Greg Ellis --- Pass Rusher
This from Foxsports.com:

What is your opinion on Greg Ellis, now that he is not a Cowboy? I mean, the 49ers do need a proven pass rusher just in case Manny Lawson remains to fizzle. With 77 career sacks, that would make him the most experience pass rusher, in terms of numbers, in the market. He would certainly be a welcome addition to the defense, creating mayhem on the field (hopefully, on the field only).
He could also play either DE or OLB.

Given that there hasn’t been even a minor mention of the 49ers being interesting in Ellis, it’s probably best to keep it in that FanShot.

Sorry, Fooch.
I wasn’t paying attention to the FanShots. You could delete this if you wish.

greg ellis
Oh please!
Scott Mc.
Sign Greg Ellis up to a comfortable one year contract now. Ahmed Brooks is already giving Sing crap. Ellis is good for 8 to 10 sacks this year. The 49ers can afford it. PLEASE!

Yeah screw Brooks!
Sign Ellis to a 2 year contract, a comfortable one, that way he will produce, especially if we manage to play the cowboys in a wildcard..I know I’m a homer..lol

amhad brooks
was nolans grab so i wouldnt find him on the 53 man roster i wouldnt want to take a risk on him either batlling injuries and less playing time on the bengals. so signing ellis isnt a risk its a full 16 games (or 17) games of slap happy sacking
vote nate davis as holder of the 49ers future
message has been approved by the davis party and nate davis himself
Dallas vs 49ers.
Manusky was supposed to be Phillips’ successor as DC in San Diego (if I’m not mistaken), but Nolan jumped on that opportunity first. I wouldn’t doubt that the two defensive schemes are very similar. I don’t know a whole lot about their players, but it seems possible that they play a 1-gapping 3-4 like the 49ers do.
Do it!
One year or Two year deal should get it done, and we have money
sign him
to a 2 yrs deal. It wont hurt at all.

Is why he was released from Dallas.
Do you really want to pay this guy a lot of guaranteed $?
Lets see what he’s asking for before we go all crazy about him.

Pay him!
We have more than enough cap space
Fans stuck in the 80's are lame. Respect the past, live in the now.
It's not just about Cap Space.
We’re not going to over pay a player just because we have the money.
Players with a lot of money invested in them take opportunities away from other players because of the money. (you want to get a return on your investment)

1 year?
If the 49ers could sign him to a 1 year deal, that would be great, but I don’t think Ellis will go for it. Not to mention, I don’t think he’ll want to sign with a team knowing he’s going to have to battle for a starting position. I’m pretty sure at least 1 team will offer him a multi year contract. Personally, I like Lawson. I think his problem is he’s never had a clearly defined role with the 49ers switching back and forth from 3-4 to 4-3. This year they’re going 3-4 full time and I think Lawson will have a breackout season.
3-4
Ellis stated he didn’t want to play in a 3-4 and preferred a 4-3. Why pay money for a guy that doesn’t want to be there? He started out as a 4-3 DE and was changed to 3-4 LB by Parcells but wants to get back DE in a 4-3. So end of debate. No Ellis.
Didn't know that
Thanks for bringing it up.
