders and double coverage, it’s tougher . And then, we have to remember how well the ball has been thrown. I’m not saying you wrong but I think over the course of the season, most top flight Wide recievers will get the ball thrown to them more often than a tight end. There are some exceptions, of course.

right
is there a stat that records number of catches compared to the number of passes that a guy gets his hands on? Because a pass could be intended for a guy and get picked off or sail way over his head or be behind him or whatever
Still defending Rich Aurilia, and the Niners' classic unis
"we have to remember how well the ball has been thrown"
just to clarify, a bad quarterbacking situation would drive this percentage down, because an uncatchable pass would still be credited as intended for him. so that would suggest that VD is actaully better than 61.2%, unless you really want to try and make a case for SF having a good QB situation in ’07.
and yes, most top flight wide receivers will get thrown to more, but since this stat is a percentage i dont see why that matters.
I take full responsibility for my irresponsibility.
He Doesn't Get Open
Great pass catching tight ends have a knack for finding holes in the defense and exploiting them.
This stat doesn’t mean a whole lot to me, though it does show that he can catch the ball when it’s thrown his way. I wonder where he would stand on a stat that showed what % of the time the ball came his way on a pass when he was on the field?
Vernon Davis has not shown that he grasps the art of getting open, though he has turned into a pretty good blocker.
I have a feeling ol’ Bear might fit into Singletary’s scheme a little better but we shall see.
Tinman
Another option
.".. Uh ok coach i AM GOING TO THE LOCKER ROOM JUST DON’T YELL AT ME ANY MORE..I hate it when you yell… "
Or to borrow a line from an old song. “….Can’t touch this…”
If I had had the inclination to make a caption for this one, it would have been:
“San Francisco 49ers Tight End Vernon Davis waits patiently while Joe Nedney finishes up in the Porta Potty.”
But it still wouldn’t have been anywhere near as good as the Milli Vinilli one.
My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.
