What is Taking so long?
OKay call me stupid, and an idiot for not knowing how many other teams have signed their first round draft
pick but as i sit here with only a few weeks to go before training camp I realize we still have not signed Crabtree to a deal. So I pose the question again? What is taking so long? Are they at a difference of what it should be? And better yet can someone please let me know who else in the top 10 has not signed their picks as of yet. I do not want us to have a situation where a guy we all are waiting to see in action misses crucial practice time and preaseason games all because of a contract. Crabtree has state that he doesn't want any of that to be a problem and just wants to get signed so he can learn as much as possible. We obviously have the money available to sign him so seeing how we have not gives me some obvious concerns. So help a brother out and let me know what the deal is? And I pose another question....oh forget it I will just do a poll.

hey stupid
beloved my ass. crabtree ain’t done shit and already he is beloved. how is that? beloved by strippers maybe and people who think he will be the next Rice, but i ain’t buying the hype for one second. his college career was impressive. my buddy was at the game at texas when he went off, and he said crabtree was awesome. but this is the same friend who once licked the back of a sticky stamp.
As for the late signing of 1st rounders, that’s pretty common, i think. I am not sure why you are concerned. It’s not as if another team can swoop in and steal him from us, or perhaps they can, what do i know.
final thoughts on crabtree: I don’t like the pick, and the fact that he is recovering from a busted foot leaves me cringing. I mean feet are important for players the like, but i imagine for a receiver feet are pretty damn important, and why we decided to draft a reveiver with a busted foot leaves me scratching my balls, but maybe thats just the crabs. for a second there I almost got upset with the stupid comment until I read what I wrote….good job. But just so I’m clear I’m not worried about someone picking up crabtree I’m worried about him not getting the experience he needs to help us be a better team this year. If there is a postion that is arguably the hardest to learn(other than the qb position) it is wr. I want to see this young man in action and I don’t want to hear about contract issues.

just bustin your chops
i agree he needs the experience. however you would have to argue pretty Fooch’in hard to convince me that wr is the hardest position to learn other than qb:
toughest position to learn qb being number 1:
2. tight end
3. center
4. linebacker
5. runningback
6. deep snapper
7. punter
7. receiver

I hope to God that was a joke.

I think the main question should be
what’s the wait on the top 10 picks signing? how many have signed so far?
once we see the top five guys get contracts, the rest should follow. you can’t always sign a guy quickly, based on the draft slot from the year prior.
I think the 49ers have to wait until the Raiders pay DHB, to see what they should be offering Crab. I would hate to see the 49ers sign Crab to a contract, only to see DHB sign for a lower total. It’s unlikely to happen, mostly because the first guy drafted at the position sets the bar for the rest of the guys taken.

It's not at all unusual for first round picks to sign less than a week before training camp starts.

true
It’s not weird at all for that to happen. I guess I just don’t understand why the process takes so long. how many picks do we have yet to sign? Is Crabtree the only one left? Anyone out there besides me worried about that foot of crabtrees? Normally I wouldn’t after seeing Gore come back from knee injury in college to be a beast now. But from what I hear a slight fracture in the foot is a nagging injury. Almost the same injury to has sidelined my man Luol Deng of the chicago bulls.

I'm not worried about his foot injury
Worst case scenario, he misses some time. I don’t think its going to ruin his season or career. He may not produce huge numbers, but I doubt that will relate his foot injury. Crab is a tough individual, and will recover fully.
Let’s hope the O-Line can protect our QB and establish a running game. Then we can see what Crab can do for us.

It's just a waiting game.
Picks want more money, teams want to sign them for less, they have a standoff until either side caves in or they work something out that keeps both parties happy.
And I wouldn’t worry about the foot injury. If Crabtree is unsuccessful, it probably won’t be because of the foot. Jonathan Stewart (RB Carolina) had a similar injury before the 2008 draft but he was just fine by training camp and is one of the best young RBs in the game today.

well put Dre ,,
I myself would be ticked off if DHB was paid some million less than Crabtree even though Crabtree’s payment should be well over DHB’s due to his game play and achievements, but hey it’s a good bargain for us =P

according to ESPN
as of July 3rd, Matt Stafford and Mark Sanchez were the only first round picks to have signed contracts. i dont think the niners are behind at all.

I get it.....
We are going to trade Crabtree for Brandon Marshall lol j/k , hmm but I wonder if that would be a reasonable trade? =)

Marshall has issues. Crabtree may or may not. I'd stick with Crab.

Actually, Marshall has far more value.
Marshall is a proven borderline-elite receiver in his prime. Crabtree, while I think he’ll be great, is still an unproven rookie. He may have unbelievable potential, but potential is hard to quantify and obviously he may not reach all of it.

Or
He may exceed it.
You never know.

Yes.
Which is why an established great player is worth loads more than someone unproven.

Never said Marshall didn't have more or less value
Just think that it is better to go with the guy whom we don’t has issues then the guy who obviously does thats all.

so how many people think I was wrong now? 47 of you thought that he would sign by training camp…doesn’t seem to be the case now. Anyone want to change their vote?

training camp is still...
… almost a week away. With only two first round picks signed, it’s not that surprising. They’ll come in bunches. If Crabtree seriously wants to prove he isn’t some sort of diva, he’ll get to camp before it starts (not necessarily before rookies report).

It's early to panic ...
NFL rookie contracts are easy. The only issue is if Crabtree wants to claim that he should be paid more than Bey, because most people had him rated higher than Bey.
That’s rarely a winning argument for a player.
But what usually happens is that everybody waits to see where everybody else signs, and then they all sign at once.
There’s no reason to panic yet.
